Google.com received 509.8 million visits in September 2026 in a ranking of the “Top 10 websites in the world by Gen AI traffic” that the web-data company Similarweb posted on X on 29 October. Its table gives google.com a 25.30% traffic share, against 3.04% and 61.28 million visits for chatgpt.com, which ranked third behind youtube.com.
By our arithmetic, google.com drew about 8.3 times the visits of chatgpt.com, and its 25.30% share is larger than the other nine domains in the table combined, at 18.61%.

Business Pill · Distribution Advantage
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on distribution advantage. It explains the general idea only and does not discuss Similarweb’s data.
The key insight: By our arithmetic from Similarweb’s table, google.com’s 25.30% share of Gen AI traffic in September was larger than the other nine domains in the top ten combined, at 18.61%, and its 509.8 million visits were about 8.3 times chatgpt.com’s.
What Similarweb Published
The table lists ten domains out of a column headed “Domain (10,000)”, with a traffic share, a change figure and monthly visits for each. After google.com come youtube.com at 88.97 million visits and 4.41%, chatgpt.com at 61.28 million and 3.04%, and openai.com at 55.77 million and 2.77%.
The rest of the ten are claude.com at 33.00 million, facebook.com at 32.85 million, whatsapp.com at 30.77 million, gemini.google.com at 30.04 million, claude.ai at 21.90 million and x.ai at 20.34 million.
The change column shows increases for google.com (6.78%), openai.com (15.68%), claude.com (5.63%) and x.ai (7.51%), and decreases for youtube.com (67.42%), facebook.com (62.93%), gemini.google.com (40.99%), whatsapp.com (33.15%), chatgpt.com (29.94%) and claude.ai (14.44%). The post does not say what period the change compares.

What Was Posted on X
Similarweb posted its list of the top 10 websites in the world by Gen AI traffic for September 2026.
What Gen AI Traffic Means Here
The post does not define Gen AI traffic. When Similarweb launched its AI Chatbot Traffic data in April 2025, it said the product lets users “identify and analyze web traffic originating from popular AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude”, and described it as “a distinct traffic source from traditional search and other referrals”.
The table does not say which chatbots the traffic came from, so it does not show how much of google.com’s total reached it this way, or which AI products sent it.

The Arithmetic
By our arithmetic, the ten domains account for 43.91% of the table’s traffic share and 884.7 million visits. The six domains run by AI developers (chatgpt.com, openai.com, claude.com, gemini.google.com, claude.ai and x.ai) together hold 11.04% and 222.3 million visits.
Counting Google’s three domains in the ten, google.com, youtube.com and gemini.google.com, gives 31.20% of the share and 628.8 million visits. Anthropic’s two domains add to 54.9 million visits; OpenAI’s two add to 117.1 million.
The Structural Read
As we read the table, the domain with the most Gen AI traffic in September was google.com, Google’s main site, rather than a chatbot domain such as chatgpt.com or gemini.google.com.
By our arithmetic, the six domains run by AI developers in the ten held 11.04% of the share between them, less than half of google.com’s 25.30%.
As we read the change column, four of the ten rose and six fell; Similarweb’s post does not say what period the change compares.

Three Implications
FOR GOOGLE By our arithmetic, Google’s three domains in the ten (google.com, youtube.com and gemini.google.com) held 31.20% of the share and 628.8 million visits.
FOR THE AI DEVELOPERS By our arithmetic, OpenAI’s two domains drew 117.1 million visits and Anthropic’s two 54.9 million; Similarweb’s post does not define the measure.
FOR META Meta’s facebook.com and whatsapp.com appear in the ten, while the table shows declines of 62.93% and 33.15% in their change column.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Embedding Business Model.
The framework puts it this way: “In the embedding era, value comes from what the software connects to.”
As we read it, Similarweb’s table puts google.com first by Gen AI traffic, ahead of every chatbot domain in the ten. The framework does not discuss Similarweb’s data or September 2026.

What Is Not Established
Similarweb’s post does not define Gen AI traffic, the change column or the method behind the visit counts, and we did not read a Similarweb report on this table. Meta’s facebook.com and whatsapp.com appear in the ten; a domain for Meta’s Muse assistant does not. All sums, ratios and groupings are our arithmetic from the published table.
The Bottom Line
In Similarweb’s September ranking by Gen AI traffic, google.com drew 509.8 million visits and a 25.30% share. By our arithmetic that is about 8.3 times chatgpt.com and more than the other nine domains combined; Similarweb’s post does not define the measure.
