Fluidstack Round Pitched at $40B, 5.3x Its January Valuation

Bloomberg reported on 29 October that Leopold Aschenbrenner’s Situational Awareness is pitching clients to invest alongside it in a fundraising round that would value neocloud startup Fluidstack at $40 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Fluidstack’s own news page says it raised an $830M Series A at a $7.5B valuation in January, led by Situational Awareness. By our arithmetic, $40 billion is about 5.3 times that January valuation.

The key insight: By our arithmetic, the $40 billion valuation Bloomberg reports for the round Situational Awareness is pitching is about 5.3 times the $7.5B valuation of Fluidstack’s January Series A, which the same fund led.

What Bloomberg Reported

The report, by Dawn Lim, Hema Parmar, Todd Gillespie and Dina Bass, says Situational Awareness “is raising money from its investors to plow into neocloud startup Fluidstack Ltd., just three months after highly levered bets on artificial intelligence firms nearly led to the hedge fund’s implosion”.

It says the $40 billion valuation is “roughly double the valuation the startup fetched mere months ago”. We read only the opening two paragraphs; the round’s size and the other investors are not in that part of the article.

From $7.5 Billion in January to a $40 Billion Pitch

Fluidstack’s page says the January Series A was led by Situational Awareness, “with participation from world-leading investors”. By our arithmetic, $830 million is about 11% of $7.5 billion; the page does not say whether $7.5 billion is a pre-money or post-money figure.

Bloomberg puts the round in between at roughly half of $40 billion, which by our arithmetic is about $20 billion; it does not give that earlier figure in the paragraphs we read.

Where This Sits in the Neocloud Money Trail

Fluidstack sits among the neoclouds that rent GPU capacity to model makers. Our piece on Anthropic’s GPU cloud deals covered a Hut 8 lease with Fluidstack described in Hut 8’s annual report: 245 MW for 15 years at its River Bend campus in Louisiana, part of a partnership with Anthropic and Fluidstack, with a base contract value of about $7.0 billion and rent backstopped by Google for the base term.

Two other pieces this week cover how the build is being financed. Data center bond yields near 7% looked at the debt side, and Nscale’s IPO pitch at a reported $30 billion looked at a listed route. By our arithmetic, $40 billion is about 1.3 times the $30 billion target reported for Nscale.

The Structural Read

As we read the report, the fund is raising money from its own investors to put into Fluidstack, rather than Fluidstack announcing a round itself.

By our arithmetic, Bloomberg’s “roughly double” puts the valuation from the round in between at about $20 billion, a figure the paragraphs we read do not state.

As we read the coverage this week, the neocloud build is being financed through equity rounds like this one, data center bonds and listings such as Nscale’s planned IPO.

Three Implications

FOR INVESTORS By our arithmetic, $40 billion is about 1.3 times the $30 billion IPO target reported for Nscale.

FOR NEOCLOUD CUSTOMERS Our earlier coverage of a Hut 8 lease with Fluidstack described 245 MW for 15 years with a base contract value of about $7.0 billion.

FOR READERS TRACKING THE FUND Bloomberg says the pitch comes three months after the fund’s levered bets on AI firms nearly led to its implosion.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map.

The framework sets out to map the financing of AI: “How the money flows, where it cracks, what it buys, who can absorb it, and what happens when revenue can’t catch up.”

As we read it, Bloomberg’s report is about the “how the money flows” part: a fund pooling its own investors’ money into a single neocloud. The framework was published in May 2026 and does not discuss Fluidstack.

What Is Not Established

The round’s size, its other investors, its terms and whether it closes are not in the paragraphs we read. Fluidstack and Situational Awareness have not commented in what we read, and Bloomberg cites a person familiar with the matter. The multiples and percentages are our arithmetic from the figures above.

A note on sourcing. The valuation and the fund’s pitch come from the opening two paragraphs of Bloomberg’s 29 October 2026 report, read on 29 October 2026, which cites a person familiar with the matter; the Series A figures come from Fluidstack’s own news page.
