Global venture investment in AI neoclouds has reached $6.6 billion across 58 deals so far in 2026, according to PitchBook data reported by Morningstar on 27 October. Morningstar wrote that this is more money and more deals than any prior year, and 51% above last year’s total of $4.4 billion.
Morningstar set the record against Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s remarks to CNBC on 22 October: “The demand of the capital is much greater than the availability of the capital.” A neocloud, in Morningstar’s definition, is a company that sells remote access to GPUs for AI workloads.

A 16:9 video explainer narrated from the published text of this piece and four related FourWeekMBA pieces.
The key insight: As we read it, venture money into neoclouds hit a record in PitchBook’s count while Huang, a seller to and investor in some of the same companies, told CNBC that capital is still the missing piece.
What PitchBook’s Data Shows
Morningstar reported that “Venture investors have never invested more in AI neocloud companies, according to PitchBook data.” The $6.6 billion covers 58 deals in 2026 so far, against $4.4 billion for all of 2025.
Morningstar named two of the year’s rounds. London-based Nscale raised a $2 billion Series C in March at a $14.6 billion valuation, which Morningstar described as nearly a third of 2026’s AI neocloud total. Together AI raised an $800 million Series C in July at an $8.3 billion valuation, up from $3.3 billion in February 2025.
Together, those two rounds come to $2.8 billion, about 42% of the year’s $6.6 billion by our arithmetic, leaving about $3.8 billion across the other 56 deals.

What Huang Said

Huang spoke to CNBC’s Arjun Kharpal on the sidelines of Nvidia’s GTC conference in Berlin on 22 October. “If you look at the fundamentals, the demand for the neo clouds is off the charts,” Huang said.
“What is missing in the middle is the working capital to fuel that growth… because there’s just so much demand across so many sectors of AI, there’s a scarcity of capital,” Huang told CNBC. He added: “That’s going to get solved.”
Debt Does Much of the Work
Morningstar wrote that much of the sector is being funded by VC mega-rounds and borrowing to bankroll chips. Nscale, it reported, also secured a $1.4 billion debt facility in February backed by its GPUs, and filed to go public in September.
“Working capital could be debt,” David Yakobovitch, general partner at DataPower Capital, an investor in Nscale and Together AI, told Morningstar. “It doesn’t necessarily mean equity.”
Morningstar noted that Nvidia is among the investors in Nscale and Together AI and also sells the GPUs the neoclouds raise money to buy. “Jensen has a lot of skin in the game,” Yakobovitch said.
Where Public Markets Stand
Morningstar wrote that shares of CoreWeave and Nebius have slid on worries that the spending will take too long to pay off. CNBC reported on 22 October that Nebius was down 3.6% and CoreWeave 4% in premarket trading that day.
Yakobovitch told Morningstar he expects a wave of consolidation, particularly among neoclouds that don’t own their infrastructure. Yakobovitch named the incumbents Meta, Google, Amazon and Microsoft as the likely buyers, saying they “will buy some of these neoclouds” and adding: “It’ll be at big discounts, though.”
Connecting the Coverage
On 26 October we reported that neocloud stocks split after Musk’s warning as their bonds hit lows, and that SpaceX’s $40B GPU deal is a 5-year Apollo finance lease, a single lease about six times this year’s neocloud venture total by our arithmetic, though a lease and venture equity are different instruments.
Earlier today we reported that Nvidia B200 rent jumped 30% in two weeks to $9.70 an hour on Ornn’s index, and that traders can now bet 10x on Nvidia GPU rents through Injective’s new perpetual futures. On 20 October we reported that HSBC sees CoreWeave at $39 as Goldman says buy at $106.
The Structural Read
As we read it, two named rounds, Nscale’s $2 billion and Together AI’s $800 million, make up about 42% of the year’s $6.6 billion by our arithmetic, so the record rests heavily on a few large raises.
As we read it, the venture total is only one channel: Morningstar wrote that much of the sector is funded by mega-rounds and borrowing to bankroll chips, and Yakobovitch told Morningstar that working capital “could be debt”.
As we read it, the record sits beside falling public valuations: Morningstar wrote that CoreWeave and Nebius shares have slid on worries that the spending will take too long to pay off.

Three Implications
FOR FOUNDERS Morningstar reported that Nscale paired its $2 billion Series C with a $1.4 billion debt facility secured by its GPUs, and filed to go public in September.
FOR INVESTORS Yakobovitch told Morningstar he expects consolidation among neoclouds that don’t own their infrastructure, with incumbents buying “at big discounts”.
FOR NVIDIA Morningstar noted that Nvidia invests in Nscale and Together AI and also sells them the GPUs they raise money to buy.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Supercycle.
The framework describes the AI economy as a layered industrial stack, in which “the binding constraint sits at a different layer than it did six months ago”.
As we read it, Huang’s remark points at the capital layer: on his account the demand for neoclouds is there, and the money to fund their growth is what is scarce. The framework was published before this data and does not discuss PitchBook’s figures.
What Is Not Established
The $6.6 billion is venture investment as counted by PitchBook; it does not include the borrowing that Morningstar says funds much of the AI neocloud sector, and Morningstar did not give PitchBook’s full deal list. Huang’s remarks were made on 22 October, before Morningstar’s report, and do not refer to PitchBook’s figures.
The Bottom Line
PitchBook counts a record $6.6 billion of venture money into neoclouds this year, two rounds make up about 42% of it, and Huang told CNBC that the demand for capital is still greater than the supply.

A note on sourcing. The venture figures are PitchBook data as reported by Morningstar (Jacob Robbins, a PitchBook technology reporter) on 27 October 2026; we did not access PitchBook directly. Huang’s quotes are from CNBC’s report of his 22 October interview at Nvidia’s GTC conference in Berlin. The 42% share, the ~$3.8 billion for other deals and the six-times comparison with SpaceX’s lease are our arithmetic. This is not investment advice.
