Eight healthcare AI companies announced funding rounds of $20 million or more between 1 October and 3 November 2026 that we could tie to a company release or a news report, and by our arithmetic they total $332.5 million. A fund of a frontier AI lab is named in one of them: the OpenAI Startup Fund invested in Coherence Neuro’s $45 million seed round, WIRED reported, without giving the size of OpenAI’s stake.
Anthropic is not named as an investor in any of the eight rounds in the sources we read. The two labs’ own health and life-science deals in the same weeks were acquisitions, and neither came with a published price.
Business Pill · Concentration
A short Business Engineer explainer on concentration: when a few big pieces make most of a total. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about the companies in this piece.
The key insight: By our arithmetic, the eight healthcare AI rounds of $20 million or more we could source from 1 October to 3 November 2026 total $332.5 million; the OpenAI Startup Fund is named in one, and the labs’ own health deals in the period came without published prices.
Why the $3.7 Billion Piece Travelled
Our 3 November piece on Menlo Ventures’ report carried two hooks: healthcare AI at $3.7 billion of enterprise spend, up 2.5x, and a line naming the labs. Menlo wrote: “This year, biology emerged the next frontier, as Anthropic, OpenAI, Isomorphic Labs and Chai Discovery invested heavily in AI for research and drug discovery”.
The report did not say how much Anthropic or OpenAI invested. This follow-up asks the money question in a narrower, checkable form: who wrote the largest healthcare AI checks in the last five weeks, and where do the labs appear?

The Eight Rounds
Each row is a round we could source, ranked by size, with the investors as reported. Menlo’s $3.7 billion is an estimate of annual spend, not funding, so we do not compare the two.
- Suki, $90 million Series E. New investors Healthier Capital, Crosslink Capital and Hercules Capital joined existing investors, Healthcare Dive reported on 13 October. The AI scribe company plans agents for tasks such as referrals and prior authorizations.
- Scarlet, $50 million Series B, led by Headline, tech.eu reported on 12 October. Scarlet certifies AI and software medical devices.
- Coherence Neuro, $45 million seed. WIRED reported on 21 October that the OpenAI Startup Fund and Founders Fund are investing; it named no lead and no valuation.
- Healthleap, $38 million in seed and Series A funding: an $8 million seed co-led by Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital and a $30 million Series A led by Hummingbird Ventures, TechCrunch reported on 7 October.
- Vitalize, $31 million Series A, led by Oak HC/FT, announced in a 6 October release, according to PYMNTS. Built In reported that its platform uses AI to automate hospital staff scheduling.
- nPhase, $30 million Series D, led by Viking Global Investors, the company said on 2 November.
- Vera Health, $28.5 million Series A, led by Threshold Ventures and announced on 27 October, Journal du Net reported.
- Midstream Health, $20 million Series A, led by Valtruis, Digital Health News reported on 3 November.
By our arithmetic the eight rounds total $332.5 million, with a median of $34.5 million. Suki’s round alone is about 27% of the total, and Coherence’s $45 million is about 13.5%.
Who Wrote the Checks
In the sources we read, the lead or named investors are venture and growth firms: Headline, Sequoia Capital, First Round Capital, Hummingbird Ventures, Oak HC/FT, Viking Global Investors, Threshold Ventures and Valtruis among them. Healthcare buyers appear too, with CommonSpirit Ventures in Midstream’s round and Optum Ventures, part of UnitedHealth Group, in Vera’s, according to Journal du Net.
Big Tech money shows up twice. Journal du Net reported that Gradient, “an AI-focused seed fund launched by Google”, also contributed to Vera Health’s round, and WIRED named the OpenAI Startup Fund in Coherence’s. By our count, that is one round of eight with a frontier lab’s fund named as an investor.
Suki’s chief executive gave a reason for the size of its round. Healthcare Dive reported that Punit Soni said raising mega rounds of $100 million or more could create unreasonably high expectations, and that Suki has raised more than $250 million across five rounds.
What the Labs Bought
The labs’ own moves in the window were purchases, not venture rounds. OpenAI acquired Orchestra Bio, a platform that helps biopharma teams coordinate drug development, and confirmed the deal in a post on 20 October; Axios reported that financial terms were not disclosed.
Anthropic said on 27 October that it has acquired Mithril Medicine, a one-person company developing treatments for two rare forms of muscular dystrophy, and that it runs research partnerships with six drug developers. Anthropic’s case study says Mithril was acquired in July. The post gives no price for Mithril; we searched its text for a dollar figure and found none.
That leaves one disclosed dollar figure tied to a lab in these five weeks: the $45 million total of a round in which OpenAI’s fund is one of two named investors.
The Business Lever
The lever here is subscribers. This page is a running, dated tracker of healthcare AI rounds of $20 million or more, with investors as reported, and it is updated as new rounds are announced.
As we read the tracker, the largest checks in healthcare AI this autumn are coming from venture and growth funds and from the investment arms of health-industry companies, while the labs’ own disclosed health moves are acquisitions without prices.

The Structural Read
As we read the tracker, the money behind healthcare AI this autumn is mostly venture and growth capital, with insurer and health-system investment arms in some rounds, rather than lab balance sheets.
As we read Menlo’s line on the labs, it describes where they put research effort; the deals we could find show the labs buying companies, Orchestra Bio and Mithril Medicine, rather than leading rounds.
As we read Suki’s plan, the round funds deeper ties with the partners that already embed its tools, such as athenahealth and Zoom, more than new partners.

Three Implications
FOR HEALTHCARE AI FOUNDERS In the rounds we could source, leads were venture and growth firms such as Headline, Hummingbird Ventures, Oak HC/FT, Threshold Ventures and Valtruis.
FOR READERS OF MENLO’S REPORT Its $3.7 billion is an estimate of annual spend; the $332.5 million here is funding, and the two do not measure the same thing.
FOR THE TRACKER Each row links to a report or release; the total and shares are our arithmetic and cover only rounds we could source.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Embedding Business Model.
The framework puts it this way: “In the embedding era, value comes from what the software connects to.”
As we read it, the largest round in this tracker fits that description: Healthcare Dive reported that Suki will use its $90 million to deepen work with the more than 30 health technology companies that embed its tools. The framework does not discuss Suki or healthcare funding.
What Is Not Established
The tracker is not a complete list. It covers rounds of $20 million or more announced from 1 October to 3 November 2026 that we could tie to a release or a report we read in full, for companies whose coverage describes the product chiefly as AI.
We did not count General Medicine’s $120 million Series B, led by Andreessen Horowitz and reported on 8 October, because the company describes a healthcare marketplace in which an AI chat interface is one of three ways in. Counting it would raise the total to $452.5 million, by our arithmetic. Tandem Health’s $100 million Series B was announced on 14 September, before the window.
WIRED did not give the size of OpenAI’s investment in Coherence, and the sources we read give valuations for none of the eight companies. The total and every share are our arithmetic from reported round sizes. We did not contact the companies or investors named.
The Bottom Line
By our count, eight healthcare AI rounds of $20 million or more were announced between 1 October and 3 November 2026, totalling $332.5 million. OpenAI’s venture fund is named in one, Coherence Neuro’s $45 million seed, and Anthropic is named in none of the eight sources we read; the labs’ own health deals in the period, OpenAI’s Orchestra Bio and Anthropic’s Mithril Medicine, came without published prices.

A note on sourcing. Round sizes, investors and dates come from the companies’ releases and from reports by Healthcare Dive, tech.eu, WIRED, TechCrunch, Built In, PYMNTS, Journal du Net and Digital Health News; the labs’ deals come from OpenAI’s and Anthropic’s own posts and from Axios as cited in our earlier coverage. The tracker covers only rounds we could source; the total and shares are our arithmetic. We did not contact the companies or investors named.
