Perplexity Launches Teammates for $167-a-Month Max Users

Perplexity is launching teammates, personal agents that take on long-running work, and they are rolling out first to subscribers of Perplexity Max, the plan its pricing page lists at $167 a month when billed annually. Chief executive Aravind Srinivas announced the launch on X on 5 November.

Max is about 9.8 times the $17-a-month Pro plan at the same annual billing, by our arithmetic, or $2,004 a year.

Business Pill · Usage-Based Pricing

A one-minute explainer of usage-based pricing: charging for what customers consume rather than for seats. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Perplexity or teammates.

The key insight: Perplexity is launching teammates, personal agents for long-running work, first for Max subscribers on the web; its pricing page lists Max at $167 a month billed annually, about 9.8 times the $17 Pro plan by our arithmetic.

What Perplexity Says Teammates Do

Srinivas wrote that teammates “are personal agents for work” and “change the paradigm from writing prompts in a session to giving high-level goals”. He said they are “Rolling out to Max users on the web today”, with “Native apps (mobile, desktop) coming soon”.

Perplexity’s blog post, dated 4 November, says teammates “plan and coordinate projects, switch gears as priorities change, and present results for review”. It says they “remember project goals, task history, and shared files across runs” and work inside Perplexity Computer “with all of your tools and files”.

The post describes teammates that monitor work and act “without waiting for a fresh query”. In its sales example, a teammate “notices when a regular customer stops transacting”, reviews the history and prepares an offer, and “shares progress updates and approval requests until it completes the work”.

What Was Posted on X

Perplexity chief executive Aravind Srinivas posted the launch at 17:02 UTC on 5 November 2026, with a video. He calls teammates personal agents for work that move users from prompts in a session to high-level goals, and says they are rolling out to Max users on the web, with native mobile and desktop apps to follow.

Perplexity’s own account posted this at 17:05 UTC on 5 November 2026, three minutes after Srinivas. It says teammates take on jobs and work proactively using Computer tasks, skills, memory and tools, collaborate with other teammates, can message coworkers in Slack, and are available now for Max subscribers on the web.

Aravind Srinivas, Perplexityโ€™s co-founder and CEO, posted this at 17:35 UTC on 5 November 2026. He wrote that Perplexity has about 10,000 teammates โ€œ(within the last 30 days)โ€ in its internal workspace, which he called 20x its headcount, with about 1,000 active the day before, and that headcount growth and planning โ€œwill be done very differently in the coming years.โ€

Tools, Teams and Controls

The setup steps name three plugins, Slack, GitHub and Gmail. The post says users can “Add a teammate to a Slack channel and colleagues can hand it work or ask for updates on a task”, and that teammates “can also pass work to each other”.

On controls, the post says “Each teammate runs in a separate environment, with browser sessions separate from other teammates” and that “Saved credentials are encrypted and entered securely”. Users can “review completed work, take over the desktop, or redirect a teammate as it works”.

The examples cover marketing, sales, customer support and operations. In the operations example, a teammate “follows up on missing items when a deadline is 72 hours away”.

Who Gets It, at What Price

The blog says teammates are “initially launching on the web and soon on iOS for Perplexity Max subscribers”, and that Free and Pro subscribers can upgrade. Perplexity’s pricing page lists Pro at $17 a month and Max at $167 a month, both “when billed annually”; Max includes “10,000 monthly credits” for Computer.

The post says Perplexity will expand “teammates’ access and features in the coming weeks”.

The Structural Read

As we read Perplexity’s post, teammates are a layer on top of Perplexity Computer: they reuse its Projects, skills, memory and tool permissions rather than introducing a separate product.

As we read the setup steps, a teammate is configured around a standing job (where the work comes from, what it delivers and when it acts) rather than around a single prompt.

As we read the pricing page, the launch sits in the plan that carries 10,000 monthly Computer credits, the only tier with a monthly credit allowance listed.

Three Implications

FOR TEAMS ON SLACK Perplexity’s post says colleagues can add a teammate to a Slack channel, hand it work and ask for updates.

FOR SECURITY AND IT The post says each teammate runs in a separate environment and saved credentials are encrypted and entered securely.

FOR PRICING Teammates start in the Max plan, which Perplexity lists at $167 a month billed annually, against $17 for Pro.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Agentic Harness War.

The framework says: “The surface, not the model, governs autonomy.”

As we read it, Perplexity is shipping teammates as a new surface on top of Computer, with its own permissions, environments and review steps. The framework does not discuss Perplexity or teammates.

Update, 5 Nov, 18:03Z: Srinivas puts Perplexity’s internal teammates at about 10,000 over the last 30 days. Aravind Srinivas, Perplexity’s co-founder and CEO, posted on X at 17:35 UTC: “We have about 10,000 teammates (within the last 30 days) in Perplexity’s internal workspace right now. That’s already 20x our headcount. And about a 1000 were active yesterday.” By our arithmetic from his figures, about 1,000 active of about 10,000 is roughly 10% in a day, and 20x implies a headcount of about 500; the post does not state the headcount itself, and “within the last 30 days” is his qualifier on the 10,000.

What Is Not Established

Neither the blog post nor the launch post gives usage, customer or revenue figures for teammates, or says how many Computer credits a teammate consumes. The blog is dated 4 November while the chief executive announced the rollout on 5 November; the sources we read do not explain the gap.
