Why Google’s revenue per employee keeps rising

Headcount has barely moved since 2023 (182,502.0 at the end of 2023, 183,323.0 at the end of 2024, 190,820.0 at the end of 2025), while revenue grew from $307.4B to $402.8B. After the 2023 layoffs Alphabet kept hiring tight and let the business scale.

By June 2026 headcount had risen to 198,933.0. Even so, quarterly revenue of $119.8B works out to more than $2 million a year per employee at an annualised rate.

Revenue per employee says nothing about pay or profit per person, but it does show operating leverage: software and ads scale without proportional hiring. See Google employees and Apple vs Google headcount.
