Pigment, a French AI company that competes with Microsoft’s Excel and PowerPoint, has raised $250 million in a funding round that values it at $2.3 billion, Bloomberg reported on 20 October 2026. The Scaleup Europe Fund led the round, with participation from Nvidia and World Innovation Lab, which Bloomberg describes as “a US and Japan-based fund,” as well as existing investors Iconiq, IVP and Meritech Capital.
Bloomberg says the company “also plans to add a few Asian investors to the round.” Below: who is in the round, what Pigment sells, how the raise compares with its last one, and what the reporting we read does not say.
Business Pill · SWITCHING COSTS
A short explainer on switching costs, why it is hard to move off a tool a team already relies on. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about any company in this story.
The key insight: As we read it, Pigment’s $250 million round, led by the Scaleup Europe Fund with Nvidia joining, puts a European finance-planning startup’s valuation at $2.3 billion, according to Bloomberg.
Who Is in the Round
Bloomberg reported that the financing was “set to be announced Tuesday,” 20 October, and called it a push “by a prominent European startup to take on an American technology giant.” The lead investor is the Scaleup Europe Fund; the other new backers named are Nvidia and World Innovation Lab.
Nvidia’s stake was already public. Bloomberg notes that Jensen Huang “announced its investment last week as part of a visit to France.” Tech.eu reported on 14 October that Nvidia was investing in four French startups, Doctolib, Entalpic, Genesis AI and Pigment, and that Nvidia “did not disclose the size of its investments, but according to Les Echos they are minority stakes.” Huang said the investments were meant to “kickstart the artificial intelligence revolution in Europe,” according to Tech.eu.

What Pigment Sells
TechCrunch described Pigment in April 2024 as “a flexible business planning tool that is used by chief financial officers and finance teams to create reports and budgets.” It plugs into a company’s data, which TechCrunch listed as “ERP, HRIS, data lakes, etc.,” and sales and HR teams use it too: sales for quotas, HR to plan headcount.
Its AI layer lets customers ask questions in plain language, according to TechCrunch, with examples such as “Can you give me a breakdown of revenue per country?” As we read it, Pigment sells the planning spreadsheet a finance team would otherwise build in Excel, with the company’s live data underneath and an AI assistant on top.
How the Raise Compares
Pigment’s previous round was a $145 million Series D in April 2024, led by existing investor Iconiq Growth, TechCrunch reported, with Sandberg Bernthal Venture Partners, IVP, Meritech, Greenoaks and Felix Capital also taking part. TechCrunch said that in 2023 the startup “managed to triple its revenue and double its customer base,” naming Unilever, Datadog, Kayak and Merck as clients.
The new round is $105 million larger than that one, our arithmetic from the two reported amounts. Pigment was co-founded by Elรฉonore Crespo, who previously worked at Index Ventures and Google, and Romain Niccoli, a co-founder and former CTO of Criteo, according to TechCrunch.
Connecting the Coverage
The round fits a run of Nvidia bets in Europe we have tracked this month. On 13 October we reported that NVIDIA would take an undisclosed stake in Doctolib, citing Reuters. Two days later we covered Nvidia’s planned stakes in five UK startups, announced on its own blog; in Paris on 13 October, Huang had said Nvidia would announce $2 billion of European investments within a week, The Next Web reported, citing Bloomberg.
Before that, we reported that OpenAI offered Hugging Face $100 million before Nvidia agreed to buy the France-founded platform in a deal Tech.eu values at about $12.9 billion. On the finance side, Pigment’s pitch sits next to another workflow we covered today: the Visa, BILL and Billtrust pilot that lets AI agents pay approved invoices end to end.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the product is the spreadsheet a finance team would otherwise keep by hand: TechCrunch described Pigment as “a flexible business planning tool that is used by chief financial officers and finance teams to create reports and budgets.”
As we read it, the value sits in the data underneath: TechCrunch reported that Pigment integrates with “ERP, HRIS, data lakes, etc.” and that, as more teams use it, “it becomes an important tool for cross-team collaboration.”
As we read it, Nvidia’s role is as one of several minority backers rather than the lead: Bloomberg names the Scaleup Europe Fund as lead investor, and Tech.eu, citing Les Echos, describes Nvidia’s French investments as minority stakes.

Three Implications
$250 MILLION AT $2.3 BILLION Bloomberg reported the round size and valuation on 20 October 2026.
UP FROM $145 MILLION Pigment’s April 2024 Series D was $145 million, led by Iconiq Growth, TechCrunch reported.
FOUR FRENCH STAKES Tech.eu reported on 14 October that Nvidia was investing in Doctolib, Entalpic, Genesis AI and Pigment.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework AI & The Great SaaS Bifurcation.
The framework puts it this way: software companies “must choose between racing to the commoditization floor or climbing to the embedding ceiling.”
As we read it, Pigment is pitching itself at the embedding end: TechCrunch described a planning platform wired into a company’s ERP, HR and data systems and used across finance, sales and HR teams. The framework was published in December 2025 and does not discuss Pigment, Nvidia or the Scaleup Europe Fund.
What Is Not Established
Bloomberg’s full report sits behind a paywall, and the parts we read do not give Pigment’s revenue, its customer count or its planned use of the funds. Neither Bloomberg’s readable text nor Tech.eu gives the size of Nvidia’s stake, and the Asian investors Pigment plans to add are not named. We did not see a company release and did not contact Pigment, Nvidia or the Scaleup Europe Fund.
The Bottom Line
Pigment has raised $250 million at a $2.3 billion valuation in a round led by the Scaleup Europe Fund, with Nvidia and World Innovation Lab joining, Bloomberg reported. As we read it, the money is a bet that the planning work finance teams still do in spreadsheets moves to software with AI built in, and Nvidia’s presence ties the round to its wider run of European stakes this month.

A note on sourcing. This piece is built on the readable opening of Bloomberg’s 20 October report (the rest is paywalled), Tech.eu’s 14 October report on Nvidia’s French investments, TechCrunch’s April 2024 report on Pigment’s Series D and our own earlier pieces. We did not see a Pigment release and did not contact Pigment, Nvidia or the Scaleup Europe Fund. The chart’s circles are sized from the two reported round amounts. Nothing here is investment advice.
