Elon Musk wrote on X on 25 October 2026 that Grok Bot “can now call someone or a business for you, make a request on your behalf, take notes on the response and send you a note summarizing the conversation.” The same day, TestingCatalog posted that “Voice calling functionality is gradually rolling out on Muse since yesterday,” Meta’s personal AI agent.
Muse already places calls to businesses. Reuters reported on 22 September 2026 that Meta had “publicly launched a phone-calling feature for Muse,” and that Meta had tested human contractors on some of those calls.
Business Pill · DISTRIBUTION ADVANTAGE
A 45-second Business Engineer explainer of distribution advantage: reach decides who gets tried, quality decides who gets kept. It teaches the general idea, not this story’s figures.
The key insight: As we read it, the two agents are converging on the phone from opposite sides: Muse has placed calls to US businesses since September and is now adding live voice talks with its user, while Musk says Grok Bot can now call a person or a business and report back.
What Changed This Weekend
Musk’s post quoted one by @alexmichaelio on Grok Bot 0.77, which describes calls where “your Bot can dial someone, sit on hold, press keys and get transferred while you watch a live transcript.” Those build details are that account’s description. Grok Bot is the agentic assistant SpaceX launched in August, as our earlier piece reported.
On the Meta side, the new feature is a voice conversation with Muse itself, not a call to a business. TestingCatalog wrote that “This feature enables realtime voice conversations with Muse agent.” It quoted Dave Gambrill, who posted on 24 October: “I just noticed voice call functionality popped up on @Muse for me.” Gambrill added: “I got no official notice that the feature was available and I’m not sure how it’s rolling out.”
A screenshot in TestingCatalog’s post shows the onboarding screen: “Give your Muse a voice, then say hello.” Another line on it reads: “Your mic stays active during your conversation. Mute or end it anytime.” TestingCatalog reported on 27 September that “Meta officially presented Muse Voice Mode at Connect as a way to have long conversations while the agent performs work in the background.”

What Was Posted on X
Elon Musk (@elonmusk) posted on 25 October 2026 that Grok Bot “can now call someone or a business for you, make a request on your behalf, take notes on the response and send you a note summarizing the conversation.” His post quotes @alexmichaelio’s notes on Grok Bot 0.77. This piece quotes Musk from it.
TestingCatalog (@testingcatalog) posted on 25 October 2026 that “Voice calling functionality is gradually rolling out on Muse since yesterday,” quoting a user, Dave Gambrill, who saw the feature appear on 24 October. This piece cites it for the Muse voice rollout, which Meta has not announced in the sources we read.
Muse Has Been Calling Since September
Reuters’ Katie Paul reported that with the phone-calling feature, a Muse user can tell the agent to “dial phone numbers for US businesses and talk with people on the other end” for errands such as booking haircuts or checking stock.
The same report said Meta had tested a “human concierge,” in which human contractors “quietly handle some of the phone calls placed via the digital agent,” according to internal posts seen by Reuters. A vice president in Meta’s Superintelligence Labs said the company had “rolled back this feature” for now, Reuters reported.
That vice president also noted that some tests showed human-placed calls could raise the success rate to the “95% to 98% range,” instead of the “lower percentage of AI calling,” according to Reuters. Asked about the human-concierge plan, Meta spokesperson Daniel Roberts told Reuters the company “will only roll it out when it’s ready and with the proper disclosures.”
Where the Agents Stand
| Agent | What the source says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Grok Bot calls | can call someone or a business, make a request, take notes and send a summary | Elon Musk on X, 25 Oct 2026 |
| Grok Bot users | 800,000 paid weekly users earlier in October, more than doubling over a month | Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX Q3 call, 20 Oct 2026 |
| Muse calls to businesses | a phone-calling feature launched publicly; dials US businesses | Reuters, 22 Sep 2026 |
| Muse voice conversations | gradually rolling out since 24 Oct | TestingCatalog and Dave Gambrill on X |
| Muse downloads | 10.2 million US downloads in its first 40 days, against 3.7 million for ChatGPT | Sensor Tower via TechCrunch, 20 Oct 2026 |
| Muse users | more than 10 million | Meta Q3 call via TechCrunch, 21 Oct 2026 |
| OpenAI dots | a team member recruiting to scale it to 1B users | Thibault Sottiaux on X, 24 Oct 2026 |
The 800,000 and 10.2 million figures measure different things, as our Grok Bot piece noted: one counts people paying in a given week, the other counts installs.
Connecting the Coverage
Our personal agent race piece covers OpenAI’s dots target, posted on 24 October, and Meta’s Muse figures from 20 and 21 October. Our Grok Bot phone apps piece covers Grok Bot gaining phone apps on 22 October and now carries Musk’s calls post. Our Muse Japan piece covers Muse’s launch in Japan.
Calls made by software in a person’s name also bring a fraud question. Our AI fraud piece covers AI-driven fraud aimed at banks and their customers. That piece is about criminals, not about either agent.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the Muse voice rollout is a user report, not an announcement: Gambrill wrote that the feature popped up without official notice, and TestingCatalog called the rollout gradual.
As we read it, Meta’s own tests set the bar for agent calls: Reuters reported a vice president saying human-placed calls could reach the 95% to 98% range, against a lower rate for AI calling.
As we read it, the scale behind each agent is measured differently: Sensor Tower counted 10.2 million US Muse downloads in 40 days, while SpaceX cited 800,000 paid weekly Grok Bot users.

Three Implications
FOR META Reuters reported that Meta rolled back its human-concierge test; asked about that plan, a spokesperson said Meta would roll it out only when ready and with the proper disclosures.
FOR SPACEX’S GROK BOT Musk’s post gives no scope or price for calls; the build details on holds, keypresses and live transcripts are @alexmichaelio’s description.
FOR BUSINESSES ON THE OTHER END Reuters described Muse calls to book haircuts, check stock and get quotes, the kind of calls a business now receives from software acting for a customer.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Agentic Harness War.
The analysis puts it this way: “With fewer than one in a hundred individual users on the agentic surface, the conversational interface still overwhelmingly owns the consumer base.”
As we read it, voice is another route onto that surface: Muse adds live voice talks with its user and Grok Bot adds outbound calls. The analysis was published in July 2026 and does not discuss Muse or Grok Bot.
What Is Not Established
Musk’s post gives no launch scope, price or region for calls. The Grok Bot 0.77 details are @alexmichaelio’s description, and we found no xAI or SpaceX changelog confirming them. In the sources we read, Meta has not announced the voice-call rollout that Gambrill and TestingCatalog describe, and we did not contact Meta or SpaceX. The 95% to 98% figure comes from Meta’s internal tests as reported by Reuters in September; Reuters gave no figure for AI-only calls.
The Bottom Line
On 25 October 2026 Elon Musk wrote that Grok Bot can now call a person or a business for its user and send back a summary. Meta’s Muse has placed calls to US businesses since September, according to Reuters, and users reported on 24 and 25 October that live voice conversations with Muse were rolling out.
