Clinical data software company nPhase, Inc. has closed a $30 million Series D round led by Viking Global Investors, the company said in a release on Business Wire on Monday, 2 November. nPhase says it is the company’s first equity capital raise since 2017.
That is about nine years without new equity, by our count from the release. nPhase did not disclose a valuation or name other investors.
The key insight: nPhase says it closed a $30 million Series D led by Viking Global Investors, its first equity raise since 2017, or about nine years without new equity by our count, to expand its clinical data platform and agentic AI features.
What the Money Is For
nPhase says the investment will scale its enterprise clinical data business and accelerate its Statistical Computing Environment (SCE), Unified Data Management System (UDMS) and agentic AI capabilities across the clinical data lifecycle. Its customers are pharmaceutical sponsors and contract research organisations, according to the release.
The round follows the launch of the company’s nPhase.ai platform, which the release says unifies UDMS and SCE to connect the clinical data lifecycle from study startup through regulatory submission. The release says that journey can take months today and require navigating numerous disconnected systems and manual handoffs.
nPhase also runs REDCap Cloud EDC, which the release says serves small and mid-size sponsors, nonprofit and academic research organisations, MedTech studies and real-world data programs.

What the Investor and CEO Said
Levi Malik, a principal at Viking Global Investors, said: “nPhase combines something rare in the AI market: an established foundation in clinical research, deep understanding of regulatory requirements, and a clear vision for enterprise-scale AI”. Viking manages more than $54 billion across public and private investments, according to the release.
Scott Climes, chief executive of nPhase, said: “We’ve built the unified, governed data foundation that makes AI possible across the clinical data lifecycle”.

Connecting the Coverage
The round lands on the same day Tempus lifted its 2026 revenue guidance and reported its data unit up 33%, and after Hex said it rebuilt its data platform for AI agents and raised $100 million. As we read it, all three are pitched on owning governed data that AI agents can work on.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the release pitches nPhase less as an AI model company than as the governed data layer that AI tools in drug development would run on.
As we read the timing, the round comes about eight weeks after the company launched nPhase.ai, according to the dated launch release, so the money follows the product rather than preceding it.

Three Implications
FOR DRUG DEVELOPERS nPhase says the clinical data journey from study startup to regulatory submission can take months across disconnected systems and manual handoffs today.
FOR INVESTORS Viking Global, which manages more than $54 billion, led the round; nPhase did not name other investors or a valuation.
FOR SMALLER SPONSORS nPhase also runs REDCap Cloud EDC for small and mid-size sponsors, academic research groups and MedTech studies, the release says.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework Enterprise AI: From Software to Substrate.
The framework reads: “Salesforce isn’t a CRM; it’s a data layer other systems depend on.”
As we read it, nPhase is pitching the same position in clinical research: the data layer other AI tools depend on. The framework is the owner’s argument and does not discuss nPhase.
