The Structural Read
Seagate said the vast majority of its Data Center nearline supply is allocated through calendar 2028, and Maeil Business Newspaper reported that Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance have asked Samsung Electronics and SK hynix for server memory contracts, some running ten years.
The Korea Herald traces the phone strain to chipmakers directing production capacity toward server DRAM and high-bandwidth memory for AI data centers, and Amazon’s planning document, as Business Insider reported it, said rising memory costs were “putting pressure” on its devices business.
As we read it, the financing coverage sat beside the suppliers: Anthropic’s S-1 puts its unstarted lease obligations at about $321.4 billion at 30 June 2026, and US investment-grade bond sales reached $1.76 trillion for the year, Bloomberg News reported.

Three Implications
MEMORY AND STORAGE SUPPLIERS Seagate said the vast majority of its Data Center nearline supply is allocated through calendar 2028, with some cloud supply agreements extending through 2030.
PHONE AND DEVICE MAKERS ETNews reported that Samsung is cutting fourth-quarter Galaxy A production by about 20% from plan after steep rises in memory chip prices.
CHIP-EQUIPMENT MAKERS ASM International said it projects 2027 revenue of more than €5.7 billion at constant currencies, which it says reaches its 2030 target three years ahead of plan.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Memory Chokepoint.
The analysis says: “Memory is becoming the new compute. HBM growth is outpacing accelerator demand, making memory the rate-limiting factor in the AI scaling equation.”
As we read it, the day’s coverage shows that constraint from the suppliers’ side, in Seagate’s and Teradyne’s quarters, and from the buyers’ side, in the reported phone cuts. We do not say one caused the other. The analysis was published in December 2025 and does not discuss these companies’ results.
What Is Not Established
This roundup adds no new reporting and selects from the day’s coverage. Every figure above is taken from the linked FourWeekMBA piece, each built from its own primary source. The five threads are our grouping, not a finding.
We do not claim that these stories are connected or that one caused another. The growth rates in our chart are different measures, from total revenue to a single segment, and are not like-for-like. The Samsung and Apple order cuts, the Chinese memory contracts and the Solidigm talks rest on reports citing sources. Anthropic’s S-1 is a preliminary filing. OpenAI’s and Axiom’s results are the companies’ own claims.
The Bottom Line
Teradyne reported revenue up 70%, Seagate Data Center revenue up 63% and ASM a 2027 projection of more than €5.7 billion on 27 October, while reports said Samsung and Apple are cutting phone component orders as memory prices rise.
Anthropic’s S-1 puts its unstarted lease obligations at about $321.4 billion at 30 June 2026. The Business Engineer’s analysis of memory as AI’s chokepoint reads the supply side: read the analysis.
