Microsoft Stops Reporting LinkedIn’s $19.8B Revenue Line

Microsoft’s Form 10-Q filed on 28 October 2026 is its first quarterly report without a LinkedIn revenue line, a business Microsoft’s 2026 annual report put at $19.8 billion for the fiscal year. On the earnings call the same day, chief executive Satya Nadella gave an agent figure instead: “25,000 customers are using our agentic hiring solutions”.

By our arithmetic, that is about 25% more than the “over 20,000 companies” Microsoft cited in July, though the two quarters described the measure in different words.

Business Pill · Distribution Advantage

An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on distribution advantage. It explains the general idea only and does not discuss Microsoft or LinkedIn.

The key insight: Microsoft’s 28 October 10-Q no longer carries a LinkedIn revenue line for a business that had $19.8 billion of revenue in fiscal 2026; on the call the same day, the LinkedIn figures Microsoft gave were members, Feed time and 25,000 customers on its agentic hiring solutions.

What Changed in Microsoft’s Reporting

Microsoft announced the change in a recast of its segments filed on 2 September 2026. That filing said “LinkedIn was previously reported as a standalone unit in the Productivity and Business Processes segment. LinkedIn Talent Solutions and Sales Solutions will now be reported in the Industry solutions cloud revenue growth metric. LinkedIn Marketing Solutions and Premium Subscriptions will now be reported in the Search and advertising revenue (ex TAC) growth metric”.

The new 10-Q lists revenue for Azure, Microsoft 365 cloud, Search and advertising, XBOX, Industry solutions and three other lines. LinkedIn is not among them.

The 10-Q says “Industry solutions cloud revenue increased 10% with growth in Dynamics 365 and LinkedIn Talent Solutions”, and that search and advertising revenue excluding traffic acquisition costs “increased 12% driven by higher rate and volume across LinkedIn, Edge, and Bing”. Neither line gives a LinkedIn figure.

The same 2 September filing repeated the outlook Microsoft gave on 29 July for this quarter, which included “LinkedIn revenue Growth in high-single digits”. The 10-Q does not report a LinkedIn growth rate to compare with it.

LinkedIn revenue by quarter as reported by Microsoft, September 2024 to June 2026 quarters, $ billions, and the September 2026 quarter, for which Microsoft gave no LinkedIn revenue figure. Sources: Microsoft 8-K Exhibit 99.1 (2 Sep 2026), 10-Q (28 Oct 2026), earnings call.

Eight Quarters of LinkedIn Revenue

Microsoft’s restated tables put LinkedIn revenue at $4.29 billion, $4.59 billion, $4.31 billion and $4.62 billion in the four quarters of fiscal 2025, and $4.71 billion, $5.08 billion, $4.83 billion and $5.19 billion in the four quarters of fiscal 2026.

For the full fiscal year to June 2026, Microsoft’s 10-K said “LinkedIn revenue increased $2.0 billion or 11% with growth across all lines of business”, to $19.8 billion from $17.8 billion.

The Hiring Agent Figures Microsoft Gave Instead

On the 28 October call, Nadella said “In recruiting, more than 10 million LinkedIn members use our LinkedIn AI-powered job search daily, and 25,000 customers are using our agentic hiring solutions”. He added that “Recruiters using Hiring Assistant are finding interview-quality applicants 33 percent faster, while reviewing 83 percent fewer profiles to find a qualified match”.

Earlier calls give the trail. In April, Nadella said LinkedIn’s agentic products in Talent Solutions “have already surpassed a $450 million annualized revenue run-rate”. In July he said “Recruiters at over 20,000 companies are now using our AI-powered solutions to reduce time to hire and improve candidate matching. Seats increased 140% quarter-over-quarter”.

By our arithmetic, a recruiter who would have reviewed 100 profiles reviews about 17 with Hiring Assistant, roughly one-sixth as many, on Microsoft’s 83% figure. The 25% rise from July counts “over 20,000” as 20,000, so it is an upper bound.

Membership is still reported. Nadella said LinkedIn had “nearly 1.3 billion members” in October 2025, “1.3 billion members” in April 2026 and “more than 1.4 billion members” on this call, “with time spent viewing content in the Feed up over 15 percent year over year”.

FDE Teams in Science, Agents in Healthcare

Nadella also said “in Science, our FDE teams are working with customers to use Discovery to accelerate scientific progress”, citing Saint Gobain, “which used Discovery to accelerate the development of low-carbon construction materials”.

Microsoft named Discovery customers on its January, July and October calls. In January Nadella said “companies like Unilever in consumer goods and Synopsys in EDA are using Microsoft Discovery to orchestrate specialized agents for R&D end to end”. In July he said Discovery was “now broadly available” and that “our FDE teams worked with Novo Nordisk to build an agent that helps analyze clinical data while meeting its strict compliance requirements”.

In healthcare, Nadella said “we automated 30 million patient encounters this quarter, up 70 percent year over year”. A year earlier he had said Microsoft helped “document over 17 million patient encounters”. By our arithmetic, 30 million after 70% growth implies about 17.6 million a year earlier, consistent with that figure.

Connecting the Coverage

For the rest of the quarter, Microsoft’s Azure grew 48% as free cash flow fell to $18.6 billion, and the same segment recast gave Azure its own revenue line. The consumer side is in Microsoft’s consumer revenue falling 3%, and the whole picture in how Microsoft makes money now.

Earlier, AWS put $1 billion behind forward-deployed engineers and Metaview raised $110 million for agentic recruiting. The full Business Engineer read of the night is Alphabet & Microsoft on the Map of AI.

The Structural Read

As we read the filings, the reporting change moves LinkedIn from its own revenue line into two growth metrics it shares with Dynamics 365, healthcare cloud, Bing and Edge, so the filings no longer show LinkedIn’s revenue on its own.

Microsoft’s agent-related LinkedIn figures on recent calls were an annualized revenue run-rate above $450 million for agentic products in Talent Solutions in April, recruiters at over 20,000 companies using “AI-powered solutions” in July, and 25,000 customers using “agentic hiring solutions” in October.

As we read the call, Microsoft described science and healthcare with usage figures as well: FDE teams working with Discovery customers, and 30 million automated patient encounters in the quarter.

Three Implications

FOR INVESTORS Microsoft’s filings no longer give a LinkedIn revenue figure; the 10-Q places LinkedIn Talent and Sales Solutions in Industry solutions cloud and its Marketing Solutions and Premium Subscriptions in Search and advertising.

FOR RECRUITERS Microsoft says recruiters using Hiring Assistant find interview-quality applicants 33% faster while reviewing 83% fewer profiles; it did not say how it measured either figure.

FOR AI SERVICES Microsoft says its FDE teams work with customers on Discovery, naming Novo Nordisk in July and Saint Gobain in October.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework Forward-Deployed Engineering.

The framework says the rise of forward-deployed engineering shows that “technical capability has far outpaced organizational readiness”.

Microsoft’s calls tie its FDE teams to Discovery customers, naming Novo Nordisk in July and Saint Gobain in October. The framework does not discuss Microsoft, LinkedIn or Discovery.

What Is Not Established

Microsoft no longer gives LinkedIn revenue, so the quarter’s LinkedIn sales and growth are not known from its filings. The 25,000 figure counts customers using agentic hiring solutions; it is not revenue, and the $450 million run-rate was April’s and has not been updated.

July’s figure counted companies using “AI-powered solutions” and October’s counts customers using “agentic hiring solutions”, so the two may not measure the same thing. Microsoft did not say how it measured the 33% and 83% figures.

The transcript uses the abbreviation FDE without spelling it out, and Microsoft did not say how many FDE teams there are or how many customers they work with.
