Anthropic, founded in 2021, reported revenue of $16,956 million for the three months ended 30 September 2026, which its amended Form S-1 filed with the SEC on Monday, 2 November, rounds to $17.0 billion. By our count of SEC filings, Alphabet took 16 years from its founding to post a quarter of at least $16.9 billion, Meta 14, Amazon 17, Nvidia 30 and Microsoft 34.
Anthropic got there in about five, by our arithmetic. Its quarterly revenue rose from $376 million in the first quarter of 2025 to $16,956 million in the third quarter of 2026, about 45 times in six quarters.

The key insight: Anthropic’s amended S-1 puts its third-quarter 2026 revenue at $16,956 million, about five years after its 2021 founding; by our count of SEC filings, Meta took 14 years from founding to a quarter of that size, Google 16, Amazon 17, Nvidia 30 and Microsoft 34.
What the Filing Shows
The S-1/A says revenue grew “from $0 at commercial launch in the first quarter of 2023 to $17.0 billion for the three months ended September 30, 2026”. It says Anthropic was founded in 2021 and “launched our first commercial product, Claude, publicly in the first quarter of 2023”.
Its quarterly table lists revenue of $376 million, $787 million, $1,382 million and $2,040 million for the four quarters of 2025, then $4,731 million, $11,555 million and $16,956 million for the first three quarters of 2026. The third quarter of 2025 was the first above $1 billion, and the third quarter of 2026 was about 12 times that, by our arithmetic.
For full years, the filing gives revenue of $41 million in 2023, $386 million in 2024 and $4.6 billion in 2025. Revenue for the nine months to 30 September 2026 was $33.2 billion, which it says was growth of 1,206% on the same period a year earlier, and about 7.2 times all of 2025, by our arithmetic.

How Long the Others Took
We used each company’s quarterly revenue as reported in its 10-Q and 10-K filings, through the SEC’s XBRL data, and set the bar at $16.9 billion, just under Anthropic’s $16,956 million. Founding years are the ones each company gives in its own SEC filings. Years are the calendar-year difference, by our arithmetic.
Meta, incorporated in July 2004, first reached the bar in the fourth quarter of 2018 with $16,914 million, 14 years on. Google, incorporated in September 1998, first did it in the fourth quarter of 2014 with $18,103 million, 16 years on. Amazon, incorporated in 1994, did it in the fourth quarter of 2011 with $17,431 million, 17 years on.
Nvidia, incorporated in April 1993, first passed it in the quarter ended 29 October 2023 with $18,120 million, 30 years on. Microsoft, founded in 1975, first did it in the quarter ended 31 December 2009 with $19,022 million, 34 years on. The median of the five is 17 years, more than three times Anthropic’s five, by our arithmetic.

Connecting the Coverage
In January we wrote that Anthropic hit $1 billion of revenue in two years. On Saturday we compared OpenAI’s $1.25 trillion valuation target at 11 years with Meta’s 17 years to $1 trillion.
Today’s filing also showed a $567 million operating loss on the $17 billion quarter and compute costs falling to 58% of revenue from 148% a year earlier. On the demand side, OpenRouter’s token run rate has topped 10 quadrillion a year, and 72% of Anthropic’s revenue comes from the US.
The Structural Read
As we read the filing, the speed comes from the last three quarters: revenue went from $2,040 million in the fourth quarter of 2025 to $16,956 million in the third quarter of 2026, after reaching $1 billion a quarter for the first time in the third quarter of 2025.
As we read the comparison, it measures how fast Anthropic’s revenue scaled, not how much it earns: today’s filing also shows a $567 million operating loss for the same quarter, and the other five companies reached the bar in nominal dollars in different eras.

Three Implications
FOR IPO INVESTORS The S-1/A gives nine-month revenue of $33.2 billion, up 1,206% on a year earlier, and says it does not expect growth to continue at comparable rates.
FOR INCUMBENTS By our count of SEC filings, the fastest of the five large companies we checked, Meta, needed 14 years from founding to reach a quarter of at least $16.9 billion.
FOR AI SUPPLIERS Anthropic’s quarterly revenue rose about 45 times in six quarters, by our arithmetic, from $376 million in the first quarter of 2025.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map & The State of AI Hyperscalers.
The framework says: “The $1T capex cycle is being underwritten by a $1T concentrated demand commitment from two counterparties whose combined free cash flow is deeply negative.”
As we read it, Anthropic’s revenue path is the demand side of that commitment: its filing shows a $16,956 million quarter alongside a $567 million operating loss. The framework is the owner’s argument and does not discuss this filing.

What Is Not Established
The comparison uses nominal dollars and is not adjusted for inflation, so a $17 billion quarter in 2009 or 2011 was worth more in today’s money. The companies grew in different eras and markets, and their revenue is measured under their own accounting; Anthropic’s filing says it records some revenue on a gross basis where it acts as principal. The SEC’s XBRL data begin between 2007 and 2011, depending on the company.
Anthropic is not yet public, and its S-1/A says “We do not expect our revenue will continue to grow at comparable rates, and we cannot assure you that it will continue to grow at all”. The years-to-milestone figures, the 45 times, 12 times and 7.2 times multiples and the 17-year median are our arithmetic.
The Bottom Line
Anthropic’s amended S-1 puts its third-quarter revenue at $16,956 million, about five years after its founding and about 45 times its revenue six quarters earlier. In SEC filing data, Meta took 14 years from founding to a quarter that size, Google 16, Amazon 17, Nvidia 30 and Microsoft 34, though those figures are in nominal dollars and come from different eras.
