OpenAI’s Bet: Charge for the Black Box

OpenAI’s business model is built on deliberate opacity. ChatGPT’s transformer architecture — the attention mechanisms, the RLHF training loops, the inference pipeline — is intentionally abstracted away from the end user. You don’t need to understand how it works. You pay for the output.
