Axios tallied roughly $235 billion of AI dealmaking in a single day on 26 October 2026: Anthropic’s IPO, which Axios says may seek a record $100 billion, SpaceX’s $40 billion of GPU lease financing, and up to $95 billion of financing Meta said it would seek for its AI buildout.
The three amounts are at different stages. By our arithmetic from the companies’ own filings, $77.5 billion of the $235 billion was priced or signed by 27 October: SpaceX’s $40 billion binding commitment and Meta’s $37.5 billion of priced stock offerings. The other $157.5 billion is a target or unused capacity.
Video explainer · AI dealmaking
A 16:9 video explainer narrated from the published headlines of this piece and five related FourWeekMBA pieces.
The key insight: As we read it, the $235 billion is a count of announced amounts: by our arithmetic $77.5 billion of it was signed or priced by 27 October, and the largest single part, Anthropic’s possible $100 billion IPO, has no size or price set yet.
What Axios Counted
Axios’s Dan Primack wrote that Anthropic filed for “what could be the biggest IPO ever, capping a massive day of AI dealmaking that nearly equals 1% of U.S. GDP.”
He listed three deals: Anthropic’s IPO “may seek to raise a record $100 billion”, SpaceX secured $40 billion in debt financing to lease GPUs, and Meta said it would seek up to $95 billion in financing for its AI buildout. “Together, that’s roughly $235 billion in a single day,” Axios wrote.

What Is Signed and What Is a Target
SpaceX: its Form 8-K says that on 24 October it entered into a binding commitment letter for a master finance lease with an entity managed by Apollo Global Management. SpaceX expects principal payments under the lease schedules to total approximately $40 billion. The 8-K says the lease is subject to closing conditions and is expected to close before year end, with lease schedules starting in the first half of 2027 as GPUs are delivered.
Meta: its 26 October pricing release says it priced $25.0 billion of Class A common stock at $625.00 a share, upsized from $22.5 billion, and 250,000,000 depositary shares at $50 each, with net proceeds of approximately $12.5 billion from the depositary shares. Both offerings are expected to close on 29 October. The common stock is sold through forward sale agreements, and Meta says it does not expect to initially receive any proceeds from that sale.
Anthropic: the IPO size is not set. Axios says the offering may seek $100 billion; as we reported earlier, the S-1 cover leaves the number of shares and the price range blank.
Our arithmetic: $40 billion (SpaceX) plus $37.5 billion (Meta’s two priced offerings) is $77.5 billion. The remaining $157.5 billion of Axios’s total is Anthropic’s possible $100 billion and $57.5 billion of the up to $95 billion Meta said it would seek but has not yet offered. These are different instruments, a lease, equity and preferred stock, so the sum is a count of announced amounts, not of cash received.
What Axios Left Out
The same day, we reported that a $63B SPV will buy Broadcom chips and lease them to Anthropic. Axios’s $235 billion does not include it, and we do not add it to Axios’s total here.
Axios also says Anthropic has committed roughly $750 billion to computing power in the coming years. The S-1 notes we read give two separate figures at 30 June 2026: $265.6 billion of purchase commitments and $321.4 billion of leases not yet started, as we reported when Anthropic’s unstarted compute leases hit $321B, up from $50B. Axios does not say how it reached its figure.
Update, 27 Oct: one bank on all three deals. Bloomberg put the same day’s deals at $210 billion for Goldman Sachs, saying the three AI financings “had one name in common”. Per Bloomberg, Goldman co-led Meta’s $95 billion share offering, was the sole structuring agent on the $40 billion SpaceX chip financing, and was named lead-left bookrunner on Anthropic’s IPO.
The part of the article we could read does not break down how Bloomberg reached $210 billion. It is a count of deals one bank worked on, a different measure from Axios’s $235 billion and from the $77.5 billion we count as signed or priced, so we do not add or net the figures.
Connecting the Coverage
Each deal in Axios’s tally has its own piece. On 26 October we reported that SpaceX’s $40B GPU deal is a 5-year Apollo finance lease, and on 27 October added that Pimco bought $4 billion of it, per Bloomberg.
On 26 October we reported that Meta launched a $35B stock sale and plans a $60B ATM, and on 27 October that Nvidia will invest $3B in Meta’s stock as Meta adds Rubin.
For Anthropic, we reported that its IPO runs public offers in Australia and 5 more, and that Anthropic’s net cash is $23B with its notes, $132B without. Beyond the three deals, US investment-grade bonds top 2020’s record as AI borrows, and Naver guarantees 18.7T won for a $9B AI factory with Nvidia. What’s new here: the split between signed money and targets inside Axios’s $235 billion.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the three deals use three different instruments: SpaceX’s is a finance lease with an Apollo-managed entity, Meta’s are common stock sold through forward sale agreements and mandatory convertible preferred, and Anthropic’s is a public share offering.
As we read it, signed is not the same as paid: SpaceX’s 8-K says the lease is expected to close before year end and payments run over five to five and a quarter years, and Meta says it does not expect to initially receive any proceeds from its common stock sale.
As we read it, Axios’s tally leaves out the $63 billion SPV for Broadcom chips leased to Anthropic, which we reported the same day; adding it would mix a separate vehicle that buys Broadcom chips and leases them to Anthropic with the three companies’ own raises, so we keep it separate.

Three Implications
FOR READERS OF THE HEADLINE NUMBER Of Axios’s roughly $235 billion, $77.5 billion was signed or priced by 27 October by our arithmetic; the rest is Anthropic’s possible IPO size and Meta’s unused capacity.
FOR META SHAREHOLDERS Meta’s pricing release says the $25.0 billion common stock offering is sold through forward sale agreements, and Meta does not expect to initially receive any proceeds from it.
FOR ANTHROPIC’S IPO Axios says the offering may seek $100 billion; as we reported, the S-1 cover leaves the number of shares and the price range blank.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The AI Capex Map.
The framework argues that the capex race “is no longer a corporate spending cycle” but “a sovereign-scale financing problem dressed in tech-company clothing”.
As we read it, Axios’s single day of lease commitments, priced stock and an IPO filing is one snapshot of that financing. The framework was not written about these deals.
What Is Not Established
Anthropic’s IPO size and price are not set, and the $100 billion is a figure Axios gives for what the offering may seek. SpaceX’s lease has not closed and its rate is set at pricing. Meta has not yet offered the rest of the up to $95 billion. None of the three deals is complete as of 27 October.
The Bottom Line
Of the roughly $235 billion Axios counted on 26 October, SpaceX’s $40 billion lease commitment and Meta’s $37.5 billion of priced offerings are signed, $77.5 billion by our arithmetic; Anthropic’s possible $100 billion IPO and the rest of Meta’s plan are still targets.

A note on sourcing. The $235 billion tally and its three parts are from Axios (Dan Primack, 27 October 2026). SpaceX’s terms are from its Form 8-K for 24 October 2026; Meta’s are from its 26 October 2026 pricing release. The split into signed or priced amounts and targets is our arithmetic. Earlier reports are as covered in our pieces linked above. This is not investment advice.
