Trump Offers Press Job to Meta Board Member Dana White

President Donald Trump said on Saturday, November 7, that he had offered the job of White House press secretary to UFC chief executive Dana White, the Associated Press reported. White has sat on the board of directors of Meta Platforms since December 30, 2024, according to Meta’s filing announcing the election. White said he planned to fly to Washington and meet Trump on Monday, the AP reported.

White received $1,723,000 for serving on Meta’s board in 2025, $1,654,895 of it in stock awards, according to Meta’s 2026 proxy statement. By our arithmetic, 96% of that pay came in stock. Meta shareholders re-elected White on May 27, 2026, and by our arithmetic 91.4% of the votes for or withheld on his seat were votes for, per Meta’s results filing.

Business Pill · Distribution Advantage

A short Business Engineer explainer on distribution as a competitive advantage. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Meta or Dana White.

The key insight: President Trump said on 7 November that he offered the White House press secretary job to UFC chief executive Dana White, who has sat on Meta Platforms’ board since December 30, 2024, according to Meta’s filings. White said he would meet Trump on Monday, the AP reported, while CNN cited a source saying White declined. White received $1,723,000 as a Meta director in 2025, and by our arithmetic 96% of it came in stock awards.

What Trump and White Said

Trump posted on Truth Social: “I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States”, CNN reported. Trump added: “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”

White, in London on Saturday for a boxing event, said at a news conference that he planned to fly to Washington right after and meet Trump on Monday, the AP reported. Asked how he would balance the job with his current positions, White said: “Yeah, I got a lot of jobs already”. White declined to say what conversations he had had with Trump but said: “I’m sure I’ll have more to talk about after that”.

The accounts differ. CNN, citing a source familiar with the matter, reported that White declined the offer, and that one aide said Trump was joking. White House communications director Steven Cheung reposted the president’s message, adding “Hell yeah! Do it, @DanaWhite!”, CNN reported. The BBC carried White telling a reporter he was flying to Washington.

A post by @liquidtrading at 01:41 UTC on 8 November relaying that Dana White said White was flying to Washington about the press secretary job. The AP reported that White, at a news conference in London, said the plan was to fly to Washington and meet Trump on Monday; CNN cited a source saying White declined the offer.

Why the Job Is Open

The post has been vacant since Karoline Leavitt left at the end of August, apart from Katie Zacharia’s five days in the job, the AP reported. On Friday, Trump announced he was replacing chief of staff Susie Wiles with aide Stephen Miller, the AP reported. The AP said the White House is in a period of major transition after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

White’s Seat on Meta’s Board

Meta’s board elected White, John Elkann and Charles Songhurst on December 30, 2024, and determined that each qualifies as an independent director, Meta’s filing states. The 2026 proxy lists White on the Risk & Strategy Committee, chaired by Songhurst, with Marc Andreessen and John Arnold. The proxy says the committee reviews strategic initiatives “including with respect to technology, product development, asset utilization, assessment of strategic partnerships and new or existing lines of business”.

The proxy says White’s “expertise in digital content distribution and building brands” gives Meta’s board relevant insights. It lists $68,105 in cash fees and $1,654,895 in stock awards for 2025. White’s unvested stock units vest “so long as Mr. White is a member of our board of directors”, the proxy states. At the May 27 meeting, 4,542,071,550 votes were cast for White and 426,605,536 were withheld, Meta reported.

Meta in Washington

Meta reported $5.88 million of in-house federal lobbying expenses in the third quarter of 2026, against $5.84 million a year earlier, as our earlier piece on Meta’s lobbying and new Democratic aides showed from its LD-2 filings. Meta’s data center spending is covered in our pieces on the $750 billion of 2026 hyperscaler capex and Jefferies on whether that capex has peaked. The Structural Read

As we read the AP and CNN reports, the offer is public but its outcome is not: the AP reports a Monday meeting, and CNN reports a source saying White declined.

As we read Meta’s proxy, White sits on the Risk & Strategy Committee, which the proxy says reviews strategic initiatives including technology and product development.

As we read Meta’s filings, White’s board pay is mostly in stock units that vest only while White remains a director.

Three Implications

FOR META Meta’s filings list White as an independent director on its Risk & Strategy Committee, re-elected on May 27, 2026.

FOR THE WHITE HOUSE The AP reports the press secretary post has been vacant since Karoline Leavitt left at the end of August.

FOR THE NUMBERS TO WATCH Meta’s 2026 proxy lists $68,105 in cash fees and $1,654,895 in stock awards for White’s 2025 board service.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Supercycle.

The essay says “The supercycle has a ceiling now, and the ceiling is political.”

As we read it, a Meta director in talks about the White House press job is one more point where one of AI’s largest spenders and Washington meet. The essay does not discuss Meta or Dana White.

What Is Not Established

It is not established whether White will take the job: the AP reports a Monday meeting, while CNN reports a source saying White declined. The AP, CNN and BBC reports we read do not mention White’s Meta board seat, and none of Meta’s filings we read addresses outside government roles for directors. The White House and a UFC spokesperson did not respond to messages on Saturday, the AP reported.

The Bottom Line

Trump said he offered the White House press secretary job to Dana White, the UFC chief executive and a Meta Platforms director since December 2024. White said he would meet Trump on Monday, the AP reported, while CNN cited a source saying White declined. White received $1,723,000 as a Meta director in 2025, 96% of it in stock by our arithmetic, and, by our arithmetic, 91.4% of for-and-withheld votes on his seat were for at his re-election in May.

A note on sourcing. Trump’s and White’s remarks and the background on the press secretary post are from the Associated Press (as published by NPR), CNN and the BBC, which we read in full. White’s board election, committee, pay and re-election vote are from Meta Platforms’ own SEC filings. The 96% and 91.4% figures are our arithmetic. The lobbying figure is from our earlier reporting on Meta’s LD-2 filings.
