That is about ₹1,896 crore, or roughly $201.9 million at the ECB’s 6 November reference rate, by our arithmetic.
The Press Trust of India, citing the same BSE data, reported that the sale was 1.56% of Lenskart and cut SoftBank’s stake to 5.71% from 7.27% (PTI via ETV Bharat).
Business Pill · Financial Conditions
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on financial conditions. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss SoftBank or Lenskart.
The key insight: SoftBank’s SVF II Lightbulb (Cayman) Limited sold 27,200,000 Lenskart shares at Rs 697.15 in 10 BSE block trades on 6 November, and 20 entities bought them at the same price, led by two Goldman Sachs entities and Societe Generale ODI, according to the BSE’s block-deal report.
Who Bought
The BSE report lists 21 buy trades by 20 entities, all at ₹697.15, matching the 27,200,000 shares sold. The largest single buyer was Societe Generale ODI with 8,944,000 shares. Two Goldman Sachs entities, Goldman Sachs Bank Europe SE (4,744,000) and Goldman Sachs Investments Mauritius I Limited (4,440,000), bought 9,184,000 shares between them, the most of any group, by our count.
Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund bought 4,743,000 shares. Smaller buyers included BNP Paribas Financial Markets (813,000), Norges Bank on account of the Government Pension Fund Global (542,000), UTI Mutual Fund (359,000), HDFC Standard Life Insurance (359,000) and several William Blair funds (1,110,666 combined, by our count). US public pension buyers, including the Florida Retirement System, Texas Municipal Retirement System, the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund and Chicago’s Public School Teachers’ Pension and Retirement Fund, took 786,334 shares together, by our count.
PTI’s report named Goldman Sachs as the largest buyer, with 91.84 lakh shares worth over ₹640 crore, which matches the two Goldman entities combined. ETV Bharat’s headline on the same PTI report named Societe Generale as the biggest buyer; Societe Generale ODI was the largest single account in the BSE data.

Our Numbers
27,200,000 shares at ₹697.15 is ₹1,896.25 crore; at 93.92 rupees per dollar it is about $201.9 million, by our arithmetic. Reuters reported in October 2025 that Lenskart set an IPO price band of ₹382 to ₹402 (Reuters); the block price is 73.4% above the top of that band, by our arithmetic. If the 1.56% figure is correct, 5.71% is about 99.6 million shares, by our arithmetic.
PTI reported that Lenskart shares rose 1% to close at ₹724.70 on the BSE on 6 November, 4% above the block price, by our arithmetic. PTI also reported that SoftBank sold 3.25% of Lenskart for ₹2,873 crore in June, which would put this year’s two reported sales at ₹4,769 crore, by our arithmetic.
Connecting the Coverage
The sale came the same week Elon Musk accused SoftBank of defaulting on turbine orders as its bonds slid (our piece), and as SoftBank and ABB were reported to be weighing a China carve-out of their robotics deal (our piece). SoftBank has not said why it sold the Lenskart shares, and we draw no link between the sale and those events.
The Structural Read
As we read the BSE data, the sale was placed with a mix of foreign banks, Indian mutual funds and US public pensions rather than a single strategic buyer: 20 entities took the 27.2 million shares at one price.
As we read the price, the block cleared about 4% below Lenskart’s 6 November close of Rs 724.70 reported by PTI, by our arithmetic, and 73.4% above the top of the IPO price band Reuters reported.
As we read the two reported sales this year, SoftBank has now sold about 4.8 percentage points of Lenskart, 3.25 in June and 1.56 now, per PTI, by our arithmetic.
PTI, 7 November 2026
“After the transaction, SoftBank’s stake in Gurugram-based Lenskart fell to 5.71 per cent from 7.27 per cent.”
Three Implications
FOR SOFTBANK PTI puts SoftBank’s remaining Lenskart stake at 5.71%; SoftBank has not said why it sold.
FOR LENSKART PTI reported the shares rose 1% to close at Rs 724.70 on the BSE on the day of the block trades.
FOR THE BUYERS The BSE report shows the 27.2 million shares went to 20 entities at Rs 697.15 each, with Societe Generale ODI the largest single account.

What Is Not Established
The BSE report does not give the stake percentages; the 1.56% and 5.71% figures are PTI’s. SoftBank has not commented on the sale in anything we read. The dollar figure uses the ECB reference rate, not the Reserve Bank of India’s. The IPO comparison uses the top of the reported price band.
The Bottom Line
SoftBank’s SVF II Lightbulb sold 27.2 million Lenskart shares at ₹697.15 in BSE block trades on 6 November, about ₹1,896 crore or $201.9 million by our arithmetic, and 20 buyers took them, led by Goldman Sachs entities and Societe Generale. PTI puts SoftBank’s remaining stake at 5.71%.

A note on sourcing. Trade data are from the BSE’s 6 November 2026 block-deal report. Stake percentages, the closing price and the June sale are from PTI’s report; the IPO price band is from Reuters.
