OpenAI said on 7 October 2026 that it is bringing GPT-6 to ChatGPT’s Chat experience for the more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT each week. The rollout starts today for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers and expands to the Free and Go tiers starting tomorrow, according to its post.
Paid tiers get GPT-6 Sol and the Free and Go tiers get GPT-6 Luna, OpenAI says. OpenAI says the release also introduces Intelligent UI, which lets ChatGPT answer with graphics, buttons, forms, charts and interactive tools inside the conversation.
Business Pill · STRUCTURED OUTPUT
A one-minute explainer of structured output: why software needs a model’s answer in a fixed form, not only as a paragraph. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about any company in this story.
The key insight: As we read it, OpenAI is splitting the new generation by model rather than by date. GPT-6 starts rolling out to every ChatGPT tier within two days, but OpenAI says paid tiers get GPT-6 Sol and the Free and Go tiers get GPT-6 Luna.
What Intelligent UI Is
OpenAI says it trained GPT-6 to compose responses from text, visuals and interactive elements, choosing how they fit together based on the question. Its examples include a recipe with the timing alongside it, road-trip stops on a map, and tools such as a savings calculator or a bill splitter built on request.
OpenAI says the format depends on the question: a comparison may work best side by side, an explanation as an interactive diagram, and when plain text is the most useful response, ChatGPT can give that instead.
Under the hood, OpenAI says it built a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that renders the interface progressively as the model generates it. It writes that there is still work ahead to improve the model’s design judgment.

Answering While Thinking
OpenAI says ChatGPT can now interleave thinking with answering, building an answer across several partial responses. For questions that need web search, it says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant.
In an internal evaluation of everyday agentic tasks, OpenAI says GPT-6 Extra High begins answering in the same amount of time as GPT-5.6 Medium while scoring better overall than GPT-5.6 Extra High.

What Is and Is Not Changing
The update applies to the Chat experience; OpenAI says the models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release. Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings, according to the post.
On safety, OpenAI says GPT-6 builds on several of Astra’s safety advances, and points to a system card for results.
Where OpenAI Says This Goes
OpenAI writes that it introduced the first GPT-6 models for paid customers last month, and that this release brings that generation to more people. It says it wants ChatGPT to create more of the interfaces people need for everyday tasks over time.
The post closes: “Instead of people adapting to software, software will adapt to people.”
The Structural Read
The interface is now part of the model’s output. OpenAI says GPT-6 was trained to choose between text, visuals and interactive elements, and that a compiler renders those components as the answer streams.
Waiting time became a design target. OpenAI says it trained the model to take into account the user’s waiting time and to build the answer across several partial responses.
The release is scoped to Chat. OpenAI says the models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of it.
Three Implications
TWO MODELS, ONE NAME OpenAI says paid tiers get GPT-6 Sol and Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna.
ANSWERS AS INTERFACES OpenAI says responses can include graphics, buttons, forms, charts and interactive tools.
A FASTER START OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner, on average, than GPT-5.6 Instant on web-search questions.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Product Overhang Doctrine.
The framework’s starting point: “They are not the same curve, and the gap between them — what the platform makes possible versus what the product surfaces — has a name.”
As we read it, Intelligent UI is work on the second curve. OpenAI describes the change as one of how answers are surfaced, through components, layout and interaction, and writes that there is still work ahead to improve the model’s design judgment.
What Is Not Established

The Bottom Line
OpenAI is rolling GPT-6 into ChatGPT’s Chat experience for its more than 1.2 billion weekly users: GPT-6 Sol for paid tiers from today and GPT-6 Luna for Free and Go from tomorrow, with what OpenAI calls Intelligent UI answers built from interactive components and, it says, web-search answers on GPT-6 Instant that start 44% sooner, on average, than on GPT-5.6 Instant.
