Amkor Technology reported record revenue in its Computing end market for the third quarter of 2026, its results release of 26 October 2026 shows. Computing, which Amkor defines as data center, infrastructure, PC/laptop and storage, rose to 26% of net sales from 19% a year earlier, while Communications fell to 37% from 51%.
Total net sales were $1.99 billion, flat on a year earlier, and gross margin rose to 18.3% from 14.3%. Amkor, the largest US-headquartered outsourced semiconductor packaging and test company, said full-year 2026 capital expenditures are now expected to be approximately $2.5 billion.
Business Pill · OPERATING LEVERAGE
A short Business Engineer explainer on operating leverage: why margins can move faster than sales. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about Amkor.
The key insight: As we read it, Amkor’s quarter is a mix shift more than a growth story: net sales were flat on a year earlier at $1.99 billion, while Computing rose to 26% of sales from 19% and gross margin rose to 18.3% from 14.3%.
What Amkor Reported
Net sales were $1,991 million in the quarter, against $1,898 million in the second quarter and $1,987 million a year earlier. Operating income was $225 million, an 11.3% margin, and net income attributable to Amkor was $191 million, or $0.76 per diluted share, up from $0.51.
“Amkor delivered a strong quarter, with record revenue in Computing and Automotive & Industrial end markets and continued margin expansion, despite expected weakness in Communications,” said Kevin Engel, Amkor’s president and chief executive officer.
| End market | Year earlier | Prior quarter | Latest quarter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Communications (smartphones, tablets) | 51% | 42% | 37% |
| Computing (data center, infrastructure, PC/laptop, storage) | 19% | 22% | 26% |
| Automotive, industrial and other | 16% | 22% | 22% |
| Consumer | 14% | 14% | 15% |

By our arithmetic from those shares, Computing revenue was about $518 million in the quarter, up from about $378 million a year earlier, a rise of roughly 37%. Communications revenue was about $737 million, down from about $1,013 million.

What Was Posted on X
Wall St Engine’s results tally put Amkor’s Q3 revenue of $1.99 billion against an estimate of $2.01 billion, and its fourth-quarter revenue guide of $1.9 billion to $2.0 billion against an estimate of $2.02 billion; the post does not name the source of the estimates.
Where the Money Is Going
Amkor said full-year 2026 capital expenditures are “updated to approximately $2.5 billion.” Its cash flow statement shows $1.24 billion of payments for property, plant and equipment in the first nine months of 2026, against $473 million a year earlier, and capital expenditures payable of $496 million at 30 September.
Long-term debt rose to $2.32 billion from $1.28 billion at the end of 2025, after $1.15 billion of new borrowing in the nine months. Cash and short-term investments were $2.4 billion and total debt $2.5 billion. Engel said the company is “benefiting from expanding customer commitments that improve visibility and support disciplined investment to meet future demand.”
The Guidance
For the fourth quarter of 2026, Amkor guided to net sales of $1.9 billion to $2.0 billion, a gross margin of 18.0% to 19.0%, and net income of $160 million to $185 million, or $0.65 to $0.75 per diluted share. Advanced products, which include flip chip, memory and wafer-level processing, were $1,632 million of third-quarter sales, and the top ten customers accounted for 66%.
Connecting the Coverage
Earlier on 26 October we reported that TSMC is said to prepare CoWoS price rises of up to 20%, from Taiwan’s Commercial Times. On the same day we covered how Nvidia faces a packaging squeeze. We also reported that Nvidia advanced $1.1B to KYEC for new US chip test sites.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the spending is moving faster than the sales: Amkor’s nine-month payments for property, plant and equipment were $1.24 billion against $473 million a year earlier, and it now expects approximately $2.5 billion of capital expenditures for 2026.
As we read it, the financing tells the same story: long-term debt rose to $2.32 billion from $1.28 billion at the end of 2025, and the chief executive tied investment to “expanding customer commitments that improve visibility.”
As we read it, the AI link is implied rather than stated: the release defines Computing as data center, infrastructure, PC/laptop and storage, and does not break out revenue from AI or from advanced packaging for AI accelerators.

FOR CHIP BUYERS Advanced products, which include flip chip, memory and wafer-level processing, were $1,632 million of Amkor’s $1,991 million of third-quarter sales.
FOR THE SUPPLY CHAIN Amkor’s top ten customers accounted for 66% of net sales, down from 73% a year earlier.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map & The State of AI Hyperscalers.
The framework puts it this way: the “seven-layer AI stack is now governed from the bottom”.
As we read it, a packaging and test supplier lifting its capital spending to approximately $2.5 billion while its sales are flat sits at that bottom of the stack. The framework was published in May 2026 and does not discuss Amkor’s results.
What Is Not Established
The release does not break out revenue from AI or from advanced packaging for AI accelerators, and it does not name customers or the Arizona facility. The Computing revenue figures in dollars are our arithmetic from Amkor’s percentage shares. Amkor scheduled a conference call for 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on 26 October and said the call may include material information not in the release.
The Bottom Line
Amkor reported record Computing revenue in the third quarter of 2026, with Computing rising to 26% of its $1.99 billion of net sales from 19% a year earlier, while Communications fell to 37%. It updated full-year 2026 capital expenditures to approximately $2.5 billion and guided fourth-quarter net sales to $1.9 billion to $2.0 billion.
