Anthropic’s Claude for Startups program page says approved founders get a free year of Claude Team, $1,000 in Claude API credits and up to $45K in offers from partner companies. Anthropic announced the expanded program on 6 October 2026, and TechCrunch says it launched as part of Anthropic’s SF Tech Week event.
The page sets the limits in the same text. The Team year covers up to five Premium seats and only organisations new to Claude Team, and the API credits expire six months after they are granted. We read Anthropic’s announcement, the program page, the program’s official terms and addendum, the event page and TechCrunch’s report.
Business Pill · LOW TODAY, NOT FOREVER
A one-minute explainer of the idea behind this story: an introductory price. It teaches the concept, not this story’s figures.
The key insight: The page puts different clocks on different benefits. The Claude Team year runs twelve months, and the $1,000 of API credits expire six months after they are granted. Where the eight partner listings we read state a duration, it runs from three months to a year, and the page says those offers come from independent companies, not from Anthropic.
What the Program Page Offers
The page gives three headline numbers: one year of Claude Team, $1,000 in Claude API credits and up to $45K in offer value from participating Anthropic partners. It says approved founders get all three.
The Team offer is “One year of Claude Team free for up to five Premium seats if you’re new to Team,” the page says. A separate line adds: “Only orgs that are new to Teams qualify for this offer.”
The credits are claimed in the Claude Console once a company is accepted. The page says “Credits expire six months after they’re granted,” and that they apply to the first-party Claude API through Claude Console. It says they “can’t be used on AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or other third-party platforms.”
The page also says members who receive credits “automatically get higher API rate limits.” Members can book 45-minute live office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team, which the page says are held every other week, and can join events such as Founder House, hackathons and meetups.
Anthropic’s announcement also lists Claude Marketplace, where it says people using Claude find connectors and plugins, and says members get hands-on help building a listing and submitting it for review. TechCrunch reports the same Marketplace access. Marketplace is not among the benefits in the program page text we read.

Who Qualifies and How It Is Decided
The page describes eligible companies as “Startups founded in the last 5 years or funded in the last 2.” An applicant needs a Claude Console account, a company email that matches its website’s domain, and a short description of what it is building. The page says applicants must comply with Anthropic’s supportability policies.
It says the program is open to bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed startups. Founders backed by a VC in Anthropic’s partner network can also get up to $100K in additional API credits, the page says, claimed through their VC.
On timing, the page says: “We review every application. Most are decided within minutes; the rest go to a manual review, which usually takes 2–3 business days.”
The official terms say eligibility is determined in Anthropic’s sole discretion and that evaluation factors include “business traction, investment, and funding, as well as Claude integration and usage.” They bar applicants established or operating in Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Crimea and two other named regions, or planning to make Anthropic’s services available to people there.
The Partner Offers in the Claude Startup Stack
The page describes the Claude Startup Stack as discounts and credits worth up to $45,000 from tools that run an AI-native company, redeemed in the Claude Console. It states: “Claude Startup Stack benefits are offered by independent third-party companies, not by Anthropic.”
The page text we read lists eight offers: Attention (20% off the first year, with a 7-day free trial), Augment Code ($100 in Cosmos credits), ClickHouse ($5K of ClickHouse Cloud credits), ElevenLabs (12 months free plus 33M characters), Emergent (20% off for the first 6 months), Firecrawl (2.5x the plan’s monthly credits for a year), Gamma (25% off the first year of Gamma Pro annual) and Granola (3 months of Business free, up to 10 seats).
Most of those listings are percentages and months rather than dollar totals, so we cannot rebuild the $45K figure from them.
The addendum says Anthropic “does not create, offer, issue, fund, redeem, supply, provide, sell, fulfill, administer, verify or guarantee any Stack Benefit.” It says each Stack Benefit is governed by the provider’s own terms and, unless the provider states otherwise, may be redeemed once per member and has no cash value.
The Terms Behind the Page
The page says all benefits are subject to the Startup Program Terms and the Additional Benefits Addendum. The Program Terms we read carry the line “Last updated May 22, 2025.” They name API credits, priority rate limits and “access to certain resources” as program benefits; they do not name Claude Team.
Selected companies grant Anthropic permission to use their name and logo to identify them as a Selected Awardee and Anthropic customer, the terms say. They also say a selected company may be asked to sign an affidavit and a publicity and liability release within 14 calendar days, or the benefits may be forfeited.
Anthropic “reserves the right in its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Program,” according to the terms.
The addendum describes the Applied AI office hours as “consultative only” and says Anthropic “does not commit to any particular amount of support or engagement.”
The Structural Read
The page splits the package by who provides it. The Team year and the $1,000 of credits come from Anthropic. The up-to-$45K Startup Stack is, in the page’s words, offered by independent third-party companies. The up-to-$100K of extra API credits comes through a VC in Anthropic’s partner network, not through the application.
Two of the limits concern where the benefit can be used. The credits apply to the first-party Claude API through Claude Console and, the page says, can’t be used on AWS Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI. The Team year is described for organisations new to Claude Team.
The two benefits Anthropic provides directly are each tied to its own products and to a time limit: the Team year to Claude Team, and the credits to the first-party API for six months. Anthropic’s announcement puts the package at up to $7,000, based on five Premium seats at $100 per seat per month billed annually ($6,000) plus the one-time $1,000 credit, and says actual value depends on the number and type of seats. The program page we read gives no price for Claude Team. See also our explainers on customer acquisition cost and switching costs; we draw no conclusion from the page about either.
Anthropic, in its announcement of 6 October 2026
“We created this program because we believe the benefits of AI will reach most people through the companies that build on top of models, rather than through the models alone.”
Three Implications
THE CREDITS ARE TIME-BOXED The page says the credits expire six months after they are granted, so the $1,000 has a six-month window.
THE TEAM YEAR IS FOR NEW CUSTOMERS The page says only organisations new to Claude Team qualify for the free year, so the offer is described for first-time Team customers.
PARTNER OFFERS ARE SEPARATE CONTRACTS The addendum says each Stack Benefit is governed by the provider’s own terms, and that Anthropic does not verify or guarantee any of them.
What Is Not Established
We did not read CNBC’s coverage.
The program page gives no price for Claude Team, so the $7,000 figure rests only on the basis Anthropic states in its announcement. The page gives no cap on how many companies will be accepted, no count of members so far and no cost to Anthropic.
The Stack list we read had eight entries, and the page may hold more than that. The Program Terms we read were last updated in May 2025, and we do not know whether they have been revised for this expansion.
The Bottom Line
Anthropic’s Claude for Startups page says approved founders get a free year of Claude Team for up to five Premium seats, $1,000 in Claude API credits that expire six months after they are granted, and up to $45K in offers that independent partner companies, not Anthropic, provide. It is open to companies founded in the last five years or funded in the last two. The terms say Anthropic decides eligibility in its sole discretion and can modify or suspend the program.
