Apple’s stock market value topped Nvidia’s at the close on 4 November, by our arithmetic: about $5.08 trillion against about $4.82 trillion, a gap of about $256.0 billion. Apple closed at $349.51, up 5.31%, and Nvidia at $200.13, down 3.17%, according to Nasdaq.com.
At the 3 November close Nvidia had been ahead by about $158.0 billion, so the gap between the two moved by about $414 billion in one session, by our arithmetic. Kalshi posted on X at 22:01 UTC that Apple “is now worth more than Nvidia”, without figures; the numbers here are our own check.

An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on power laws, where a few outcomes take most of the value. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Apple or Nvidia.
The key insight: At the 4 November close Apple was worth about $5.08 trillion and Nvidia about $4.82 trillion, by our arithmetic, a gap of about $256.0 billion, after Nvidia had been ahead by about $158.0 billion at the 3 November close.
How We Got the Two Values
Market value here is the regular-session close multiplied by the shares outstanding on each company’s latest SEC filing cover. For Apple that is 14,532,182,000 shares as of 23 October, from the 10-K it filed on 3 November. For Nvidia it is 24.1 billion shares as of 21 August, from its 10-Q filed on 26 August; Nvidia has not filed a later quarterly report.
Apple: $349.51 times 14,532,182,000 shares is about $5.079 trillion. Nvidia: $200.13 times 24.1 billion shares is about $4.823 trillion. Apple is ahead by about $256.0 billion, or about 5.3%, by our arithmetic.

What Was Posted on X
Kalshi’s post on X at 22:01 UTC on 4 November, which said Apple is now worth more than Nvidia and gave no figures. By our arithmetic from Nasdaq.com closes and SEC cover share counts, Apple was worth about $5.08 trillion and Nvidia about $4.82 trillion at the close.
Is It Close Enough to Flip?
No, on these share counts. Nvidia reports its count rounded to 0.1 billion shares, which moves its value by about $10 billion either way. For the two to tie at these closes, Nvidia would need about 25.4 billion shares, about 1.3 billion more than its cover reports, by our arithmetic.
Apple’s count has been shrinking. Using its previous 10-Q count of 14,594,180,000 shares instead of the 10-K count, Apple would be worth about $5.10 trillion and ahead by about $277.7 billion. Either way, Apple was ahead at the close.
A Lead That Has Changed Hands
This is not the first close this year with Apple ahead. Our Apple Trailed Nvidia 204 of 209 Days Before a $98B Lead found Apple ahead on five closes up to 30 October: 27 to 30 July, and 30 October, when it led by about $97.8 billion.
Using the same method, Apple stayed ahead at the 2 November close, by about $67.9 billion, and Nvidia was ahead at the 3 November close. With 4 November, that makes seven closes in 2026 with Apple ahead, by our arithmetic.
In one session Apple added about $255.9 billion of market value and Nvidia lost about $158.1 billion, by our arithmetic from the Nasdaq.com price changes.

The Structural Read
As we read the two cover pages, share counts matter at this scale: Nvidia’s rounding alone is worth about $10 billion either way, by our arithmetic, but the gap at the close was about 25 times that.
As we read the daily closes, the lead has changed hands several times since 30 October, so a single close settles the ranking for that day only.

“JUST IN: Apple is now worth more than Nvidia”
Three Implications
FOR THE RANKING Apple was ahead at the 4 November close by about $256.0 billion, by our arithmetic, after Nvidia led by about $158.0 billion a day earlier.
FOR THE METHOD The result holds on either of Apple’s two latest cover counts: about $256.0 billion ahead on the 10-K count, about $277.7 billion on the earlier 10-Q count.
FOR THE YEAR With 2 and 4 November, Apple has closed ahead of Nvidia seven times in 2026, by our arithmetic.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map & The State of AI Hyperscalers.
The framework says: “Apple reported the day after, decreasing capex year-over-year”, after the Big Four raised their 2026 capex guides.
As we read it, the two companies sit on different sides of that capex cycle: Nvidia sells the chips the spending buys, while the framework describes Apple as cutting capex. On 4 November the market valued Apple above Nvidia, by our arithmetic. The framework does not discuss market values, and Nasdaq.com gives no reason for either move.

What Is Not Established
Market value here is our arithmetic from closing prices and cover-page share counts; data providers that use other share counts may show different figures. Nasdaq.com does not say why either stock moved, and we do not attribute the moves to the election or to any single cause. After-hours prices are not used. Kalshi’s post gives no method or figures.
The Bottom Line
At the 4 November close Apple was worth about $5.08 trillion and Nvidia about $4.82 trillion, by our arithmetic, a gap of about $256.0 billion after Nvidia had led by about $158.0 billion a day earlier. It is Apple’s seventh close ahead of Nvidia in 2026 on our count.
