Apple said on 23 October 2026 that the iPhone Duo, which it calls the first foldable iPhone, “made its debut at Apple Store locations worldwide.” It starts at $1,999 in the U.S., and Apple says customers in more than 70 countries and regions can buy it from today, with 28 more countries and regions from Friday, 30 October.
In a second release the same day, Apple listed the apps built for the new screen, including one that runs its AI models on the device itself. The inner display is “50 percent larger than iPhone 18 Pro Max,” Apple says, and Split View lets users open two apps side by side on iPhone for the first time.
Business Pill · ON-DEVICE AI
A short Business Engineer explainer on on-device AI: a model that runs on the device itself instead of in the cloud. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about any company in this piece.
The key insight: As we read it, the launch is as much about software as hardware: Apple paired the $1,999 iPhone Duo with a second release on the apps rebuilt for its larger inner screen, from Split View for two apps side by side to Detail, which Apple says runs its AI models on device through the new Core AI framework.
What Apple Said
- The launch. “Across the globe, customers filled stores and team members invited them to experience the first foldable iPhone, offering hands-on demos and personalized shopping support,” Apple’s store release says.
- The price. Apple says the iPhone Duo is available in star white and night sky, starting at $1,999 (U.S.), or $83.29 (U.S.) per month for 24 months, in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage capacities.
- The markets. Apple lists Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Türkiye, the UAE, the UK, the U.S. and Vietnam among the more than 70 countries and regions in the first wave.
- The screen. Apple says both displays share the same aspect ratio, so apps move from the outer display to the inner one and scale proportionally.

What Was Posted on X
Patently Apple posted an X article on 23 October 2026 titled “The iPhone Duo begins to Rollout at Apple Stores Worldwide,” reporting that the iPhone Duo made its debut at Apple Store locations worldwide.
@kimmonismus wrote on 23 October 2026 that Anthropic had done “the most amazing job adapting Claude for the iPhone Duo.” The praise is the poster’s own view. As of 12:40 UTC on 23 October, we did not find an Anthropic announcement of an iPhone Duo version of Claude on Anthropic’s news page, the Claude release notes or the Claude App Store listing, and neither Apple release names Claude.
Apple Hub posted on X that the first people to get the iPhone Duo at Apple’s Fifth Avenue store were out.
The Apps Built for the Fold
By our count, Apple names more than 50 apps and games in its developer release. Microsoft Word and Outlook will roll out a desktop-class experience “In the coming weeks,” Apple says, and it says Slack “brings a user’s whole workspace into view, making it easy to follow channels and automate tasks.”
The clearest AI example in the release is Detail, a video app. Apple says Detail “uses the new Core AI framework to run AI models on device.” Paul Veugen, Detail’s founder and CEO, said in the release: “because our AI models run on device, captions, filler-word removal, and audio enhancement are fast and private wherever creators are.”
Apple says “More than 2,000 developers have attended more than 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities around the world,” and that optimized apps carry a Made for iPhone Duo badge on the App Store. “The response to iPhone Duo from our developer community has been incredible,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations.
Connecting the Coverage
Our iPhone Duo stock piece reported that Apple said on 21 October that its stores would have only a “limited” number of units for walk-in customers, and that MacRumors reported a January 25 shipping date for new online orders half an hour after pre-orders opened. What’s new: the device is now in stores, and Apple has published the price, the markets and the app list.
Our phone agents piece reported that SpaceXSI said on 22 October 2026 that Grok Bot can now use Calendar, Reminders, Contacts and more apps on your phone. Our Apple nose-pad patent piece reported, citing Patently Apple, an Apple patent for a gaze-tracking module small enough to sit inside the nosepiece of a pair of glasses.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the bigger screen gives apps more room, and Apple is putting it to work: Apple says Split View opens two apps side by side on iPhone for the first time, and that Word and Outlook will roll out a desktop-class experience in the coming weeks.
As we read it, on-device AI appears in the release as an app feature: Detail’s founder says its captions, filler-word removal and audio enhancement are fast and private because its AI models run on device.
As we read it, supply is the open question for launch week: our iPhone Duo stock piece reported Apple’s own word for walk-in stock was “limited”, and Apple gives no unit figures in the releases we read.
Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, 23 October 2026
“The response to iPhone Duo from our developer community has been incredible, and weβre inspired by how quickly theyβve embraced its larger display and new ways to interact”
Three Implications
FOR BUYERS Apple says the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 (U.S.), or $83.29 (U.S.) per month for 24 months, in four storage capacities from 256GB to 2TB.
FOR APP DEVELOPERS Apple says optimized apps carry a Made for iPhone Duo badge on the App Store, and that more than 2,000 developers have attended more than 50 in-person workshops in 19 cities.
FOR AI APP MAKERS Apple says Detail uses the new Core AI framework to run AI models on device; neither Apple release names Claude or Anthropic.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Product Overhang Doctrine.
The framework describes two curves, what the underlying technology can do and what users can actually do with it, and names the gap between them, “what the platform makes possible versus what the product surfaces”, overhang.
As we read it, the iPhone Duo opens a new platform gap of this kind: the hardware and Split View arrive today, while Apple says many app updates are still rolling out throughout the year. The framework was published in June 2026 and does not discuss this device.
What Is Not Established
Apple gives no sales or unit figures in the two releases we read, and the prices it states are U.S. prices. Neither Apple release names Claude or Anthropic. An X user, @kimmonismus, posted on 23 October praising how Anthropic adapted Claude for the iPhone Duo; that is the poster’s own view. As of 12:40 UTC on 23 October, we did not find an Anthropic announcement of an iPhone Duo version of Claude on Anthropic’s news page, the Claude release notes or the Claude App Store listing. We did not contact Apple or Anthropic. Nothing here is investment advice.
The Bottom Line
Apple’s first foldable iPhone is on sale from $1,999 in more than 70 countries and regions, and Apple says developers have already rebuilt apps for its larger screen, including one that runs its AI models on the device.
95,000+ executives read Business Engineer for the AI strategy frameworks cited by ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity.
A note on sourcing. This piece is based on Apple’s two Newsroom releases of 23 October 2026, on two posts on X passed to us, and on our own earlier pieces. The app count is ours. We did not contact Apple or Anthropic. Nothing here is investment advice.
