Freshworks added $30.3 million of revenue in a year and $28.0 million of non-GAAP operating income, by our arithmetic from its third-quarter earnings release. That means 92% of the new revenue showed up as non-GAAP operating profit.
Revenue rose 14% to $245.4 million. Non-GAAP operating income rose to $73.2 million from $45.2 million, and the non-GAAP operating margin to 29.8% from 21.0%. Adjusted free cash flow rose 29% to $73.9 million.
On a GAAP basis, Freshworks reported operating income of $28.2 million, against an operating loss of $7.5 million a year earlier.
Business Pill · Operating Leverage
An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on operating leverage. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Freshworks.
The key insight: By our arithmetic, Freshworks added $30.3 million of revenue and $28.0 million of non-GAAP operating income in a year, so 92% of the new revenue showed up as non-GAAP operating profit.
Where the Margin Came From
The release gives the result, not a single cause. Dennis Woodside, the chief executive, said: “We delivered a 30% non-GAAP operating margin and grew adjusted free cash flow by 29%”. He tied the quarter to the company’s push into larger customers.
Customers contributing more than $100,000 of annual recurring revenue rose 25% to 1,821. Net dollar retention was 104%, against 105% a year earlier. All 2026 figures include FireHydrant, which Freshworks acquired in January 2026.
Following the close of the quarter, Freshworks says it passed $1 billion of annual recurring revenue, “ahead of our previously-given estimate of year end”.

Wall St Engine, an account that posts earnings figures on X, published this Freshworks card at 21:12 UTC. Its revenue, non-GAAP operating income, adjusted free cash flow and guidance figures match Freshworks’ release; the estimates it lists, including $60.1M for non-GAAP operating income, are its own citation, which we have not verified. This piece is built from Freshworks’ filings, not from this post.
Fewer Shares, Higher Earnings per Share
Non-GAAP earnings per share rose to $0.22 from $0.16. The share count behind it fell to 266.4 million from 288.3 million, 7.6% fewer, by our arithmetic.
Freshworks’ 10-Q says it repurchased 26,780,535 shares in the first nine months of 2026 for $231.7 million, an average of $8.65 a share, under a $400 million program its board approved in February 2026.
What the Guide Implies
Freshworks guides fourth-quarter revenue of $253.5 million to $254.5 million and non-GAAP operating income of $68.0 million to $70.0 million. At the midpoints, that is about $4.2 million less operating income than in the third quarter, on about $8.6 million more revenue, a margin of about 27%, by our arithmetic.
For 2026, it guides revenue of $965.0 million to $966.0 million and non-GAAP operating income of $238.0 million to $240.0 million. Wall St Engine, an account that posts earnings figures on X, listed a consensus estimate of $60.1 million for third-quarter non-GAAP operating income; we have not verified its estimates.
What Freshworks Says About AI
Freshworks describes itself in the release as an AI-powered service operations platform. Its 10-Q lists “Freddy AI Agent, Freddy AI Copilot and Freddy AI Insights” among its offerings. The release gives no AI revenue or AI ARR figure.
How Each Side Reads These Figures
For readers who see operating leverage, the figures include 92 cents of non-GAAP operating income for each added revenue dollar, a margin up nearly nine points, and adjusted free cash flow up 29%.
For readers who see caution, the figures include net dollar retention down a point, a fourth-quarter guide with lower operating income than the third, and earnings per share helped by a 7.6% smaller share count. We cite no analysts’ views here.
Connecting the Coverage
In October we covered Freshworks’ deal to buy Torii, which tracks AI use down to the token. Our profile asks whether Freshworks is safe from AI, part of a set of 30 SaaS company AI risk profiles.
What the Risk Factors Say
The 10-Q says: “There have been no material changes from the risks and uncertainties previously disclosed under the” risk factors in its 2025 annual report.
The Structural Read
As we read it, the quarter is an operating-leverage result rather than a growth result: revenue grew 14%, while non-GAAP operating income grew by almost as many dollars as revenue did.
As we read it, the per-share figure has a second driver: the share count fell 7.6%, after Freshworks bought back 26.8 million shares in nine months.
As we read it, the fourth-quarter guide is the check on the trend: it implies a non-GAAP margin of about 27%, below the third quarter’s 29.8%, by our arithmetic.

“Our upmarket strategy delivered another strong quarter.”
Three Implications
FOR INVESTORS TRACKING FRESHWORKS Non-GAAP operating income was $73.2 million, a 29.8% margin, and adjusted free cash flow $73.9 million; the fourth-quarter guide is $68.0 million to $70.0 million of non-GAAP operating income.
FOR BUYERS OF SERVICE SOFTWARE Customers paying more than $100,000 a year rose 25% to 1,821, and the 10-Q lists Freddy AI Agent, Freddy AI Copilot and Freddy AI Insights among its offerings.
FOR READERS FOLLOWING SAAS MARGINS The 92% is a non-GAAP measure; on a GAAP basis, operating income moved to $28.2 million from a $7.5 million loss.
The Business Engineer Lens
This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework AI & The Great SaaS Bifurcation.
The framework puts it this way: “The SaaS market is splitting into two irreconcilable extremes—and the middle is being evacuated.”
As we read it, Freshworks’ upmarket push, with more customers paying over $100,000 and its chief executive citing demand for a unified platform and single data model, is a bid for the embedded end of that split. The framework was published in December 2025 and does not discuss Freshworks’ third quarter.

What Is Not Established
The 92%, the dollar changes, the share-count decline and the fourth-quarter margin are our arithmetic from Freshworks’ release and 10-Q. Non-GAAP operating income excludes items such as stock-based compensation, as Freshworks defines it, so the 92% is not a GAAP measure.
How much of the margin gain came from cost cuts, mix or FireHydrant is not broken out in the release. We had not heard the earnings call, and we did not contact Freshworks.
The Bottom Line
Freshworks turned 92% of its added revenue into non-GAAP operating income, by our arithmetic: $28.0 million out of $30.3 million, as its margin rose to 29.8% and adjusted free cash flow grew 29%.

A note on sourcing. Every company figure comes from Freshworks’ third-quarter 2026 earnings release, filed with the SEC as Exhibit 99.1 to its 8-K of 3 November 2026, and its 10-Q for the quarter, filed the same evening; both were read on EDGAR on 3 November. The estimate is as posted by Wall St Engine on X and is not verified. The 92% ratio, the dollar changes, the share-count decline and the implied fourth-quarter margin are our arithmetic.
