How the Numbers Fit

The four dollar losses in the chart measure different groups and must not be added: Nvidia is in both the 12-stock basket and the wealth of its chief executive, and SpaceX and Tesla are counted over two sessions, not one. The ten Asian companies are converted at exchange rates read at different times on 6 November.

Stocks, credit and private valuations moved on the same days: SpaceX’s default swaps reached a peak, CoreWeave’s 2032 notes traded at 76.42 cents, and one investor floated a $1 trillion valuation for Anthropic’s IPO, according to Techmeme’s summary of a Wall Street Journal report.

The Structural Read

As we read the twelve numbers, the selloff did not stay in one market: equities, credit spreads and a private IPO valuation all moved within two days.

As we read the overlap, the four dollar figures describe the same event from four angles, so each one is meaningful on its own, not as a sum.

Our ranking from Cboe’s daily closes

“That is the third-largest one-day percentage gain, behind 5 February 2018 (+115.6%) and 18 December 2024 (+74.0%).”

Three Implications

FOR INVESTORS All 25 tech stocks on a list The Kobeissi Letter posted on X closed in bear markets, with a median 45.0% below their highs.

FOR AI BORROWERS SpaceX’s default swaps and CoreWeave’s notes moved on the same days as the stocks.

FOR THE ANTHROPIC IPO One investor floated $1 trillion against $1.5 trillion, per the Journal via Techmeme.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map & The State of AI Hyperscalers.

The framework says: “It is a sovereign-scale financing problem dressed in tech-company clothing โ€” and the financial architecture is starting to invert.”

As we read it, these two days priced that financing problem in stocks, swaps and notes at once. The framework itself does not discuss these markets.

What Is Not Established

This piece adds no new reporting: every figure comes from our earlier pieces, which credit their own sources (Nasdaq, Cboe, KRX, TSE and TWSE closes, FINRA TRACE, Markit via Walter Bloomberg, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, and The Wall Street Journal via Techmeme). It does not explain why the stocks fell or forecast what they will do next, and the dollar figures are not additive.
