Today’s stories in about a minute (2 Nov 2026).
The key insight: As we read it, the day’s coverage set Anthropic’s first full quarterly numbers next to the money markets around it: the amended S-1 puts third-quarter revenue at $17.0 billion with an operating loss of $567 million and approximately $895.4 billion of commitments, while Oracle, Alphabet and Meta lined up bond sales of at least about $36.7 billion where a size was reported, by our arithmetic.
Anthropic’s Amended S-1
Anthropic’s revenue was $17.0 billion for the three months ended 30 September 2026, up 1,127% from a year earlier, according to the amended Form S-1 it filed with the SEC on Monday, 2 November. The filing shows an operating loss of $567 million and a net loss of $23.3 billion; the $21.9 billion fair-value charge on its convertible notes, derivative liabilities and SAFEs is 94% of that net loss, by our arithmetic. Read: the results and the net loss.
By our count of SEC filings, Alphabet took 16 years from its founding to post a quarter of at least $16.9 billion, Meta 14, Amazon 17, Nvidia 30 and Microsoft 34; Anthropic, founded in 2021, got there in about five, by our arithmetic. Its nine-month operating loss was 3.8% of revenue, against 205% a year earlier, by our arithmetic. Read: five years and the operating loss. Our evergreen pages track Anthropic’s revenue and its compute costs.
The $895.4 billion is more than the $810.3 billion of fixed commitments Meta reports and less than Alphabet’s $1,076.8 billion, by our tally of each company’s latest SEC filing; counted only to 30 September, Anthropic’s figure is $788.6 billion. Anthropic expects about $69.8 billion of its compute and infrastructure commitments to fall due in the 12 months after 30 September, the filing says. Read: the commitments and what falls due.
The amended filing raises Anthropic’s minimum spend under its Google hosting agreement to approximately $121.3 billion through July 2033, from $114.5 billion a week earlier, and says Anthropic expects to pay SpaceX’s AI unit about $3.1 billion a month once all capacity arrives in December 2026. Its guarantees and cost reimbursements for data center developers carry maximum potential payments of up to $4.7 billion, against up to $0.8 billion at 30 June. The IPO and Its Price
Institutional investors who plan to buy shares in Anthropic’s IPO have told the company and its advisers that its valuation should be around $1.5 trillion to $1.6 trillion, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter; by our arithmetic that is 22 to 24 times its third-quarter revenue annualised. This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The State of The Inference Economy.
The analysis says: “Inference is a revenue engine: continuous, distributed across millions of applications and agents, incurring marginal cost with every query.”
As we read it, Anthropic’s filing puts numbers on that engine: compute and infrastructure fell from 172% of revenue to 57% between the two nine-month periods, by our arithmetic, while its commitments for compute run to approximately $895.4 billion. We do not say one caused the other. The analysis was published in March 2026 and does not discuss these filings.
