Every earlier security discipline faced one direction: each drew its wall where trust changed hands and pointed it at the outside. The book argues the danger now comes from both sides, because an estate full of AI systems is an estate full of credentialed actors that reason, coordinate and pursue goals.
It walks inward in five rings, from the outside world to the training loop at the center, and reduces the discipline to five moves: census, scope, separate, watch, rehearse.
Each agent carries an identity, a charter, a named owner and an expiry, or it does not run. An agent that no one owns is self-owned.
A permission enforced by the runtime cannot be argued out of the agent. An instruction can. Scope is narrow by default and every grant expires.
The monitor must read a channel the agent cannot forge, and its verdict must never feed the reward that trains the agent.
