Google DeepMind announced Genie 4, its new world model, on 27 October 2026. “Genie 4 is our first real-time world model to generate audio natively,” the company wrote, adding that it “introduces interactive dialogue that adapts on the fly.”
Genie 4 has been released as a research preview to trusted testers, Google DeepMind said, and is coming soon to Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and early access partners in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.
Short explainer · Genie 4

Business Pill · Multimodal
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on multimodal AI. It teaches the general idea and says nothing about Google, Genie 4 or world models.
The key insight: As we read it, the post puts Gemini inside the simulation loop: Google DeepMind says Gemini 3.8 Flash plans each step, reviews incoming frames and adapts the plan while Genie 4 renders the world, and that the pairing lets it test how AI systems navigate different environments before bringing them to the real world.
What Google Says Genie 4 Does
Google DeepMind describes Genie 4 as natively multimodal, “enabling audio-like music, ambient noises, and interactive dialogue to be simultaneously generated with the world.” Users steer the scene with standard keyboard controls for navigation and camera control, and with text prompts, according to the post.
With natural language, users can modify a simulation in real time, “like changing the weather, moving the camera, or introducing a new person or object,” the company wrote. It says Genie 4 simulates physics scenarios such as aerodynamics and collisions, and that its most dramatic leap is how it simulates people.

What Was Posted on X
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis wrote on X that Genie 4 brings together real-time physics, reasoning and audio, adding: ‘Simulations within simulations, makes you wonder just how deep the rabbit hole goes.’
Gemini in the Loop
Google DeepMind says Genie 4 builds on the Gemini family: Gemini Omni anchors the simulations in real-world appearance and behavior, while other Gemini models provide the reasoning that keeps a simulation coherent.
In real time, the company wrote, “Gemini 3.8 Flash serves as a guiding agent in the loop”: it observes the scene, breaks goals into steps and reviews incoming frames to check that each step succeeded. Google DeepMind also says it has been experimenting with Gemini 4 Argon and Genie 4 for Gemini Robotics, including a simulation of Apptronik’s Apollo humanoid playing checkers.
Who Is Testing It
Google DeepMind says it has worked with cohorts of trusted testers across creative industries, journalism, education, gaming and engineering. It lists uses such as a “draft mode” for pre-visualization, turning a single archival photograph into a simulation, game prototyping, and rapid “zero-to-one” scenario generation for enterprise partners.
Update, 27 Oct: the robot-brain model goes to enterprises. The same day, Google said Gemini Robotics ER 2 is now available in public preview on the Gemini platform, bringing Google DeepMind’s embodied-reasoning model to enterprise production environments.
Google says the model reasons over continuous video feeds to check whether a robot’s step succeeded, and pinpoints the exact video frame of a critical event with 91.3% accuracy and a 0.96-second mean absolute frame distance. It says one model can orchestrate stationary arms, wheeled rovers and quadrupeds, and that developers can simulate in MuJoCo-Warp and NVIDIA Isaac Sim before touching hardware.
Google quoted Boston Dynamics, DeepReach, Arm and A*STAR’s Institute of Materials Research and Engineering among early users. Access is a preview via Model Garden; Google’s post gives no list price in its text.
Connecting the Coverage
In August 2025 we covered Google Genie 3, the world model that learns physics by dreaming. Earlier today we reported that Google says Gemini agents built a 1-year roadmap in 5 hours, and on 25 October we covered UBS mapping 87 humanoid robot players. What’s new: Google DeepMind says Genie 4 adds native audio and interactive dialogue, and that Gemini 3.8 Flash plans and checks each step while the world renders.
The Structural Read
As we read it, sound is the headline change: Google DeepMind calls Genie 4 its first real-time world model to generate audio natively, with ambient sound for every world and interactive dialogue that adapts on the fly.
As we read it, robotics is one stated use: Google DeepMind says Gemini 4 Argon and Genie 4 simulated Apptronik’s Apollo humanoid playing checkers, and describes the pairing as a way to test how AI systems navigate environments before the real world.
As we read it, access is narrow for now: Google DeepMind says Genie 4 is a research preview for trusted testers, coming to Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and early access partners in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.

“Understanding and simulating the world is a crucial aspect of building AGI.”
Three Implications
FOR CREATORS Google DeepMind says filmmakers can step into a live simulation of a scene and run multiple takes in real time, adjusting camera angles, lighting, dialogue and action.
FOR ROBOTICS TEAMS Google DeepMind says Genie 4 can help develop training environments for robots and agents, and that it has been experimenting with Gemini 4 Argon and Gemini Robotics.
FOR ENTERPRISES Google DeepMind says enterprise partners are evaluating Genie 4 for rapid “zero-to-one” scenario generation and identifying gaps to improve it.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Product Overhang Doctrine.
The framework argues: “In any product cycle, there are two curves to follow. The first is what your underlying technology can do. The second is what your users can actually do with it.”
As we read it, Genie 4 sits on the first curve for now: Google DeepMind calls it an early, experimental model in research preview, ahead of release to subscribers and developers. The framework does not discuss Genie 4 or world models.
What Is Not Established
The post does not give resolution, frame rate, session length, pricing or a date for wider access, as we read it. Google DeepMind calls Genie 4 “an early, experimental model” and says visual details and object permanence “can still shift or drift over time.” The examples are Google’s own recordings.
The Bottom Line
Google DeepMind announced Genie 4 on 27 October 2026 and calls it its first real-time world model to generate audio natively, with interactive dialogue. It is a research preview for trusted testers, coming to Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and early access partners in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio, the company said. All Genie 4 video and audio will carry SynthID, Google DeepMind said.
