ASML reported third-quarter 2026 total net sales of €11.66 billion and a gross margin of 57.5% on 14 October 2026, according to its quarterly press release. By our arithmetic, net sales were inside the €11 billion to €12 billion range it guided in July, and gross margin above the top of the 55% to 57% range.
For the fourth quarter, ASML guided total net sales of €14.2 billion to €15.2 billion and a gross margin around 57%.
The Numbers
Net income was €4,960 million and basic earnings per share €12.95, the release said.
Of total net sales, Installed Base Management, ASML’s service and field-option business, was €3,289 million, against €2,762 million in the second quarter.
ASML sold 113 new lithography systems in the quarter, against 86 in the second quarter, according to the release.

Business Pill · CRITICAL PATH
The key insight: As we read it, ASML’s sales and its own outlook are among the earliest readings of how much chipmaking capacity its customers are paying for.

Against Its Own Guidance
In July ASML guided third-quarter total net sales of €11 billion to €12 billion. By our arithmetic, the reported €11.66 billion is €0.34 billion below the top of the range.
Gross margin of 57.5% compares with 54.0% in the second quarter, which ASML reported in July.
The Full-Year Outlook
ASML now expects 2026 total net sales of €44 billion to €45 billion with a gross margin around 56%, the release said; in July it had guided €43 billion to €45 billion and 54% to 56%.
“With such strong visibility and an order book momentum that continues to increase quarter on quarter this year, we now expect that our supply as currently planned for both 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet the demand of our customers,” said ASML President and Chief Executive Officer Christophe Fouquet, according to the release.
The Structural Read
As we read it, chipmakers buy ASML’s lithography systems ahead of the chips those tools will make, so its order of events runs ahead of theirs.
Its full-year outlook of €44 billion to €45 billion is ASML’s own figure, from the release.
Installed Base Management sales of €3,289 million, service and upgrades on machines already in the field, compare with €2,762 million in the second quarter.

Three Implications
CHIPMAKERS As we read it, the 113 new systems ASML says it sold are capacity its customers are adding; the release does not break them out by customer.
AI CHIP BUYERS ASML said its customers keep raising their short- and medium-term equipment demand forecasts, driven primarily by their views on the size and duration of AI-related investments; as we read it, its outlook is an early read on that capacity.
INVESTORS ASML’s own guided range is the benchmark it set; the comparison above is our arithmetic on its figures.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map.
The framework puts it this way: “The total cycle: $725B Big Four + $50B Oracle + $13B Apple + $60B Neoclouds + $80B China + $60B Sovereigns + $48B Other = ~$1.04 trillion in 2026 compute capex, the first trillion-dollar year of compute capex in human history.”
As we read it, a quarter like this one is the supply side of that demand: what the cycle’s spending turns into at the chip and tool makers.
