Upwind Security has secured $400 million in fresh financing that values the company at $3.8 billion, Bloomberg reported on 28 October 2026. Upwind said the same day that its $400 million Series C was led by Bessemer Venture Partners and brings its total funding to over $800 million.
TechCrunch reported in January 2026 that Upwind was worth $1.5 billion after its $250 million Series B. By our arithmetic, the $3.8 billion valuation is about 2.5 times that figure, reached in less than nine months.

Business Pill · Power Law
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on power laws, where a few outcomes take most of the value. It explains the general idea only and does not discuss Upwind.
The key insight: By our arithmetic, the $3.8 billion valuation Bloomberg reported is about 4.2 times the $900 million post-money valuation TechCrunch reported for Upwind’s Series A in December 2024.
The Round
In a post signed by co-founder and chief executive Amiram Shachar, Upwind said every existing investor took part: Greylock Partners, Cyberstarts, Craft, Salesforce Ventures, Alta Park, Picture Capital, Swish Ventures, Cerca Partners, TCV, Penny Jar and Leaders Fund. Canapi Ventures joined as a new investor.
“This additional capital will fuel our product and engineering growth in building the platform that will secure cloud & AI infrastructure for the world in the AI era,” Upwind wrote. Bloomberg described Upwind as a San Francisco-based startup offering cybersecurity for artificial intelligence and cloud applications, and said some details of the round were previously reported by Bloomberg News.

What Was Posted on X
Bloomberg posted that Upwind Security, a San Francisco-based startup offering cybersecurity for artificial intelligence and cloud applications, has secured $400 million in fresh financing that values the company at $3.8 billion.
From $900 Million to $3.8 Billion

TechCrunch reported in December 2024 that Upwind closed a $100 million Series A led by Craft Ventures at $900 million post-money, and that the company had then raised $180 million in total. Upwind announced its $250 million Series B on 26 January 2026, and TechCrunch reported that month that it was worth $1.5 billion.
By our arithmetic, $180 million plus the $250 million Series B and the $400 million Series C comes to about $830 million, in line with Upwind’s “over $800M”. The $3.8 billion valuation is about 4.2 times the Series A price.
What Upwind Says It Will Build
Upwind said it is building “AI Sensors for endpoints, Agents and Skills scanners” and reinventing its inventory graph. “It’s not about Code to Cloud anymore, it’s about Endpoint to Code to Cloud,” the post reads.
The company lists three agents it already runs for customers. A Blue Agent investigates across log sources to build a single attack story, a Red Agent tests whether exposures are exploitable, and a Green Agent finds fixes for security findings at scale. Upwind also named an AI Labs for Cybersecurity covering AI security, agentic security, frontier models, systems and benchmarks, and advanced AI systems.
The post says Upwind will expand to identity, data and AI.
Connecting the Coverage
The round follows a week of conflicting reports. As we covered in Datadog’s $4B Upwind Bid, at 80x Revenue, Is Disputed, The Information reported on 22 October that Datadog had offered nearly $4 billion for Upwind, while CTech reported that the offer was not made. The Information also reported that the offer would value Upwind at roughly 80 times its annual recurring revenue, and that Upwind was finalizing a $300 million round at roughly $3.8 billion.
On 23 October, Globes ran a report headlined “Upwind rejects $4b acquisition offer”. The round Upwind announced is $400 million, $100 million more than the round The Information described, at the same $3.8 billion valuation Bloomberg reported.
Earlier this month we tracked a $6.6B October push to secure AI agents, and the defensive side of the same shift in AI Turns Defender: Claude Proofs, OpenAI Bank Pact, $4B Bid. The risk side showed up this week when an ex-DOGE start-up said it got inside Anthropic in 12 hours.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the round is larger than the one The Information described a week earlier: Upwind announced $400 million, against a reported $300 million, at the same $3.8 billion valuation Bloomberg reported.
Upwind’s post names every existing investor as a participant, including Greylock Partners, Craft, Salesforce Ventures and TCV, and adds Canapi Ventures. TechCrunch reported that Craft Ventures led the December 2024 Series A.
By our arithmetic, the $180 million TechCrunch said Upwind had raised by its Series A, plus the $250 million Series B and the $400 million Series C, comes to about $830 million; Upwind says over $800 million.

Three Implications
FOR SECURITY BUYERS Upwind says it runs Blue, Red and Green agents for customers and will expand into identity, data and AI.
FOR ACQUIRERS The Information reported a nearly $4 billion Datadog offer for Upwind, which CTech disputes; Bloomberg puts the new round at a $3.8 billion valuation.
FOR INVESTORS Bessemer Venture Partners led the Series C, and Upwind says every existing investor participated.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework Inside Anthropic’s Permission Layer.
The framework describes a governance layer forming in the AI stack: “The governance layer sits at the intersection of capability, regulation, national security, access control, and geopolitical alignment.”
Upwind sells into the access-control side of that layer, with scanners it says it is building for agents and skills and sensors for endpoints. The framework was published in June 2026 and does not discuss Upwind.
What Is Not Established
Upwind’s own post does not state a valuation; the $3.8 billion figure is Bloomberg’s. Upwind did not give revenue or customer counts in the post. Whether Datadog made an offer remains disputed between The Information and CTech, and we did not read the Globes article beyond its headline.
The Bottom Line
Upwind raised a $400 million Series C led by Bessemer Venture Partners, bringing total funding to over $800 million. Bloomberg puts the valuation at $3.8 billion, about 2.5 times the $1.5 billion TechCrunch reported in January, by our arithmetic.

A note on sourcing. The round size, lead investor, participating investors and product plans come from Upwind’s own blog post of 28 October 2026. The $3.8 billion valuation is Bloomberg’s report of the same day; earlier valuations are TechCrunch’s reporting of December 2024 and January 2026. The Datadog offer and its revenue multiple are The Information’s reporting, as covered in our earlier piece; CTech disputed the offer.
