Expedia Group’s consumer segment, B2C, added $182 million of revenue in the third quarter of 2026 while its direct selling and marketing spend fell $4 million, to $1,028 million, by our arithmetic from the segment table in its results release filed on 4 November. B2C revenue rose 6% to $3,065 million.
B2C adjusted EBITDA rose $157 million to $1,331 million. That means about 86% of the added consumer revenue reached the segment’s adjusted EBITDA, by our arithmetic. The B2C adjusted EBITDA margin rose 273 basis points to 43.5%.
Business Pill · Agentic Commerce
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on agentic commerce: what changes when the shopper is an AI agent. It explains the general idea only and does not discuss Expedia.
The key insight: Expedia’s consumer brands added $182 million of revenue in the third quarter on $4 million less direct marketing, and about 86% of that revenue reached B2C adjusted EBITDA, by our arithmetic; B2B added $316 million but raised direct marketing by $193 million.
Two Segments, Two Cost Curves
The B2B segment, which sells Expedia’s supply and technology to airlines, travel agents, online retailers, financial institutions and other companies, grew faster. B2B revenue rose 23% to $1,708 million, an extra $316 million, about 60% of the group’s $526 million revenue increase, by our arithmetic. B2B gross bookings rose 19% to $11,146 million.
B2B’s direct selling and marketing rose $193 million, or 23%, to $1,048 million. B2B adjusted EBITDA rose $68 million to $470 million, about 22% of the added B2B revenue, by our arithmetic, and the B2B adjusted EBITDA margin fell 134 basis points to 27.5%.

Wall St Engine’s earnings card for Expedia’s third quarter of 2026, posted on 4 November. It lists revenue of $4.94 billion against a $4.74 billion estimate and a fourth-quarter adjusted EBITDA guide of $830 million to $880 million against a $918 million estimate. The piece checks each company figure against Expedia’s filed release.
What Expedia Says About AI
In the release, chief executive Ariane Gorin said: “AI is opening further opportunities across our business, enhancing internal productivity and creating new sources of growth.” She also said the company continues to “advance our strategy to build the one-stop travel platform for B2B partners”.
Three months earlier, in the second-quarter release, Gorin described AI differently: “leveraging AI as a force multiplier to innovate faster and operate more efficiently”. The Q3 wording adds growth to productivity.
Both releases list among the risks to results “intense competition from online travel agencies, suppliers, search engines, B2B businesses offering competing travel technology solutions and services, and emerging AI-powered platforms”.
Cash, Buybacks and Guidance
Free cash flow, which Expedia defines as operating cash flow less capital expenditures, was negative $1,399 million in the quarter, against negative $686 million a year earlier. Over nine months, operating cash flow was $4,252 million, against $3,576 million. Expedia repurchased about 2 million shares for $576 million in the quarter.
Expedia raised its full-year guidance to gross bookings of $131.4 billion to $131.9 billion, about 10% growth, and revenue of $16.37 billion to $16.43 billion, 11% to 12%. For the fourth quarter it guides adjusted EBITDA of $830 million to $880 million; the consensus estimate cited by Wall St Engine was $918 million.

The Structural Read
As we read the segment table, the group’s margin gain came from the consumer side, where marketing held flat, while the faster-growing partner side bought its growth with marketing that rose as fast as its revenue.
As we read the chief executive’s two quotes, AI moved in one quarter from a tool to work faster to a source of new growth; the release gives no figure for either.
Ariane Gorin, Expedia Group Q3 2026 release, 4 November 2026

The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Supercycle.
The framework says: “E-commerce, social, fintech, digital marketing, software-as-a-service all get amplified rather than replaced.”
As we read it, Expedia’s release frames AI the same way, as opening opportunities across an existing travel marketplace, while its risk list names emerging AI-powered platforms as competitors. The framework does not discuss Expedia.

What Is Not Established
The release gives segment figures, not reasons for the flat B2C marketing line, and it puts no number on AI’s contribution to revenue or productivity. Expedia’s 10-Q for the quarter was not on EDGAR when we checked, so its risk-factor section is not reviewed here. The consensus figure is as cited by Wall St Engine.
The Bottom Line
Expedia’s consumer brands added $182 million of revenue on $4 million less direct marketing, and about 86% of that revenue reached segment adjusted EBITDA, by our arithmetic. Its partner business grew faster but spent more to do it. In the same release, the chief executive now describes AI as creating new sources of growth.
