Groq Said to Seek $8B Valuation, 2.5x Its August Mark

Groq’s executive chairman, Alex Davis, has reached out to “his investors” for a new Series B round at an $8 billion valuation, not including the money raised, according to documents seen by Bloomberg News, which reported the bid on Friday, 6 November. Bloomberg said Groq was most recently valued at $3.15 billion in August, not including the $350 million raised in that round.

By our arithmetic, $8 billion is about 2.5 times the $3.15 billion August mark, and about 2.3 times the roughly $3.5 billion that mark comes to once the $350 million is added. Bloomberg described the effort as a bid to double the valuation in about three months.

Business Pill · Financial Conditions Explained

A short explainer on financial conditions. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss this story.

The key insight: As we read Bloomberg’s report, Groq’s Series B ask of $8 billion is about 2.5 times its $3.15 billion August valuation, by our arithmetic, in a week when six listed AI cloud operators fell 20.9% on average.

What Bloomberg Reported

Bloomberg’s article, by Sridhar Natarajan and Natasha Mascarenhas, opens: “A top executive at data center operator Groq has kicked off an audacious bid to double its valuation in about three months while slamming rivals in the space for being too reliant on debt markets”.

Bloomberg calls Groq “the Nvidia Corp.-backed company” and says it is “formerly a chipmaker”. The part of the article we could read does not say how much the Series B would raise, who would lead it, or which rivals Davis criticised.

Groq valuation in $ billion. The August pre-money figure ($3.15 billion), the $350 million raised and the $8 billion Series B ask are as reported by Bloomberg News on 6 November 2026; $3.5 billion and the 2.5x multiple are our arithmetic.

What Groq Said in August

Groq’s own release of 17 August, announcing the $350 million round as a Series A, says the company “today operates 13 data centers across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific” and “expects to scale from 54 megawatts to 200+ megawatts in 2027”. By our arithmetic, 200 megawatts is about 3.7 times 54.

In the same release Davis said: “We are building Groq into the world’s leading AI inference cloud”. The release also says the round “is subject to customary closing conditions”. Groq’s newsroom lists a $650 million raise on 22 June and the $350 million Series A on 17 August; together that is $1 billion of announced funding since June, by our arithmetic.

The Listed Comparison

The ask comes in a week when listed AI cloud operators fell. In our basket of six listed operators, CoreWeave, Nebius, IREN, Applied Digital, Cipher Mining and TeraWulf lost an average of 20.9% from the 30 October close to the 5 November close, by our arithmetic, while the S&P 500 fell 3.0%.

One of the six, TeraWulf, reported net income of $709.5 million for the third quarter while its operations lost $88.2 million, according to its 10-Q. Groq is private, so no market price or filed accounts are available to set against the $8 billion figure.

Who Is Asking

Davis also runs Disruptive, the Dallas investment firm. Alex Heath’s Sources newsletter reported on 3 November that Davis “recently raised $10 billion and plans to invest it in about 10 companies, with checks of up to $1 billion each”, as we reported. Groq’s August release describes him as Groq Executive Chairman and CEO of Disruptive.

Connecting the Coverage

We covered Groq’s turn to running an inference cloud after Nvidia’s $20 billion deal for Groq’s technology and its June raise, the listed side in the six-name neocloud scorecard, and Davis’s fund in the $10 billion Disruptive raise.

The Structural Read

As we read the figures, the ask is about 2.5 times the August pre-money mark, or about 2.3 times once the $350 million raised in August is added, by our arithmetic.

As we read Groq’s own August release, the company described 13 data centers and a plan to go from 54 megawatts to 200+ megawatts in 2027, about 3.7 times, by our arithmetic.

As we read the comparison, Groq has no public share price, so its private ask and the listed operators’ closing prices measure different things.

Three Implications

FOR THE PRIVATE MARK Bloomberg reported an $8 billion ask against a $3.15 billion August valuation, both not including money raised.

FOR THE LISTED COMPARISON Six listed AI cloud operators fell 20.9% on average from the 30 October close to the 5 November close, by our arithmetic.

FOR THE CAPACITY PLAN Groq said in August that it expects to scale from 54 megawatts to 200+ megawatts in 2027.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map.

The analysis says: “It is a sovereign-scale financing problem dressed in tech-company clothing — and the financial architecture is starting to invert.”

As we read it, a private valuation ask sits on the financing side of that map. The analysis does not discuss Groq or this round.

What Is Not Established

We read only the opening paragraphs of Bloomberg’s article. The round size, lead investors, terms and timing are not established here, nor is whether investors will accept the $8 billion figure. Groq’s newsroom listed no Series B announcement when we checked at 23:45 UTC on 6 November. We make no claim that the listed operators’ share moves and Groq’s ask are related.
