Anthropic said on 28 October 2026 that three new tools are “now generally available for Claude Enterprise”: smart reports, in-app surveys and pooled group budgets. In its post, a smart report takes a team, a date range and the products to include, analyses a sample of the team’s transcripts and groups the work into workstreams, showing “the spend for each one, the deliverables produced, and the most common points of friction”.
In plain words, Anthropic is giving the companies that buy Claude a way to see what their teams did with it, what that work cost and where it got stuck. TechCrunch, which reported the launch, described it as “a clear attempt to demonstrate the return on investment of Anthropic’s tools”.

Business Pill · Output per Employee
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on output per employee as a measure of what technology adds. It explains the general idea only and is not about Anthropic’s reports.
The key insight: As we read it, Anthropic’s post turns spending on Claude into something a team can see: each smart report groups a team’s work into workstreams with the spend, deliverables and friction points for each, and pooled group budgets let admins set one shared monthly budget per team.
What Anthropic Launched
- Smart reports. The post says each report has “one consolidated list of recommendations, including recurring workflows to turn into skills and rules to add to your code repository”. It says reports also answer custom questions about model usage and cost, and that admins with billing permission can raise a spend limit from the report.
- Limits on use. The post says smart reports “aren’t for evaluating individual performance or making employment decisions.” It says owners can let team leads who are not admins run reports for their own groups.
- In-app surveys. The post lists four default questions, including what would break or slow down first “if the team lost access tomorrow”. It says admins can customise or remove questions, export responses to a spreadsheet, and that “In-app surveys are treated as your data”.
- Pooled group budgets. The post says they give a group “one shared monthly budget”, while member limits still act as a guardrail, and that “Every request counts against both, and a member stops at whichever runs out first.”

Who Anthropic Quoted
The post quotes people at six companies: Monday, Slalom, Wix, Deloitte, DoorDash and Docusign. A Wix software engineer, Ran Yitzhaki, is quoted saying “Each smart report is based on tens of thousands of sessions”. John Jannone, AI enablement lead at DoorDash, is quoted saying smart reports “still surfaced things I didn’t know.”
Why Spending Visibility Matters Now
TechCrunch reported that the financials Anthropic shared with investors this week show 900% net revenue retention, which it explained as spending from the same customers in Q3 2025 growing nine times in Q3 2026. It also wrote that “most of the Fortune 500 are not seeing major gains from deploying AI.” TechCrunch quoted Jellyfish chief scientist Nicholas Arcolano: “it’s not enough to just spend a bunch. You now have to optimize it, make it work.”
Connecting the Coverage
Our SAP piece reported, citing Reuters, that SAP is replacing some expensive AI models with cheaper alternatives and expects more than €2 billion in efficiency gains. Our Amazon piece covered Amazon’s revised engineer role guideline, which puts outcomes above AI token use. What’s new: Anthropic is now selling its own customers a tool to measure what their Claude spending produces.
Our price-compression analysis set falling AI prices against Anthropic’s growing sales to existing customers, and our S-1 piece covered the filing’s revenue figures. Our ING piece carries an Axios post headlined that AI may not be boosting productivity much yet. On the same day, Anthropic also expanded Claude for Legal.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the post pairs measurement with control: reports show what work cost, surveys collect the team’s own view and pooled budgets move spend to where the work happens.
The post says smart reports are not for evaluating individual performance or making employment decisions, and that owners can let team leads run reports for their own groups.
TechCrunch, which reported the launch, described it as an attempt to demonstrate the return on investment of Anthropic’s tools.

Three Implications
FOR FINANCE TEAMS The post says reports answer custom questions about model usage and cost, and that admins with billing permission can raise a spend limit from the report.
FOR TEAM LEADS The post says owners can let team leads who are not admins run smart reports for their own groups.
FOR EMPLOYEES The post says smart reports aren’t for evaluating individual performance or making employment decisions, and that in-app surveys are treated as the customer’s data.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The CFO’s Guide to the Token Economy.
The framework argues: “The new job of finance is to manage the ratio between the two — work produced per token burned.”
Anthropic’s smart reports put spend next to deliverables for each workstream, the kind of ratio the framework describes. The framework does not discuss Anthropic’s reports.
What Is Not Established
The post gives no price for the three tools beyond their availability for Claude Enterprise, no number of customers using them and no example of measured savings. It says availability varies by configuration, including for organisations with a HIPAA configuration or customer-managed encryption keys. The 900% net revenue retention figure comes from financials Anthropic shared with investors this week, as reported by TechCrunch; we did not re-check it for this piece. We did not contact Anthropic.
The Bottom Line
Anthropic made smart reports, in-app surveys and pooled group budgets generally available for Claude Enterprise on 28 October 2026. The reports group a team’s Claude work into workstreams with the spend, deliverables and friction points for each, and the post quotes users at six companies, including Deloitte and DoorDash.
