Teradyne reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $1,306 million on 27 October, up 70% from $769 million a year earlier and above the high end of its guidance.
CEO Greg Smith said “Demand extended across the AI value chain, from memory and hard disk drive test to high-speed interconnect and robotics”.
The chip-test maker’s release headline says it had record revenue in Memory and Integrated Systems Test “driven by all things AI”, and it guided fourth-quarter revenue to $1,250 million to $1,350 million.

Business Pill · Operating leverage explained
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on operating leverage, why profit can grow faster than sales. It explains the general idea and does not discuss Teradyne.
The key insight: As we read it, Teradyne’s quarter shows profit growing faster than sales: revenue rose 70% from a year earlier while GAAP income from operations was about 2.8 times the year-earlier figure, by our arithmetic.
Where the $1,306 Million Came From
Teradyne said $1,072 million of the quarter’s revenue was in Semiconductor Test, $138 million in Product Test and $96 million in Robotics.
The release headline says Robotics delivered its highest third-quarter revenue to date and achieved profitability. By our arithmetic, Semiconductor Test was about 82% of the total.
Revenue was slightly below the second quarter’s $1,329 million, according to the release’s own comparison table.

Profit Grew Faster Than Sales

GAAP income from operations was $402.0 million, against $145.3 million in the third quarter of 2025. By our arithmetic that is about 2.8 times the year-earlier figure.
GAAP gross margin was 59.1%, against 58.4% a year earlier and 59.8% in the second quarter. Net income attributable to Teradyne was $342.4 million, or $2.17 per diluted share; on a non-GAAP basis it was $359.9 million, or $2.29 per share, against $0.85 a year earlier.
Engineering and development spending rose to $163.1 million from $124.8 million a year earlier, according to the statement of operations.
The Fourth-Quarter Guide

For the fourth quarter, Teradyne guided revenue of $1,250 million to $1,350 million, with GAAP earnings of $1.88 to $2.18 per diluted share and non-GAAP earnings of $1.95 to $2.25.
CEO Greg Smith said: “With multiple growth engines across test and robotics, we approach 2027 with a more diversified business and an expanding set of opportunities.” The company called its approach a “wafer to data center strategy”.
Connecting the Coverage
Earlier today we reported that ASM sees 2027 revenue over €5.7B after a record quarter, as deposition-tool demand rises with leading-edge and HBM capacity.
On memory, we reported that Apple, Samsung reportedly cut orders as memory costs soar, and that SK Hynix’s Solidigm floats a $45B US plant for a China upgrade. On 21 October we reported that Lam revenue jumps 54% to a record $8.2B on AI chip demand.
The Structural Read
As we read it, Semiconductor Test carries the quarter: Teradyne says $1,072 million of the $1,306 million came from that segment, about 82% by our arithmetic.
As we read it, Teradyne locates the AI demand in test rather than in chips it makes: its CEO lists memory and hard disk drive test, high-speed interconnect and robotics.
As we read it, the fourth-quarter guide of $1,250 million to $1,350 million brackets the third quarter’s $1,306 million rather than stepping above it.

Three Implications
FOR CHIP-EQUIPMENT WATCHERS Teradyne’s revenue was up 70% on the year, and its release says Memory and Integrated Systems Test revenue was a record.
FOR MEMORY AND STORAGE BUYERS Teradyne’s CEO names memory and hard disk drive test among the places AI demand reached in the quarter.
FOR ROBOTICS WATCHERS Teradyne says Robotics, at $96 million of revenue, had its highest third quarter to date and achieved profitability.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Memory Chokepoint.
The framework puts it this way: “HBM growth is outpacing accelerator demand, making memory the rate-limiting factor in the AI scaling equation.”
As we read it, Teradyne sells the testers that check memory and other chips before they ship, and its release names record revenue in Memory and Integrated Systems Test. The framework was written before these results and does not discuss Teradyne.
What Is Not Established
Teradyne’s release ties demand to AI in words but does not give a figure for AI-related revenue, and it does not split Semiconductor Test revenue by end market.
The results are as reported by the company. The release says a conference call to discuss the results follows on 28 October at 8:30 a.m. ET.
The Bottom Line
Teradyne’s third-quarter revenue of $1,306 million was up 70% on the year, and its GAAP operating income of $402.0 million was about 2.8 times the year-earlier figure, by our arithmetic.
