KYEC, Advanced $1.1B by Nvidia, Trims Q4 Guide; Stock -9.8%

KYEC, the Taiwanese chip tester that Nvidia gave a $1.1 billion capacity reservation advance in October, lowered its fourth-quarter guidance to quarter-on-quarter revenue growth in the high single digits, about 7% to 10%, TechNews reported on 6 November. The report attributes the cut mainly to a slight delay in the mass-production schedule of some key customers’ next-generation GPUs, caused by yield problems in the HBM4 memory supply chain.

KYEC shares closed at NT$206.00 on 6 November, down NT$22.50 or 9.8%, Taiwan Stock Exchange data show, and 21.7% below the 2 November close by our arithmetic.

Business Pill · Concentration

A short explainer on concentration. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss KYEC or Nvidia.

The key insight: As we read TechNews’s report and KYEC’s own revenue table, the guidance cut lands after a record October: growth of 7% to 10% implies November and December averaging between 3.2% below and 0.9% above October, by our arithmetic.

What Was Reported

TechNews, summarising research from Morgan Stanley, Bank of America and Citi, says KYEC’s third-quarter revenue was NT$12.142 billion, up 9% from the second quarter and 31% from a year earlier, with a 37.6% gross margin and earnings of NT$2.06 a share. It says fourth-quarter gross margin is expected to slip to 36% to 37% as depreciation and labour costs rise.

Besides the GPU delay, TechNews cites a relatively flat recovery in smartphone and consumer-electronics demand. It says strong orders for AI ASICs such as Google’s TPUs and for CPUs including Nvidia’s Vera cushioned the impact.

The report does not name the customer or the GPU. A post on X by @jukan05 says the delay affects “a major GPU, believed to be NVIDIA’s Rubin, caused by HBM4 yield issues at a memory supplier.” That identification is the poster’s; the memory supplier is not named in either source.

KYEC monthly revenue in 2026 from the company’s investor-relations table, NT$ billion, with the November-December monthly average implied by fourth-quarter growth of 7% to 10%, the guidance TechNews reported on 6 November. Bars are ranked by value; the implied averages are our arithmetic.

What October Already Shows

KYEC’s own monthly revenue table shows October revenue of NT$4.426 billion, a record, up 8.7% from September and 29.5% from October 2025, by our arithmetic. Third-quarter revenue on the same table sums to NT$12.142 billion, matching the reported figure.

Applied to that base, growth of 7% to 10% implies fourth-quarter revenue of NT$12.99 billion to NT$13.36 billion. With October already booked, November and December would average NT$4.28 billion to NT$4.47 billion a month, between 3.2% below and 0.9% above October, by our arithmetic.

How Brokers Responded

TechNews says foreign institutions generally see the revision as a deferral. It reports Morgan Stanley expects the delayed test orders to appear in the first quarter of 2027, with quarterly growth of 10% to 15% or more. It lists Morgan Stanley at Overweight with a NT$348 target, Bank of America at Buy with NT$330 and Citi at Buy with a target adjusted to NT$286.

The share drop came on a day when Taiwan’s main index fell 4.51% and regulators curbed short selling, as we reported, so the move cannot be attributed to the guidance alone.

The Structural Read

As we read TechNews, the stated cause is a delay at some key customers’ next-generation GPUs tied to HBM4 yields; the report names neither the customers nor the memory maker, and the Rubin identification comes from a post on X.

As we read the broker views TechNews summarises, foreign institutions see a deferral, with Morgan Stanley expecting the delayed test orders in the first quarter of 2027.

As we read the share move, KYEC fell 9.8% on a day Taiwan’s main index fell 4.51%, so the guidance is one of several factors in the price.

Three Implications

FOR NVIDIA’S SUPPLY CHAIN TechNews ties the fourth-quarter guidance to HBM4 yields at the memory stage; which customer and GPU are affected is not established.

FOR KYEC TechNews reports fourth-quarter gross margin expected at 36% to 37%, down from 37.6% in the third quarter.

As we read it, a chip tester’s guidance now moves with memory yields. The analysis does not discuss KYEC.

What Is Not Established

We did not read KYEC’s investor-conference materials; Taiwan’s filing site was not accessible to us, and the guidance and its cause come from TechNews’s account of broker research. Which customer and GPU are affected, which memory maker has the yield problem, and how long the delay lasts are not established. We found no statement from Nvidia or the memory makers, and we did not contact them or KYEC.

The Bottom Line

KYEC lowered its fourth-quarter guidance to growth of about 7% to 10%, TechNews reported, citing delays to some key customers’ next-generation GPUs tied to HBM4 yields, and its shares closed down 9.8%. With a record October booked, the guidance implies November and December near October’s level, by our arithmetic.
