South Korea’s JNTC has been registered as a supplier of TGV (through-glass via) glass substrates to Nvidia, TheElec reported on Friday, citing the industry. JNTC is supplying the substrates as paid samples, not under a volume order, according to the report.
JNTC shares were up 7.1% at about 10:18 Seoul time on Friday while the KOSDAQ index was down 5.9%, a gap of about 13 points by our arithmetic on KRX prices via Naver Finance. Samsung Electronics was down 7.5% and SK hynix 10.1% at the same time.
Business Pill · GPUs Explained
A short explainer on GPUs, the chips that glass substrates and other packaging parts are built around. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss this story.
The key insight: As we read it, this is an early step in a supplier relationship, not an order: TheElec reports JNTC is on Nvidia’s purchasing supplier list and supplying paid samples, with no glass-substrate revenue booked yet and initial mass production planned from mid-2028. On Friday morning JNTC was up 7.1% while the KOSDAQ was down 5.9%, a gap of about 13 points by our arithmetic; the sources do not say what moved the shares.
What the Registration Means
JNTC was placed on Nvidia’s purchasing supplier list in October, about a month after first contact in September, according to TheElec. At Nvidia’s request, JNTC visited Nvidia’s headquarters to discuss product specifications and how to apply them to projects, the report said. TheElec called Nvidia JNTC’s second large US chip customer after Broadcom.
TheElec described supplier registration as the step that sets up a trading account and payment system so a customer can buy products for a fee from a supplier that has passed initial quality checks. Glass substrates usually start with 1 to 5 free units, the report said, then move to paid volume evaluation of several hundred to several thousand units per case, to test whether quality and yield hold in repeated production.
What JNTC Is Supplying
The Nvidia samples include a 2mm-thick TGV glass substrate that JNTC finished developing in June, according to TheElec. The report put the peel strength, a measure of how well copper bonds to the glass inside the holes, at about 0.8 kgf/mm, twice the 0.4 kgf/mm industry requirement it cited.
JNTC is developing glass substrates for Broadcom with Japan’s Toppan, TheElec reported, and has non-disclosure agreements with 30 substrate makers, assembly-and-test companies and chipmakers. About 10 of them have moved to paid samples, about one in three by our arithmetic.
The Money Behind It
JNTC has not yet booked glass-substrate revenue separately, TheElec reported. As sales of its main product, mobile cover glass, fell, it posted an operating loss of 78 billion won last year and 36.4 billion won in the first half of this year, according to the report.
JNTC plans to serve customer samples from a pilot line in Hwaseong until 2027, build a production line in Gimcheon from the second half of 2027 and supply initial mass-production volumes from mid-2028, TheElec reported. A company official told TheElec: “We cannot disclose matters related to customers”.
The move came on a second day of selling in Seoul chip stocks: the KOSPI was halted after an 8.6% plunge at the open, after 12 AI stocks lost $1.44 trillion in New York on Thursday. Our earlier pieces covered DRAM revenue and HBM prices.
Connecting the Coverage
On the same morning, the KOSPI was halted after an 8.6% plunge, a day after 12 AI stocks lost $1.44 trillion in New York. Our memory coverage set the supply backdrop: DRAM revenue rose 369% to nearly $200 billion and HBM prices were seen up 121%. What is new here: a Korean glass-substrate maker reported on Nvidia’s supplier list at the paid-sample stage, and its shares moving against the market.
The Structural Read
As we read TheElec’s description, supplier registration is the paperwork that lets a customer pay for samples after early quality checks; the volume stage, of several hundred to several thousand units per case, comes later.
As we read the numbers, about 10 of JNTC’s 30 NDA partners are at paid samples, about one in three by our arithmetic, and Nvidia is one name on that list as reported.
As we read the timeline, JNTC’s own plan puts initial mass production from mid-2028, so the report describes qualification, not revenue.

Three Implications
FOR JNTC TheElec reports a second large US chip customer after Broadcom, at the paid-sample stage, while its mobile cover-glass sales fall and it posts operating losses.
FOR NVIDIA’S SUPPLY CHAIN The report adds a Korean name to the glass-substrate supplier pool at the sample stage; it gives no order size, price or product use.
FOR READING THE REPORT It cites the industry; neither Nvidia nor JNTC confirmed it, and the share move is intraday.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Memory Chokepoint.
The framework says: “The AI race has a new bottleneck, and it’s not what most observers expect.”
As we read it, glass substrates sit in the same packaging layer the framework points to: the parts around the chip, not the chip itself. The framework does not discuss JNTC, glass substrates or this report.
What Is Not Established
The registration is reported by TheElec, citing the industry; neither Nvidia nor JNTC has confirmed it, and JNTC declined to discuss customers. A supplier registration with paid samples is not a volume order, and no order size, price or product use is reported. The peel-strength figure is as reported, not independently tested. The share move is an intraday reading, not a close, and the report does not say what investors were reacting to.
The Bottom Line
JNTC has been placed on Nvidia’s purchasing supplier list for TGV glass substrates and is supplying paid samples, according to TheElec, its second large US chip customer after Broadcom. It has no separate glass-substrate revenue yet and plans initial mass production from mid-2028. Its shares were up 7.1% on Friday morning while the KOSDAQ was down 5.9%.
