Greater China accounted for $18.001 billion of the $62.673 billion by which Apple’s revenue grew in fiscal 2026, or 29%, by our arithmetic from the fourth-quarter results Apple filed with the SEC on 2 November. The region was 15.5% of Apple’s revenue in fiscal 2025.
In the quarter ended 26 September, Greater China net sales rose 21% to $17.539 billion from $14.493 billion, the fastest growth among Apple’s five reporting regions, by our arithmetic. That was below an estimate of $18.55 billion cited by Wall St Engine, a markets account on X, which did not name the estimate’s source.
Business Pill · Concentration
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on concentration, when a few big pieces make the total. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Apple’s results.
The key insight: By our arithmetic, Greater China supplied $18.001 billion of Apple’s $62.673 billion revenue increase in fiscal 2026, or 29%, from a region that was 15.5% of revenue the year before; in the September quarter it supplied 25% of the increase.
Update, 2 Nov: Apple credits iPhone and Mac for Greater China growth. Apple said the 21% growth in Greater China was due to iPhone and Mac sales, CNBC reported in its live coverage of the results and call, a driver the release itself did not name. CNBC also wrote that investors wanted to hear from Ternus about the company’s plans in China after its AI software got approved. For the whole company, Apple guided December-quarter revenue up 7% to 10% (our piece).
What Apple Reported for Greater China
Apple’s total net sales for the September quarter were $114.477 billion, up 12% from $102.466 billion. By region, the Americas rose 10% to $48.680 billion, Europe 12% to $32.008 billion and Rest of Asia Pacific 15% to $9.710 billion, while Japan fell 1% to $6.540 billion, our arithmetic from the segment table.
For the full fiscal year, Greater China net sales were $82.378 billion, up 28% from $64.377 billion. That lifted the region’s share of Apple’s revenue to 17.2% from 15.5%, by our arithmetic. In fiscal 2024 the region had reported $66.952 billion, according to the release of a year ago, so fiscal 2026 was 23% above that level.
The release does not split Greater China by product. Kevan Parekh, Apple’s CFO, said in the release that the company’s “installed base of active devices reached a new all-time high across all major product categories and geographic segments”.

Update, 3 Nov: the other four regions. In the September quarter, Americas net sales were $48.680 billion against $44.192 billion a year earlier, up 10.2%; Europe $32.008 billion against $28.703 billion, up 11.5%; Rest of Asia Pacific $9.710 billion against $8.442 billion, up 15.0%; and Japan $6.540 billion against $6.636 billion, down 1.4%, the only one of Apple’s five regions whose sales shrank in the quarter, our arithmetic from Apple’s segment table. Of the quarter’s $12.011 billion revenue increase, the Americas supplied 37.4% and Europe 27.5%, our arithmetic.
For the full fiscal year, Americas net sales rose 11.1% to $198.083 billion from $178.353 billion, Europe 14.9% to $127.604 billion from $111.032 billion, Rest of Asia Pacific 18.3% to $39.861 billion from $33.696 billion and Japan 7.7% to $30.908 billion from $28.703 billion, against Greater China’s 28.0%. Of the $62.673 billion increase, the Americas supplied $19.730 billion (31.5%), Greater China $18.001 billion (28.7%), Europe $16.572 billion (26.4%), Rest of Asia Pacific $6.165 billion (9.8%) and Japan $2.205 billion (3.5%), our arithmetic. The Americas added the most dollars; Greater China’s share of the increase was the largest relative to its fiscal 2025 share of revenue (28.7% against 15.5%), our arithmetic.
Our arithmetic: growth = current period ÷ year-earlier period − 1; share of growth = a region’s dollar change ÷ the total change ($12.011 billion in the quarter, $62.673 billion in the year).
Nine Quarters of Greater China Sales
Apple’s last five quarterly releases give Greater China net sales for nine quarters. In fiscal 2025 the region reported $18.513 billion in the December quarter, $16.002 billion in March, $15.369 billion in June and $14.493 billion in September. The September 2025 figure was 3.6% below the $15.033 billion of a year earlier, the latest year-over-year decline in the series.
In fiscal 2026 the figures were $25.526 billion, $20.497 billion, $18.816 billion and $17.539 billion. Year-over-year growth was 37.9%, 28.1%, 22.4% and 21.0%, and the dollar gain over the same quarter a year earlier fell from $7.013 billion to $3.046 billion, our arithmetic.
Greater China was 15.3% of Apple’s revenue in the September 2026 quarter, against 14.1% a year earlier and 15.8% two years earlier, by our count. In the quarter, the region supplied $3.046 billion of Apple’s $12.011 billion revenue increase, or 25%.
What Outside Data Shows for the Same Months
IDC data reported by 9to5Mac on 13 October put Apple at 17.8% of smartphone shipments in China in the third calendar quarter of 2026, up from 15.8% a year earlier. In the same report, total shipments in China fell 15.4% and Apple’s own shipments fell 4.3% year over year.
IDC said Huawei’s shipments rose 17.3%, taking its share to 21.1% from 15.2%. On Apple, IDC wrote, in 9to5Mac’s translation: “Apple’s newly released iPhones received a better-than-expected market reception. However, shipments declined slightly year-over-year due to fewer models available this year.”
The two sets of numbers measure different things. IDC counts smartphone units shipped in China. Apple’s segment reports dollar revenue from every product and service sold in its Greater China region, for a quarter that runs July to September.
The Structural Read
As we read it, Greater China was the main source of Apple’s extra revenue in fiscal 2026 relative to its size: its 29% share of the year’s increase was almost twice its 15.5% share of fiscal 2025 revenue, by our arithmetic.
As we read it, the slowdown came from the fiscal 2026 quarters themselves: the year-earlier figures they are compared with fell each quarter, from $18.513 billion to $14.493 billion, yet the growth rate still came down from 37.9% to 21.0%.
As we read it, the release and the IDC data point in different directions for the same months, dollar revenue up 21% and estimated unit shipments down 4.3%, and neither source reconciles the two.

Three Implications
FOR INVESTORS IN THE IPHONE CYCLE Greater China net sales were $82.378 billion in fiscal 2026, up 28% from $64.377 billion, according to Apple’s release.
FOR RIVAL HANDSET MAKERS IDC put Huawei’s share of China smartphone shipments at 21.1% in the third quarter, against Apple’s 17.8%, according to 9to5Mac.
FOR COMPONENT SUPPLIERS IDC tied the fall in China’s smartphone market to rising component costs and retail prices, as reported by 9to5Mac.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Memory Chokepoint.
The framework puts it this way: “Memory is becoming the new compute”.
As we read it, that pressure now shows up in consumer devices too: IDC, as reported by 9to5Mac, tied China’s 15.4% smartphone market fall to rising component costs, while Apple’s regional revenue rose. The framework was published in December 2025 and does not discuss Apple’s results or phones.

What Is Not Established
The release does not say which products or services drove the region’s growth, and it gives no forecast for Greater China. It does not explain how dollar revenue in the region rose 21% in a quarter when IDC estimated Apple’s unit shipments in China fell; it gives no breakdown of the region by price, product or service.
Wall St Engine did not name who compiled the $18.55 billion estimate. Apple’s earnings call began at 2:00 p.m. Pacific time on 2 November; this piece is based on the release and does not report any remarks from the call.
The Bottom Line
Greater China grew faster than any other Apple region in the September quarter and supplied 29% of the company’s revenue growth for fiscal 2026, by our arithmetic. Its year-over-year growth rate was lower in each successive quarter of the year, from 37.9% to 21.0%, and the quarter’s $17.539 billion was below the estimate Wall St Engine cited.
