Anthropic Said to Press On With $1.5T Pre-Thanksgiving IPO

Anthropic is pressing ahead with plans to list before the Thanksgiving holiday this month, the Financial Times reported on 6 November under the headline “Anthropic to press ahead with IPO targeting $1.5tn valuation”. Techmeme’s summary of the report, citing sources, put the raise at $80 billion to $100 billion and the valuation at $1.25 trillion to $1.75 trillion. Within the same hour, CNBC reported investors calling $1.5 trillion a “stretch”. We could not read the FT article itself.

By our arithmetic, the $1.5 trillion target is 20% above the $1.25 trillion midpoint of the $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion that investors were said to be discussing earlier on 6 November. A raise of $80 billion to $100 billion would be 5.3% to 6.7% of $1.5 trillion, and 4.6% to 8.0% across the full reported range. Thanksgiving falls on Thursday 26 November, 20 days after the report. No price range has been published.

A short explainer on financial conditions, how the price and availability of money move markets. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss this story.

The key insight: As we read it, the FT headline figure of $1.5 trillion sits 20% above the $1.25 trillion midpoint of the range investors were said to be discussing earlier on 6 November, by our arithmetic, while CNBC reported investors in the same hour calling $1.5 trillion a “stretch”. No price range has been published.

What Was Reported

The Techmeme summary reads: “Sources: Anthropic is continuing with plans to list before the Thanksgiving holiday this month, expecting to raise $80B-$100B at a valuation of $1.25T to $1.75T (Financial Times)”. Accounts relaying the FT report on X from 21:06 UTC described it as Anthropic pressing ahead with the IPO, several citing a roughly $1.5 trillion valuation, the midpoint of the reported range.

The FT article body was behind a security page when we tried to read it, so the wording above comes from Techmeme’s summary and the relays, not from the FT text. We did not see who the sources are or whether Anthropic commented to the FT.

Anthropic valuation figures reported on 6 November 2026: the Financial Times range of $1.25 trillion to $1.75 trillion (as summarised by Techmeme) and the $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion investors were discussing per a Bloomberg headline relayed on X, against the $965 billion Series H post-money valuation in Anthropic’s 28 May 2026 release. The post’s own caption reads “Sequoia’s investment committee”; the FT excerpt does not name Sequoia or the person. The post had about 98,500 views when we read it at 06:58 UTC on 7 November.

The Other Reports Today

Earlier on 6 November, a Bloomberg headline relayed on X said investors were discussing a value of $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion, which we covered in investors discuss a $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion Anthropic IPO value after the rout. The FT range starts at $1.25 trillion, inside that band, and its $1.5 trillion midpoint is 20% above the $1.25 trillion midpoint, by our arithmetic.

CNBC reported that “stakeholders told CNBC that even $1.5 trillion is now in doubt, with one investor calling that number a “stretch.””

CNBC also reported that one investor said “$1 trillion to $1.25 trillion is a more likely valuation target, although that could change with market conditions”. It added: “The company is expected to kick off its roadshow next week.”

Reuters, citing four people familiar with the matter, reported that the roadshow “was originally scheduled to start in the week of November 9, with pricing arrangements to take place the following week”, according to ChainCatcher’s republication, and that Anthropic may delay its IPO if AI-related assets remain under pressure. “Anthropic declined to comment”, according to the same text.

The Numbers Against the Last Round

Anthropic’s release of 28 May 2026 says it “raises $65B in Series H funding at $965B post-money valuation”. The FT range would put the IPO 29.5% to 81.3% above that $965 billion mark, by our arithmetic. The reported $80 billion to $100 billion raise is 1.2 to 1.5 times the $65 billion Series H.

Connecting the Coverage

The prediction-market read is in traders cut November Anthropic IPO odds to 54% from 86.5% and, after the FT report, Anthropic November IPO odds jump to 76% after FT report. The filing figures behind the valuation debate are in Anthropic’s S-1 shows an 85.5% gross margin, up from 29.4% a year ago and Anthropic’s run rate tops $80 billion as its IPO raise may shrink to $80 billion.

The Structural Read

As we read the FT report as summarised and relayed, the news is the timetable: Anthropic is said to be pressing ahead before Thanksgiving, which falls 20 days after the report.

As we read CNBC, the counterpoint is about price, not timing: one investor named $1 trillion to $1.25 trillion as the more likely target.

As we read the figures together, every number reported today still sits above the $965 billion May round; the gap between the reports is how far above.

Three Implications

FOR ANTHROPIC The FT reported it is pressing ahead with plans to list before Thanksgiving; Reuters reported that Anthropic declined to comment.

FOR PROSPECTIVE IPO INVESTORS CNBC reported that one investor sees $1 trillion to $1.25 trillion as a more likely valuation target, which could change with market conditions.

FOR SERIES H INVESTORS They invested at a $965 billion post-money valuation, per Anthropic’s release; every figure reported today is above that mark.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Supercycle.

The analysis says: “Conflating these clocks produces the most common analytical errors of the moment.”

As we read it, today’s two reports run on different clocks: the FT on the listing timetable, CNBC on what investors will pay this month. The analysis does not discuss Anthropic’s IPO or these figures.

Update, 6 Nov, 21:37 UTC: a valuation range, not a single number. A relay of the Financial Times report by Walter Bloomberg on X at 21:23 UTC gives a range rather than a single figure: “ANTHROPIC PLANS NOVEMBER IPO RAISING $80B-$100B AT $1.25T-$1.75T VALUATION: FT”. We have not read the FT article itself, so the range is reported here as relayed.

By our arithmetic, $1.5 trillion, the figure in the FT headline and in this piece’s headline, is the midpoint of that $1.25 trillion to $1.75 trillion range, and an $80 billion to $100 billion raise would be about 4.6% to 8.0% of the company across the range. The low end of the range matches the $1.25 trillion midpoint of the $1.2 trillion to $1.3 trillion talk reported earlier on Friday.

Update, 6 Nov, 22:38 UTC: the FT says well below $2 trillion. In a post on X at 22:07 UTC, the FT said Anthropic “is prepared to accept a valuation well below the $2tn that its most bullish investors had hoped for.” Against $2 trillion, the reported $1.25 trillion to $1.75 trillion range is 12.5% to 37.5% lower, by our arithmetic.

Separately, The Information reported in a headline at 21:56 UTC that Anthropic will proceed with its IPO roadshow next week; we read the headline, not the paywalled article. Anthropic’s latest filing, an S-1/A from 2 November, still leaves the price range blank. We cover that report in Anthropic Said to Start IPO Roadshow Next Week; No Price Yet.

Update, 6 Nov, 22:54 UTC: an early backer’s view, quoted by the FT. An excerpt of the Financial Times article shared on X at 22:42 UTC quotes one unnamed early Anthropic backer: “It’s just one milestone along the way. They should treat it like every other fundraise: a means to an end.” The FT says the person added: “If [public market investors] are not seeing the narrative at this point, they are failing a basic IQ test. The next Google is dancing naked in front of you. If you can’t see the value of it, you don’t deserve to make money.” The brackets are the FT’s. We quote from the excerpt; we have not read the full FT article, and the backer is not named.

What Is Not Established

The FT’s sources and its full text are not in what we could read. Anthropic has not published a price range, an offering size or a pricing date. The reports conflict on valuation: the FT range runs to $1.75 trillion, while CNBC quoted one investor at $1 trillion to $1.25 trillion. The percentages, the 20 days and the comparisons are our arithmetic. We did not contact Anthropic.
