Meta’s advertising revenue rose 26% in the third quarter of 2026 and Snap’s rose 4%, and both companies say AI is part of how they sell ads. Meta’s results release says: “Our AI investments are already delivering substantial incremental advertising revenue through stronger engagement, better recommendations, and more efficient monetization”.
Snap’s chief commercial officer, Ronan Harris, told analysts its AI ad tools “have already contributed to an over 2.5% increase in pixel purchase conversions”. Its chief executive, Evan Spiegel, said Snap worked to “remove AI-generated content or reposted content” from Spotlight, where posters rose 130%.
Business Pill · Distribution Advantage
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on distribution advantage. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Snap or any company named here.
The key insight: As we read it, ad platforms describe AI doing three jobs, ranking content, matching ads to buyers and running support, while their third-quarter ad growth ran from 4% at Snap to 26% at Meta and 54% at Reddit; Snap also removed AI-generated content from Spotlight, where posters rose 130%.
Three Jobs AI Does in an Ad Business
The releases and Snap’s call describe three jobs. The first is ranking what people see. Meta names “better recommendations”, and Snap’s letter says it invests in “AI-powered recommendations to help Snapchatters discover content they enjoy”.
The second is matching ads to buyers. Harris named “Dynamic Product Ads, generative retrieval, and agentic recommendations”, which he said “help connect products in an advertiser’s catalog with a Snapchatter’s interests and activity”. The third is running the business: Spiegel said “AI search now resolves over 92% of Help Center sessions, while support cases declined 35% year over year”.

The Growth Table
The third-quarter releases give the spread. Reddit’s ad revenue rose 54% to $847 million. Meta’s advertising revenue rose to $63,061 million from $50,082 million, which is $12,979 million added, by our arithmetic. Alphabet’s YouTube ads rose to $11,207 million from $10,261 million, about 9.2%, by our arithmetic. Pinterest reported total revenue of $1,174 million, up 12%.
Snap’s advertising revenue grew 4%, a rate Spiegel called “below our ambitions”. By our arithmetic of 4 November, that is about $56 million added, against about $297 million at Reddit. The full comparison is in Snap’s Ad Revenue Grew 4%, Meta’s 26%, Reddit’s 54% in Q3.
What Each Platform Credits to AI
Pinterest’s chief executive, Bill Ready, said in its release: “Our differentiated AI-driven visual search and shopping experiences are making Pinterest increasingly valuable for users and advertisers alike”. Alphabet’s release says: “Our AI investments are driving overall Search query growth, including commercial queries”.
Snap’s finance chief, Doug Hott, said Snap has been able to “increase our investments in AI and ML without increasing our overall infrastructure costs”. Spiegel also said “the upper-funnel brand advertising did decline year over year and that weighed on the overall”, while direct response grew.
The Content Side: Removing AI-Made Posts
Snap used AI on the ad side and limited it on the content side. Spiegel said: “earlier this year we really worked hard to remove AI-generated content or reposted content from the service”. He said that led to “a really meaningful growth in the number of Spotlight posters”, and Snap reported posters up 130% and daily active viewers up 40% year over year. The details are in Snapchat Removed AI-Made Spotlight Posts; Posters Up 130%.
As we read the call, Snap treats real posts as ad inventory: Spiegel said the growth in posters “has really helped increase inventory overall for Spotlight”. The first piece in this chain, on how much of Snap’s $216 million revenue gain came from ads, is Ads Made About a Quarter of Snap’s $216M Revenue Gain in Q3.
The Business Lever
The lever is the conversion rate. AI ranking and product matching aim to turn the same audience into more purchases, which is what Harris’s 2.5% figure measures. Content policy works on the other input, the supply of posts that ads run next to.
What to Watch
Each platform’s quarterly release and call carry the signals: advertising revenue growth, the AI tools named, and any conversion or engagement figure tied to them. Snap’s third-quarter 10-Q, when filed, adds the risk factors and the revenue split.
Connecting the Coverage
This analysis draws on one news chain:
- Ads Made About a Quarter of Snap’s $216M Revenue Gain in Q3: the third-quarter results.
- Snap’s Ad Revenue Grew 4%, Meta’s 26%, Reddit’s 54% in Q3: the peer table.
- Snapchat Removed AI-Made Spotlight Posts; Posters Up 130%: the content decision.
The Structural Read
As we read the releases, Meta and Pinterest describe AI as a driver of the ad business itself: better recommendations at Meta, visual search and shopping at Pinterest.
As we read Harris’s remarks, Snap measures its AI ad tools by conversions: an over 2.5% increase in pixel purchase conversions ahead of the holiday season.
As we read Spiegel’s answer, Snap draws a line between AI in its ad systems and AI-made posts in its content: it kept the first and removed the second from Spotlight.

“earlier this year we really worked hard to remove AI-generated content or reposted content from the service and really focused on our community and the things that they were creating”
Three Implications
FOR META Its advertising revenue rose to $63,061 million from $50,082 million, $12,979 million added, by our arithmetic.
FOR SNAP Its advertising revenue grew 4%, and Spiegel said upper-funnel brand advertising declined year over year.
FOR COMPARISONS The table mixes ad revenue and, for Pinterest, total revenue, so it compares speed of growth, not scale.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Four Intelligence Moats.
The framework says: “Each moat is built by a different data pipeline.”
As we read it, an ad platform runs two pipelines at once: what people post, and how ads are matched to buyers. Snap’s call describes AI added to the second and removed from the first. The framework does not discuss Snap, Meta, Reddit, Pinterest or Alphabet.
What Is Not Established
The AI statements are the companies’ own descriptions; the releases do not measure how much of each quarter’s growth came from AI tools. Pinterest’s 12% is total revenue, not advertising revenue, and Snap’s $56 million is our approximate arithmetic from its disclosures.
The growth rates measure different businesses at different sizes, so the table compares speed, not scale. We make no forecast on any company’s advertising revenue.
The Bottom Line
In the third quarter, Meta’s advertising revenue rose 26%, Reddit’s 54% and Snap’s 4%, and Meta, Pinterest and Snap credit AI with better recommendations, search or ad matching. Snap also removed AI-generated content from Spotlight, and its posters rose 130%.
