Claude Launches Personal Finance via Plaid, From $17 a Month

Anthropic announced Personal Finance in Claude on 5 November 2026, a US beta that connects users’ bank and card accounts through Plaid with read-only access. Its announcement says it is rolling out on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans; Claude’s pricing page lists Pro, the cheapest of the three, at $17 a month with the annual discount, or $20 billed monthly.

The launch came 18 days after TestingCatalog reported the feature in preparation on 18 October, by our arithmetic. The Free plan is not among the plans Anthropic names.

Business Pill · The Model and the Harness

A short Business Engineer explainer on the difference between an AI model and the harness around it. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about Anthropic or this launch.

The key insight: Anthropic’s Personal Finance connects Claude to users’ bank and card accounts through Plaid with read-only access, in a US beta on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans; Pro is listed at $17 a month with the annual discount, and the launch came 18 days after TestingCatalog reported it in preparation, by our arithmetic.

What Anthropic Says Personal Finance Does

Anthropic’s announcement says users “can securely connect your bank and card accounts and ask in your own words”, and that “Access is read-only, and Personal Finance can’t move, manage, or invest your money.” Claude’s launch post on X says the same: “Claude can’t move, manage, or invest your money.”

In the announcement’s worked example, a user asks “Where did my money go this month?” and Claude sorts the month’s spending by category: “that comes to $4,309.37, with more than half going to rent and utilities and $1,024.51 to food and drink.” After follow-up questions, Claude lists four payments due before payday and what will be left: “$1,393.22.”

The post says Claude can point to “charges that hit twice, unexpected fees, or a bill that’s crept up all year”, and explain terms such as APR while adding up the interest charged. It says Claude can also build “a weekly spending chart, a calendar of what’s due, or a dashboard of the numbers you choose”.

What Was Posted on X

Claude’s official account announced Personal Finance at 18:00 UTC on 5 November 2026, with a video. The post calls it a beta in the US, says Claude answers money questions from a user’s own balances and transactions, and says access is read-only: Claude can’t move, manage, or invest the money.

What Claude Can See

Accounts are connected through Plaid, which the post calls “a service that connects apps to banks”; users sign in to their bank there, “so Claude doesn’t ask for or see your bank password.”

For connected accounts, the post says Claude sees “the bank’s name, each account’s name, type, and last four digits, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transactions.” That is up to 24 months of history, by our arithmetic. It adds: “When you chat with Claude in the Personal Finance hub, those conversations aren’t used to train our models.” Outside the hub, users’ privacy settings apply.

The post also says Personal Finance “isn’t designed to give investment advice” and that “Claude can make mistakes in its answers”, so users should check important figures with their bank.

Who Gets It, at What Price

The announcement says “Personal Finance starts rolling out in beta this week, on the Pro, Max, and Ultra plans in the US.” Claude’s pricing page lists Pro at $17 a month with the annual discount ($200 billed up front) or $20 billed monthly, Max at $100 a month and Ultra at $200 a month.

The post says Personal Finance has “no ads or sponsored recommendations, and it doesn’t offer credit cards, loans, or savings accounts of its own”. Under “What’s next”, it says Anthropic would like to hear from “banks, wealth managers, and financial services companies who want to help shape it.”

Connecting the Coverage

On 19 October we reported TestingCatalog’s finding that the feature was being prepared to “work through Plaid integration”, with app screens saying access was “Read-only, so Claude can’t move money.” What’s new: Anthropic has now announced it, confirmed Plaid and read-only access, and named the plans and the country.

TechCrunch reports that OpenAI introduced similar personal finance tools in ChatGPT in May; we covered that move in OpenAI vs Mint. Anthropic’s other October launches put Claude closer to money as well: Claude Duet buying for businesses via Stripe and reports on what Claude spending buys. On the same day, Perplexity put its new agents behind its $167-a-month Max plan.

The Structural Read

As we read the announcement, the product is the connection: Claude answers from the user’s own balances and up to two years of transactions rather than from general knowledge.

As we read the plan list, the feature sits behind paid plans only, and Anthropic says the hub has no ads and no financial products of its own.

“Access is read-only, and Personal Finance can’t move, manage, or invest your money.”

Three Implications

FOR USERS The announcement says Claude sees balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions for the accounts a user connects, and can be unlinked at any time.

FOR ANTHROPIC The announcement says it would like to hear from banks, wealth managers, and financial services companies.

FOR RIVALS TechCrunch reports that OpenAI introduced similar tools in ChatGPT in May.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Embedding Business Model.

The framework says: “In the embedding era, value comes from what the software connects to.”

As we read it, Personal Finance is a connection more than a feature: through Plaid, Claude reads the bank and card accounts a user chooses, read-only.

What Is Not Established

The announcement gives no user, waitlist or revenue figures, no date for a full rollout and no plans for countries outside the US. It does not say what Anthropic pays Plaid, or whether Personal Finance has usage limits of its own beyond each plan’s.

The Bottom Line

Claude now reads users’ bank and card accounts through Plaid, read-only, on paid plans only: a US beta for Pro, Max and Ultra, with Pro listed at $17 a month on annual billing, 18 days after TestingCatalog reported it in preparation on 18 October, by our arithmetic.

A note on sourcing. The product description, example figures and privacy terms are from Anthropic’s announcement of 5 November 2026 and Claude’s posts on X; plan prices are from Claude’s pricing page as read on 5 November; the ChatGPT comparison is TechCrunch’s report.
