Oracle filed four layoff notices with Washington and California covering 800 jobs, all permanent layoffs taking effect on 13 November 2026, according to the two states’ WARN databases. Washington lists 359 workers in Seattle. California lists 279 in Redwood City, 99 in Santa Clara and 63 in Pleasanton.
All four notices are dated 14 September 2026. The notices surfaced on X on 7 November, a week before the effective date. They do not give a reason for the cuts.
Business Pill · Concentration Explained
A short explainer on concentration. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Oracle or these notices.
The key insight: By our arithmetic, the four notices add up to 800 permanent layoffs effective 13 November, about 0.6% of the 141,000 full-time employees Oracle reported on 31 May, and they were filed on 14 September, before this week’s Oracle news.
What the Four Notices Say
Washington’s Employment Security Department lists one Oracle America, Inc. notice in this round: 359 workers in Seattle, a permanent layoff, not a closure, received on 14 September 2026, with a layoff start date of 13 November 2026 (Washington WARN database).
California’s Employment Development Department lists three Oracle notices, each dated 14 September, processed on 15 September and effective on 13 November, and each marked “Layoff Permanent” (California WARN report).
The California notices cover 279 workers at 500 Oracle Parkway in Redwood City, 99 at 4230 Leonard Stocking Drive in Santa Clara, and 63 at Oracle’s Pleasanton campus at 5815 Owens Drive, filed under the name Oracle Pleasanton Campus.
WARN laws require larger employers to give advance notice of mass layoffs. The notices list headcounts, sites and dates. They do not state why the jobs are being cut, and we found no Oracle statement about them in what we read.

Our Numbers
By our arithmetic, the four notices add up to 800 jobs: 441 in California, or 55.1%, and 359 in Washington, or 44.9%. Redwood City is the largest single site, at 279, or 34.9% of the total.
Oracle’s annual report says that as of 31 May 2026 it employed approximately 141,000 full-time employees, about 49,000 of them in the US (Oracle 10-K). By our arithmetic, 800 is about 0.6% of that total and about 1.6% of its US headcount. The notices may not count only full-time staff, so these shares are approximate.
This is not Oracle’s first Washington notice this year. The state’s database also lists a notice received on 31 March 2026 covering 475 workers in “Seattle and Remote”, effective 1 June 2026. By our arithmetic, Oracle’s two 2026 Washington notices total 834 workers.
The Week Around the Notices
The notices land in a week of Oracle news we have covered. Bloomberg reported on 6 November that Microsoft is winding down a deal to rent AI computing capacity from Oracle; see our piece on the Microsoft report. The WARN notices were filed on 14 September, more than seven weeks before that report, and nothing in them links the two.
On 4 November the Financial Times reported that Oracle had cancelled a $7 billion AI chip lease with Tencent. Our June piece on Oracle’s earlier layoffs covers its wider job cuts.
Connecting the Coverage
These notices are the public record of the cuts. Our Microsoft and Tencent pieces cover Oracle’s AI cloud contracts. The two sets of facts sit side by side here; we do not draw a causal link between them.
The Structural Read
As we read the notices, the cuts are concentrated in two metro areas: 359 in Seattle and 441 across three Bay Area sites, with Redwood City the largest single site at 279.
As we read Washington’s database, the Seattle notice is Oracle’s second there this year, after 475 workers in “Seattle and Remote” in a notice received on 31 March, a 2026 total of 834 by our arithmetic.
As we read the dates, the notices predate Bloomberg’s 6 November report on Microsoft and Oracle by more than seven weeks, so they say nothing about that report.
Oracle, Form 10-K for the year ended 31 May 2026
“As of May 31, 2026, we employed approximately 141,000 full-time employees”
Three Implications
FOR ORACLE EMPLOYEES AT THE FOUR SITES The state notices list 13 November 2026 as the effective date for all four layoffs, each marked permanent.
FOR READERS SIZING THE CUTS By our arithmetic, 800 is about 0.6% of Oracle’s full-time workforce and about 1.6% of its US headcount, using the 10-K’s 31 May figures.
FOR READING THE TIMING The notices were dated 14 September, and they give no reason, so they cannot be tied to the Microsoft report or the Tencent cancellation the FT reported.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map.
The framework sets out to map the financing of AI: “How the money flows, where it cracks, what it buys, who can absorb it, and what happens when revenue can’t catch up.”
The framework does not discuss Oracle’s workforce or these notices.
What Is Not Established
The notices do not say why Oracle is cutting these jobs, which teams are affected, or whether some workers will be offered other roles. They cover only Washington and California, so they may not be Oracle’s full count of cuts for this round. Our percentage shares use Oracle’s 31 May headcount, which may have changed since.
The Bottom Line
Four state notices show Oracle cutting 800 jobs in Seattle, Redwood City, Santa Clara and Pleasanton, effective 13 November. By our arithmetic, that is about 0.6% of its full-time workforce. The notices were filed in September and give no reason.

A note on sourcing. The layoff figures, dates and sites come from the Washington Employment Security Department and California Employment Development Department WARN databases, read on 7 November 2026; headcount comes from Oracle’s Form 10-K for the year ended 31 May 2026. The 800 total, state split and percentage shares are our arithmetic. The notices do not state a reason for the cuts.
