Louisiana’s $274B AI and LNG Pipeline: $113B Is Committed

What Was Posted on X

@thelacoast lists 19 Louisiana projects as $300+ billion in the pipeline, with its own status labels; its 19 figures sum to $315 billion. The piece checks each line against company, state and press figures; the chart above shows which ones we could source.

Louisiana’s big-project pipeline adds up to $274 billion when the lines of a viral X post are checked against company releases, state announcements and press reports, and $113.2 billion of that has a final investment decision or construction under way, by our arithmetic.

The post, by @thelacoast on 1 November, lists 19 projects under the line “$300+ Billion in the project pipeline”; its own figures sum to $315 billion. We matched 16 of them to a published figure and left three out of our total.

The key insight: Checked against company, state and press sources, the Louisiana list in @thelacoast’s viral post comes to $274.04 billion across 16 projects, and $113.2 billion of that has a final investment decision or construction under way, by our arithmetic.

What the Sources Show

AI data centres account for $81.6 billion of the sourced total. Meta is expanding its Hyperion site in Richland Parish to 5 gigawatts at a cost of more than $50 billion, Quartz reported from Meta’s July announcement; Meta broke ground in December 2024.

Amazon’s total planned data-centre investment in northwest Louisiana is $18 billion across three campuses, Louisiana Economic Development (LED) says. Hut 8’s River Bend site in West Feliciana Parish is a $10 billion project with construction already underway, and Applied Digital’s Delta Forge 1 in Rapides Parish is $3.6 billion, with site work begun in January 2026, according to LED.

SpaceX’s Starbase Louisiana in Vermilion Parish is the single largest line at $100 billion. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with first launches in 2029, the Louisiana Illuminator reported when SpaceX confirmed the site in August.

Energy and industrial projects add $92.44 billion. The largest are Venture Global’s planned $18 billion Plaquemines LNG expansion, Woodside’s $17.5 billion Louisiana LNG, Venture Global’s $15.1 billion CP2 Phase 1 project financing and the roughly $13 billion Commonwealth LNG terminal.

Sixteen of the 19 Louisiana projects in @thelacoast’s 1 November post, at the figure in company, state or press sources; solid bars have an FID or construction under way, hatched bars are planned. $274.04B total, $113.2B committed and SpaceX’s 36.5% share are our arithmetic; three lines worth $41B are excluded.

Committed Versus Planned

Seven projects worth $113.2 billion have a final investment decision or construction under way in the sources: Meta Hyperion, Hut 8, Applied Digital, Woodside, CP2 Phase 1, Commonwealth LNG and the roughly $4 billion CF Industries Blue Point ammonia plant, whose FID CF announced in 2025.

The other nine, worth $160.84 billion, are announced, proposed or waiting on a decision. SpaceX alone is $100 billion of that, or 36.5% of the sourced total. Venture Global expects the Plaquemines expansion FID after first production at CP2, Reuters reported.

Hyundai Steel’s $5.8 billion mill in Ascension Parish was nearing groundbreaking in September, ConstructConnect reported; the post lists it as under construction. Amazon’s $18 billion is described by LED as planned investment; the post also lists it as under construction.

Where the Figures Differ

Commonwealth LNG is listed at $10 billion in the post; gCaptain put it at roughly $13 billion when Caturus took FID on 15 May 2026. The Louisiana International Terminal is $3 billion in the post and $1.8 billion in the WAFB report on its federal permit in August.

Lake Charles Methanol II is $4 billion in the post and $3.24 billion in its LED announcement. Several other lines are rounded: Woodside $18 billion versus $17.5 billion, Applied Digital $4 billion versus $3.6 billion and Ascension Clean Energy $8 billion versus a projected $7.5 billion.

Three lines worth $41 billion in the post are not in our total: the $13 billion Entergy buildout for Meta, $18 billion for Argent LNG and $10 billion for a Cameron LNG expansion. In the sources we read, we did not find a matching dollar figure from the company or a regulator.

Who pays for the grid that big new loads such as AI data centres need: a Business Pill explainer.

Connecting the Coverage

Hyperion is the anchor of the AI side. We covered Meta’s $50 billion Hyperion expansion, the $27.3 billion Hyperion bond and how much cash Meta got back from the venture, as well as how Google and Meta back data-centre partners.

Power is the shared input for both halves of the list. Morgan Stanley puts the net US data-centre power gap at 43 GW, OpenAI has pledged power cuts in Georgia, and voters face 41 data-centre measures on Tuesday.

The Structural Read

As we read the list, two different kinds of money sit side by side: AI data centres worth $81.6 billion, most of it already being built, and a SpaceX line of $100 billion that is the largest single item and is not due to start construction until 2027, per the Louisiana Illuminator.

As we read it, the energy and industrial half is mostly LNG, where four terminals account for $63.6 billion of the $92.44 billion, by our arithmetic; three of the four have an FID in the sources, and Plaquemines’ expansion is waiting on one.

Three Implications

FOR READERS OF THE VIRAL NUMBER The post’s 19 lines sum to $315 billion; the 16 we could source total $274.04 billion, and $41 billion sits in three lines we could not match to a company or regulator figure, by our arithmetic.

FOR AI INFRASTRUCTURE Meta Hyperion, Hut 8 and Applied Digital, $63.6 billion together, have construction or site work under way, according to Quartz and LED; Amazon’s $18 billion is described by LED as planned investment.

FOR THE ENERGY SIDE Woodside, CP2 Phase 1 and Commonwealth LNG have FIDs in the sources, while Venture Global expects the $18 billion Plaquemines expansion FID after first production at CP2, Reuters reported.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The State of AI Data Centers.

The framework reads: “The structural bottleneck isn’t computing, it’s electrons.”

As we read it, the Louisiana list puts the two sides of that bottleneck in one state: $81.6 billion of AI data centres and $92.44 billion of energy and industrial projects, most of it gas export capacity. The framework is the owner’s argument and does not discuss this post.

What Is Not Established

The totals are announced or financed project values, not money spent to date, and they mix capex estimates with one project financing figure (CP2). Meta’s figure is a floor, more than $50 billion. We did not find a published FID for Plaquemines’ expansion, Ascension Clean Energy, Lake Charles Methanol II or DG Fuels’ $3.1 billion fuel complex in the sources we read, so they are counted as planned.

The Bottom Line

Checked line by line, the Louisiana list in the viral post comes to $274.04 billion across 16 projects: $81.6 billion in AI data centres, $100 billion for SpaceX and $92.44 billion in energy and industry. Of that, $113.2 billion has an FID or construction under way, by our arithmetic.
