Bloomberg reported at 22:51 UTC on Wednesday, 4 November, that Alphabet’s Isomorphic Labs, the Google DeepMind spinout, is “in talks to raise roughly $5 billion in new funds”, according to people familiar with the matter. The round would value Isomorphic at about $50 billion, the people said, and “The financing hasn’t closed and details could change”.
By our arithmetic, $5 billion would be about 2.4 times the $2.1 billion Series B that Isomorphic announced on 12 May 2026, and about 8.3 times its first external round of $600 million in March 2025. The opening of Bloomberg’s report, which is the part we could read, carries no comment from Isomorphic or Alphabet.
Business Pill · Concentration
A short Business Engineer explainer on concentration: when a few big pieces make most of a total. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about Isomorphic Labs.
The key insight: By our arithmetic, the roughly $5 billion Bloomberg reports Isomorphic Labs is raising would be about 2.4 times its $2.1 billion Series B of May 2026; neither of its announced rounds came with a disclosed valuation.
What Bloomberg Reported
Bloomberg’s report, by Rebecca Torrence and Natasha Mascarenhas, says the money would support Isomorphic’s efforts to use artificial intelligence for drug discovery. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the information is not public.
The figure is the second valuation report in a month. On 7 October, Bloomberg reported that Isomorphic was in early talks to raise money at a valuation of at least $40 billion, and one person said the round could value the company at as much as $50 billion, according to Tech Funding News’ account of that report. Wednesday’s figure of about $50 billion is the top of that October range.

The Funding Ladder
Isomorphic’s own announcements give two external rounds, both led by Thrive Capital:
- 31 March 2025, $600 million. Isomorphic said this was its first external funding round, led by Thrive Capital, with participation from GV and follow-on capital from existing investor Alphabet.
- 12 May 2026, $2.1 billion Series B. Led by Thrive Capital, with existing backers Alphabet and GV and new investors MGX, Temasek, CapitalG and the UK Sovereign AI Fund, according to the company’s release.
- 4 November 2026, about $5 billion, in talks. Reported by Bloomberg at a valuation of about $50 billion; not closed.
Neither release states a valuation; we searched both texts for one. Tech Funding News wrote that when Isomorphic raised $2.1 billion in May, it did not say what the round valued the company at. That is why we compare the size of the raises, not valuations: no source we read gives a post-money figure for May, so we do not compute a valuation step-up.
By our arithmetic, the two announced rounds total $2.7 billion, and a $5 billion round would be about 1.85 times everything Isomorphic has raised externally so far. If it closed at that size, external funding would reach about $7.7 billion.
In the May release, Demis Hassabis, Isomorphic’s founder and chief executive, said: “Now that we have shown our approach is fundamentally sound, our focus is on scaling our technology to its full potential.” Ruth Porat, President and Chief Investment Officer of Alphabet and Google, said the funding “will be used to accelerate the work and bring important interventions to market with greater speed.”
What Alphabet’s Filings Say
Alphabet’s annual report for 2025, filed on 5 February 2026, names Isomorphic once, in a passage on moonshots: “Isomorphic Labs is reimagining the drug discovery process from first principles, applying AI to accelerate the development of new medicines.”
We searched the text of Alphabet’s quarterly reports filed on 23 July and 29 October 2026 and found no mention of Isomorphic, and the SEC’s full-text search returned only the annual report. The filings we read give no figure for Alphabet’s stake in Isomorphic or for the value Alphabet carries it at.
Against the Rest of the Round Ladder
On 4 November we counted eight healthcare AI rounds of $20 million or more announced since 1 October, totalling $332.5 million. By our arithmetic, a $5 billion Isomorphic round would be about 15 times that total on its own.
It would also be larger than the fal round Bloomberg reported on 3 November, $1.3 billion at a $16 billion valuation, and about half of the roughly $10 billion Sequoia Capital said on 4 November that it had raised in new funds.
Frontier labs appear in the same field by other routes in our recent coverage. Anthropic, which sells Claude to research labs, published a research post from its biology research lab on 4 November, and in our 4 November tracker the two labs’ own health and life-science deals were acquisitions, neither with a published price.
The Business Lever
The business lever in this story is capital. As reported, the round would bring in nearly twice what Isomorphic has raised externally to date, for a company whose May release describes partnered programs and wholly-owned internal programs, not a product sold per seat or per token.
Isomorphic’s May release lists strategic partnerships with Novartis, Lilly and Johnson & Johnson and says the new capital would fund its drug design engine, its pipeline and hiring. As we read the two releases, both rounds were raised to scale the engine, not to fund a product on sale.

The Structural Read
As we read the two releases, each Isomorphic round has been more than twice the size of the one before: $600 million, then $2.1 billion, and now, as reported, about $5 billion.
As we read Bloomberg’s two reports, the valuation conversation moved from at least $40 billion in October to about $50 billion in November, while the round is still not closed.
As we read Alphabet’s filings, the company does not break out Isomorphic in its quarterly reports, so the rounds are the only public price signals we found.
Demis Hassabis, Isomorphic Labs release, 12 May 2026
“Now that we have shown our approach is fundamentally sound, our focus is on scaling our technology to its full potential.”
Three Implications
FOR AI INVESTORS The talks, as reported, would put a $50 billion figure on a company whose own releases have never stated a valuation.
FOR ALPHABET SHAREHOLDERS Alphabet’s 2025 annual report names Isomorphic once, and its 2026 quarterly reports we searched do not name it.
FOR THE AI ROUND LADDER At about $5 billion, the reported raise is about 15 times the $332.5 million we tracked across eight healthcare AI rounds since 1 October, by our arithmetic.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Four Intelligence Moats.
The framework puts it this way: “The transformer is a commodity now; what changes between paradigms is where intelligence accumulates and who can capture it.”
As we read it, the Isomorphic talks are a price on that question: Isomorphic’s May release says its approach puts proprietary AI and data at the core, and the money, as reported, goes to a lab that keeps both in-house. The framework does not discuss Isomorphic or drug discovery.
What Is Not Established
The round has not closed, and Bloomberg’s sources said details could change. The size, the valuation, the investors and the terms are as reported by Bloomberg from unnamed people and are not confirmed by Isomorphic or Alphabet in the sources we read.
No source we read gives Isomorphic’s valuation in May 2026 or March 2025, its revenue, or Alphabet’s ownership share. The multiples in this piece, 2.4 times, 8.3 times, 1.85 times and 15 times, are our arithmetic from reported round sizes and compare money raised, not company value.
The Bottom Line
Bloomberg reports that Isomorphic Labs is in talks to raise about $5 billion at about $50 billion, the top of the range reported in October. By our arithmetic, that raise would be about 2.4 times the $2.1 billion Series B of May 2026 and about 1.85 times the $2.7 billion Isomorphic has announced in external funding to date; the company has disclosed no valuation for either earlier round.

A note on sourcing. The talks are as reported by Bloomberg from people familiar with the matter; the round has not closed. Round sizes and investors are from Isomorphic Labs’ releases of 31 March 2025 and 12 May 2026. The October valuation range is as relayed by Tech Funding News.
