ASMPT, the Hong Kong-listed maker of chip packaging and assembly equipment, booked a record HK$8.85 billion (US$1.13 billion) of new orders in the third quarter of 2026, up 137.9% from a year earlier, its 28 October results release says.
Revenue was HK$5.25 billion, so the quarter’s bookings ran about HK$3.6 billion ahead of sales, by our arithmetic. ASMPT puts its book-to-bill ratio at 1.69, the “highest since Q1 2021”.
Short explainer · ASMPT orders hit a record HK$8.85B

Business Pill · Lead Time
A short explainer on lead time: why the wait is part of the price. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about any company in this piece.
The key insight: As we read the release, the AI build-out is now booking packaging capacity well ahead of delivery: ASMPT took HK$3.6 billion more in orders than it recognised in revenue in one quarter, by our arithmetic, and says advanced-packaging lead times are getting longer.
What the Release Says
ASMPT lists “Record Group bookings, driven by TCB, SMT products, and Photonics” and “Record TCB C2S orders fuelled by strong demand from AI data centres”. TCB is thermo-compression bonding, a way of attaching chips in advanced packages; C2S means chip-to-substrate.
SEMI bookings, the chip-equipment segment, rose 31.3% from the second quarter and 156.3% from a year earlier. SMT bookings, for circuit-board assembly, hit a record for the third quarter running, helped by “more than US$100 million worth of bulk orders and pull-in”.
Adjusted gross margin was 42.9%. Adjusted net profit rose 486.3% from a year earlier to HK$689.7 million.

Where the Orders Came From
The release says C2S orders “reached a record high, led by strong demand for larger compound-die TCB tools from OSAT partners of a leading advanced logic customer”. It does not name the customer. OSATs are the outside firms that assemble and test chips.
ASMPT also cites “repeat Chip-to-Wafer orders from a leading global integrated device manufacturer for advanced CPUs”, and record Photonics bookings and revenue driven by “production ramps of 800G, 1.6T and next-generation optical modules”.
Orders Are Running Ahead of Deliveries
Bookings as first reported each quarter rose from HK$3.62 billion in the third quarter of 2025 to HK$4.25 billion, HK$5.67 billion, HK$7.08 billion and now HK$8.85 billion. Revenue rose more slowly, from HK$3.66 billion to HK$5.25 billion over the same span.
For the fourth quarter ASMPT guides revenue to US$670 million to US$730 million. It says “SEMI revenue is expected to be flat due to longer lead times of AP products”, AP being advanced packaging. Third-quarter bookings of US$1.13 billion were about 1.6 times the US$700 million mid-point, by our arithmetic.
The Business Lever: Packaging Tools Paid For Ahead of Delivery
Customers placed orders for packaging tools faster than ASMPT could recognise them as revenue, and the company says advanced-packaging lead times are getting longer. As we read the release, money for this part of the AI build-out is being committed well before the equipment ships. Our earlier coverage on the packaging bottleneck and SK hynix’s supply contracts tracks the same squeeze from the memory side.
The Structural Read
As we read the release, the orders are concentrated where AI chips are assembled: ASMPT names record chip-to-substrate TCB orders from OSAT partners of a leading advanced logic customer, which it does not name.
As we read the as-first-reported series, bookings rose about 2.4 times in four quarters, by our arithmetic, while revenue rose far less, so the gap between orders and deliveries widened each quarter after Q4 2025.
As we read the guidance, the constraint is time rather than demand: ASMPT says SEMI revenue will be flat next quarter because of longer lead times of advanced-packaging products.

Three Implications
FOR AI CHIP BUYERS ASMPT says advanced-packaging lead times are longer, and its book-to-bill ratio of 1.69 is the highest since Q1 2021, per the release.
FOR ASMPT The release guides fourth-quarter revenue to US$670 million to US$730 million and expects fourth-quarter bookings below the third quarter’s record because of SMT one-offs and pull-ins.
FOR THE MEMORY SQUEEZE Our earlier coverage tracks SK hynix’s multi-year supply contracts; ASMPT’s release describes the same pull on the packaging tools that assemble AI chips.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map.
The framework frames its subject as “How the money flows, where it cracks, what it buys, who can absorb it, and what happens when revenue can’t catch up.”
As we read it, ASMPT’s quarter shows one place the money is flowing: into packaging tools ordered faster than they can be delivered. The framework is the owner’s argument and does not discuss ASMPT.

What Is Not Established
The release does not name the leading advanced logic customer, give the TCB share of bookings or disclose backlog in dollars. ASMPT expects fourth-quarter bookings to be below the third quarter’s record because of SMT one-offs and pull-ins. Earlier quarters were later restated for continuing operations after the June 2026 disposal of NEXX, so the release’s growth rates differ slightly from the as-first-reported series above.
The Bottom Line
ASMPT booked a record HK$8.85 billion of orders in the third quarter, 1.69 times its revenue, led by thermo-compression bonding tools for AI chips, and it says advanced-packaging lead times are lengthening.
