Aptiv Guide Puts About 93% of 2026 Free Cash Flow in Q4

Aptiv generated $44 million of free cash flow in the first nine months of 2026 and guided $625 million to $675 million for the full year, according to its third-quarter release. Its full-year cash flow table is prepared at the $650 million mid-point.

By our arithmetic, that leaves about $606 million for the fourth quarter at the mid-point, or about 93% of the year’s free cash flow, and $581 million to $631 million across the range.

Business Pill ยท Concentration

An evergreen Business Engineer explainer on concentration: when a few big pieces make most of a total. It teaches the general idea only and does not discuss Aptiv.

The key insight: By our arithmetic, Aptiv’s $650 million mid-point free cash flow guide, after $44 million in nine months, needs about $606 million in the fourth quarter alone, about 93% of the year.

Cash Flow by Quarter

Free cash flow was negative $117 million in the first quarter and negative $33 million in the second, then $194 million in the third, the release’s quarterly table shows. Operating cash flow from continuing operations was $320 million in the third quarter, against $126 million of capital expenditures.

Aptiv repurchased 4.7 million shares for $233 million in the quarter, bringing the year-to-date total to $558 million, with $1.6 billion left under its authorization.

Wall St Engine posted its summary of Aptivโ€™s third-quarter results at 11:50 UTC on 3 November, including $3.2 billion of revenue, adjusted EPS of $1.42 and the fourth-quarter guide. Figures in this piece are checked against Aptivโ€™s release.

Where Earnings Moved

Revenue was $3.2 billion ($3,199 million), up 2%, with adjusted revenue growth of 2%. Adjusted EBITDA fell to $567 million from $598 million, a margin of 17.7% against 19.1%. Adjusted EPS was $1.42 against $1.48.

The segment summary shows where. Engineered Components added $125 million of sales and $8 million of adjusted EBITDA. Intelligent Systems lost $40 million of sales and $39 million of adjusted EBITDA, by our arithmetic, and its adjusted EBITDA margin fell to 12.8% from 15.2%.

Chief executive Kevin Clark said: “Strong non-automotive revenue and bookings growth reflects the applicability of our products and capabilities across new and existing end markets”. The release does not give a non-automotive revenue figure.

What Aptiv Guided

Aptiv said it expects fourth-quarter net sales of $3,110 million to $3,210 million, adjusted EBITDA of $582 million to $642 million, a 19.4% margin at the guidance, and adjusted EPS of $1.35 to $1.55. Its full-year adjusted EPS range is $5.60 to $5.80.

The Wall St Engine post put the consensus estimate cited by Wall St Engine at $5.82 for full-year adjusted EPS and $1.62 for the fourth quarter, both above Aptiv’s ranges.

The Structural Read

As we read the quarterly table, Aptiv’s cash year is back-loaded: two negative quarters, one positive, and a fourth quarter that has to carry most of the total.

As we read the segment summary, the third-quarter earnings decline sits in Intelligent Systems, whose adjusted EBITDA fell almost dollar for dollar with its sales.

Three Implications

FOR CASH The guide implies $581 million to $631 million of fourth-quarter free cash flow, by our arithmetic.

FOR MARGINS Aptiv guided a 19.4% fourth-quarter adjusted EBITDA margin, against 17.7% in the third quarter.

FOR THE SEGMENTS Intelligent Systems lost $39 million of adjusted EBITDA on $40 million less sales, by our arithmetic.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Agentic Harness War.

The framework argues: “The engine becomes essential and unglamorous; nobody pays a premium for the engine once the vehicle around it determines the drive.”

As we read it, Aptiv’s quarter is a test of that idea in hardware: the components business grew while the systems business lost margin. The framework is about AI models, is the owner’s argument and does not discuss Aptiv.

What Is Not Established

Free cash flow is a non-GAAP measure adjusted for the EDS spin-off, and the fourth-quarter figure is our arithmetic from guidance, not a number Aptiv gave. The release does not explain the Intelligent Systems decline or the expected step-up in fourth-quarter margin.
