SpaceX’s quarterly report for the three months ended September 30, 2026 puts capital expenditures in its SI segment, the AI business, at $16,444 million out of $19,593 million for the whole company: about 84%, by our arithmetic. SI revenue was $7,560 million, against $813 million a year earlier, about 9.3 times as much.
This follows our piece on the one AI customer that made up 34.5% of SpaceX’s Q3 revenue. Below are the other segment figures from the same filing, the compute terms in SpaceX’s S-1, and one number from our own jobs tracker.

An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on neoclouds, companies that rent out AI compute. It explains the general idea only and does not discuss SpaceX or its filings.
The key insight: As we read the 10-Q, SpaceX’s capital spending now runs mostly through its AI segment: $16,444 million of $19,593 million in the quarter, while that segment’s revenue rose from $813 million to $7,560 million.
The Numbers From the Filing

Revenue. The 10-Q puts SI revenue at $7,560 million for the quarter, out of $14,575 million for the company. That is about 52% of the total, by our arithmetic. A year earlier SI contributed $813 million of $5,576 million.
Operating income. SI reported income from operations of $431 million for the quarter, against a loss of $1,722 million a year earlier. The company-wide net income of $4,404 million includes the other segments and items below operating income, such as $873 million of interest income and $1,025 million of other income.
Capital spending. SI capital expenditures were $16,444 million of the company’s $19,593 million in the quarter. A year earlier, SI capital expenditures were $4,760 million.
One customer. The 10-Q says Customer B accounted for 34.5% of consolidated revenue in the quarter and that “revenue from Customer B relates to the SI segment.” It does not name the customer. 34.5% of $14,575 million is about $5.0 billion, by our arithmetic.
The Anthropic contract. SpaceX’s S-1 says that in May 2026 it entered into Cloud Services Agreements with Anthropic, under which “the customer has agreed to pay us $1.25 billion per month through May 2029, with capacity ramping in May and June 2026 at a reduced fee.” It adds: “The agreements may be terminated by either party upon 90 days’ notice.”

The Number Only We Track
Our AI jobs tracker reads xAI’s careers feed every day. On 28 October 2026 it listed 308 open roles, 75 of them posted in the previous 30 days, and 7.1% of them remote.
By function, the tracker counted 166 roles in engineering, 54 in finance and operations, 9 in sales and go-to-market, 2 in product and design, 1 in research and 76 in other functions. Engineering is about 54% of the open roles, by our arithmetic.
The tracker reads xAI’s board, not SpaceX’s. SpaceX’s S-1 describes Grok 5 as one of its proprietary AI applications, trained at its COLOSSUS II cluster.
Connecting the Coverage
The customer-concentration figure that started this thread is in One AI customer made up 34.5% of SpaceX’s Q3 revenue. The full quarter, including Starlink, is in SpaceX Q3 revenue jumps 161% to $14.6B on AI and Starlink.
How SpaceX is paying for its chips is in SpaceX’s $40B GPU deal is a 5-year Apollo finance lease, and why the often-quoted $45 billion Anthropic total is a ceiling is in Number Check: the $45B Anthropic deal and 7 more AI figures.

The Structural Read
As we read it, the segment table shows the AI unit moving from a $1,722 million operating loss a year earlier to $431 million of income from operations, on about 9.3 times the revenue.
The 10-Q ties a third of the company’s revenue to one SI customer: Customer B accounted for 34.5% of consolidated revenue, about $5.0 billion by our arithmetic, and the filing does not name it.
The S-1 describes the Anthropic agreements as monetising unused compute capacity, at $1.25 billion a month through May 2029, terminable by either party on 90 days’ notice.
SpaceX, Form S-1
“The agreements may be terminated by either party upon 90 days’ notice.”
Three Implications
FOR SPACEX INVESTORS The 10-Q shows the AI segment taking about 84% of quarterly capital expenditures, by our arithmetic, and reporting $431 million of income from operations.
FOR AI COMPUTE BUYERS The S-1 shows a compute customer paying $1.25 billion a month under agreements either party can end on 90 days’ notice.
FOR PEOPLE WATCHING HIRING Our tracker counted 308 open roles on xAI’s careers board on 28 October 2026, 166 of them in engineering; the 10-Q does not report open roles.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map.
The framework puts the cycle this way: “The $1T capex cycle is being underwritten by a $1T concentrated demand commitment from two counterparties whose combined free cash flow is deeply negative.”
SpaceX’s 10-Q shows a smaller version of the concentration it describes: one SI customer, Customer B, accounted for 34.5% of the company’s quarterly revenue. The framework was published before the 10-Q and does not discuss SpaceX’s figures.
What Is Not Established
The 10-Q does not name Customer B, and the S-1 does not say whether Anthropic is that customer. Our tracker counts job listings on xAI’s careers board, not hires or headcount, and it does not show which of those roles sit in SpaceX’s SI segment.
Segment income from operations is before interest, other income and taxes, so it is not the segment’s net profit. We did not contact SpaceX.
The Bottom Line
SpaceX’s 10-Q shows its SI segment with $7,560 million of revenue, $431 million of income from operations and $16,444 million of capital expenditures in the quarter to September 30, 2026, about 84% of the company’s capital spending. One SI customer, Customer B, accounted for 34.5% of consolidated revenue. Our tracker counted 308 open roles on xAI’s careers board on 28 October 2026.

A note on sourcing. Financial figures come from SpaceX’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended 30 September 2026 and its Form S-1. Open-role counts come from the FourWeekMBA AI jobs tracker, which reads xAI’s own careers feed daily; the counts are job listings, not hires. Percentages and multiples are our arithmetic.
