Claude Code Web Visits Rose About 12x in Year Before 3 Exits

Monthly visits to claude.ai/code, the web home of Claude Code, rose from about 0.9 million in October 2025 to about 11.2 million in September 2026, according to Similarweb estimates in a chart the web analytics firm posted on X on 4 November. That is about 12x in a year, by our arithmetic from values we read off the chart. The series ends in September, weeks before three people who worked on Claude Code announced between 24 October and 3 November that they had left Anthropic.

Similarweb’s post said: “Claude Code has grown significantly over the past year”. As of 08:40 UTC on 4 November, none of the sources we checked named a successor to Cat Wu, whose X profile reads “claude code + cowork @anthropicai”.

Business Pill · The Model and the Harness

A short Business Engineer explainer on the difference between an AI model and the harness around it. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about the people in this piece.

The key insight: Similarweb estimates that monthly visits to claude.ai/code rose from about 0.9 million in October 2025 to about 11.2 million in September 2026, about 12x by our arithmetic from its chart; the series ends before three people who worked on Claude Code announced their exits between 24 October and 3 November.

What Similarweb Posted

The chart is titled “Claude Code Website Traffic Over the Past 12 Months”. It plots one line, labelled “claude.ai (claude.ai/code) – Visits”, for “All Traffic | Worldwide”, one point a month from October 2025 to September 2026.

Similarweb did not publish the monthly numbers in the post, so the values in this piece are our reading of the line against the chart’s one-million gridlines and are approximate. Read that way, visits were about 2.7 million in January 2026, about 5.6 million in March, about 6.7 million in June and about 8.7 million in August, before the jump to about 11.2 million in September.

What Was Posted on X

Similarweb posted this at 08:20 UTC on 4 November 2026 with a chart titled “Claude Code Website Traffic Over the Past 12 Months”, plotting monthly visits to claude.ai/code from October 2025 to September 2026. Every claude.ai/code traffic figure in this piece is our reading of that chart, so the values are approximate. It matters because Anthropic’s S-1/A gives no Claude Code user or revenue figure.

Two days earlier, on 2 November 2026 at 08:58 UTC, Similarweb posted its estimates for visits to Claude’s upgrade page: 18.6 million in May and June, 16.8 million in July, 14.7 million in August and 17.6 million in September. It is a different page from claude.ai/code, and we cite it only as context.

The Shape of the Curve

The rise was not a straight line. The one clear monthly fall on the chart came between November and December 2025, from about 2.7 million to about 1.6 million visits, and April to May 2026 was about flat.

Most of the gain came in 2026. By our arithmetic from the chart-read values, September’s visits were about double March’s and about two-thirds higher than June’s.

Because the October 2025 starting point is small, the multiple is sensitive to how the chart is read: a reading between 0.85 million and 0.95 million gives between about 11.8x and 13.2x, by our arithmetic.

What the Traffic Measures

The series counts website visits to claude.ai/code. Similarweb’s chart does not show use of Claude Code in a terminal or a code editor, and it says nothing about revenue or paying users.

Similarweb has published other Claude traffic data this week. On 2 November it posted that “Worldwide traffic to Claude’s upgrade page rebounded in September, nearly returning to its May and June levels”, with 18.6 million visits in May, 18.6 million in June, 16.8 million in July, 14.7 million in August and 17.6 million in September.

Anthropic’s S-1/A gives no revenue, run-rate, user count or price for Claude Code. It says “The adoption of Claude Code began with individual software developers who noticed the potential of autonomous coding agents before enterprise procurement teams had considered the category,” and calls prosumers “a powerful top-of-funnel engine”. As we read it, web visits are one visible trace of that developer-first funnel, not a measure of the business behind it.

The Team Side

By our count, three of the four named Anthropic exits we could source from 5 September to 3 November 2026 came from Claude Code. Thariq Shihipar and Anthony Morris, whose X profile says Morris “created claude code on desktop”, posted on 24 October that they had left. Wu wrote on 3 November: “Friday was my last day at Anthropic”. Business Insider reported that Anthropic confirmed Wu’s departure.

Business Insider described Wu as “the head of product for Claude Code” and wrote that Wu “served as one of the two top leaders and evangelists for the technology alongside its original creator, Boris Cherny.” Business Insider named no successor. No source we read describes the moves as a reorganization.

We read the X timelines of Boris Cherny, Wu, Alex Albert, Anthropic, Claude, ClaudeDevs, Lydia Hallie and Shihipar on the morning of 4 November and found no post after 22:00 UTC on 3 November about Claude Code leadership. Web searches over the same window found no report naming new Claude Code or Cowork leadership.

Anthropic is still hiring around the product. By our count, 79 of the 681 open listings on its careers board on 4 November name Claude Code, and 20 of the 26 Claude Code listings posted in the previous 30 days sit in Sales or Applied AI.

Why the Timing Matters

The traffic series and the exits do not overlap. Similarweb’s last point is September 2026; the three Claude Code exits were announced on 24 October and 3 November. The chart therefore shows the product’s web traffic in the year before the departures and cannot show any effect of them.

What it does show is the scale of the product the departing staff worked on. Wu wrote: “Helping build Claude Code into an industry-defining product has been the journey of a lifetime”.

The Business Lever

The lever here is paid subscribers. For readers who follow Anthropic’s business model, Claude Code’s web traffic is one outside measure of the developer funnel the S-1/A describes, while the filing keeps the product’s revenue inside the company-wide totals.

Connecting the Coverage

Our reporting on Claude Code and its team this week:

The Structural Read

As we read the chart, the product’s public web traffic kept rising through September 2026, with most of the gain in 2026 and the steepest single step in the last month shown.

As we read the timing, the traffic data and the departures describe different periods: the chart covers the year up to September, and the exits came in late October and early November.

As we read our own reporting next to Similarweb’s, the open questions are about people, not demand: who leads Claude Code and Cowork product work after Wu has not been named in any source we checked.

Similarweb, on X, 4 November 2026

“Claude Code has grown significantly over the past year”

Three Implications

FOR IPO READERS The S-1/A gives no Claude Code revenue or user figure, so outside estimates such as Similarweb’s web traffic are among the few product-level numbers in public.

FOR CLAUDE CODE CUSTOMERS No source we checked has named who leads Claude Code or Cowork product work after Wu; Business Insider named no successor.

FOR RIVALS IN AI CODING Similarweb’s series measures website visits only, so it does not show how many developers use Claude Code in a terminal or editor.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Agentic Harness War.

The framework puts it this way: “Claude Code is named as the leading indicator — the surface where the future autonomy curve is already visible.”

As we read it, Similarweb’s chart is one outside trace of that surface’s reach: visits to claude.ai/code rose about 12x in the year to September 2026, by our arithmetic from the chart. The framework was published in July 2026 and does not discuss Similarweb’s data or the departures.

What Is Not Established

All monthly values are read from Similarweb’s chart and are approximate; Similarweb did not publish the numbers in its post. Similarweb’s figures are its own estimates, and we did not verify them independently.

The series covers website visits only. It does not measure terminal or editor use, active users, paying customers or revenue. We do not know who leads Claude Code or Cowork product work after Wu, or why Wu, Shihipar and Morris left; Wu’s post gives no reason. We did not contact Anthropic or Similarweb.

The Bottom Line

Similarweb estimates that monthly visits to claude.ai/code rose from about 0.9 million in October 2025 to about 11.2 million in September 2026, about 12x by our arithmetic from its chart. The series ends before the 24 October to 3 November exits of three people who worked on Claude Code, and as of the morning of 4 November no source we checked named a successor to Wu.
