Figma Gave Up to 2x AI Credits at Same Price; Shares Fell 7%

Figma’s help center says its AI credit add-ons have included “2x more credits on the Professional plan, and 1.6x more credits on the Organization and Enterprise plans” since 25 August 2026, at the same subscription and pay-as-you-go cost. That cut the price per credit by 50% and 37.5%, by our arithmetic.

Figma shares fell 7% in extended trading on 4 November after third-quarter results that beat estimates, CNBC reported. Its finance chief told CNBC the company is potentially “trading off near-term revenue” to invest in customers.

Business Pill · Usage-Based Pricing

A one-minute explainer of usage-based pricing: charging for what customers consume rather than for seats. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Figma.

The key insight: Since 25 August, Figma’s paid AI credit add-ons have carried 2x more credits on the Professional plan and 1.6x more on Organization and Enterprise at the same cost, per its help center, a 50% and 37.5% cut in the price per credit by our arithmetic; its CFO told CNBC the company is potentially trading off near-term revenue, and the shares fell 7% in extended trading after its results.

What Figma’s FAQ Says

The FAQ, titled AI credit updates, says Figma “updated our AI credit add-ons to include more credits for the same cost. This change went into effect on August 25, 2026.” Existing subscriptions and pay-as-you-go billing updated automatically.

It says seat credits, the monthly allocation included with every seat, “aren’t changing as part of this update”. The extra credits apply to the paid add-ons that admins buy on top of seats.

The same page says the agent in Figma Design and Weave tools moved from open beta to general availability on 6 October 2026, and “now consume Figma AI credits”. It says usage during the beta period “didn’t consume any AI credits”.

What Figma’s CFO Told CNBC

CNBC reported that during the quarter Figma started giving more AI credits to clients while maintaining prices. Praveer Melwani, Figma’s finance chief, told CNBC: “What that means is you’re potentially trading off near-term revenue, investing in your customers, and then allowing yourself to then grow durably over the long term.”

CNBC also reported that Figma expects fourth-quarter revenue growth to slow to about 33%, and that the shares had fallen about 41% so far in 2026.

Sizing the Credit Change

Twice the credits for the same cost means each credit costs half as much, a 50% cut on the Professional plan. At 1.6 times the credits, each credit costs 62.5% of its old price on the Organization and Enterprise plans, a 37.5% cut. Both figures are our arithmetic from the FAQ.

The FAQ does not give credit prices in dollars; it says current pricing is shown in each customer’s admin dashboard. Our earlier piece found, from Figma’s 10-Q, that technical infrastructure and hosting costs rose $52.8 million year over year, about 45% of the revenue Figma added, by our arithmetic.

Figma shares were at $21.30 in pre-market trading at 5:45 a.m. New York time on 5 November, down 3.75% from the 4 November close of $22.13, according to Nasdaq’s pre-market quote, on volume of about 41,500 shares.

The Structural Read

As we read the FAQ, Figma moved two levers at once: more credits per dollar on the add-ons in August, and new features that began drawing on the same credits in October, when the agent in Figma Design and Weave tools reached general availability.

As we read the CFO’s comments to CNBC, the extra credits are presented as an investment in customer usage, with near-term revenue as the cost, rather than as a price war.

As we read the figures together with our earlier piece, the cost side was already rising, with hosting costs up $52.8 million year over year, while the price per credit was cut; the FAQ does not say how many credits customers consume.

Praveer Melwani, Figma CFO, to CNBC, 4 November 2026

“What that means is you’re potentially trading off near-term revenue, investing in your customers, and then allowing yourself to then grow durably over the long term.”

Three Implications

FOR CUSTOMERS The FAQ says existing subscriptions and pay-as-you-go billing received the new credit amounts automatically, while the seat credits included with every seat did not change.

FOR USAGE The FAQ says the agent in Figma Design and Weave tools moved to general availability on 6 October 2026 and now consume Figma AI credits; usage during the beta period consumed none.

FOR REVENUE CNBC reported that Figma expects fourth-quarter revenue growth to slow to about 33%.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Subsidized AGI Economy.

The framework says: “The subscription price is locked. The cost of delivering it is collapsing.”

As we read it, Figma’s credit change is a version of that trade at an application company: the add-on price stayed the same while the same price bought more AI credits. The framework is about the AI labs, predates Figma’s results and does not discuss Figma.

What Is Not Established

The FAQ gives the credit multiples but not dollar prices, so how much revenue the change gave up is not stated in what we read. CNBC reported the 7% fall in extended trading; the reports we read do not attribute it to the credit change. The 50% and 37.5% cuts are our arithmetic and apply to the paid add-ons, not to seat credits.
