Spark’s $75M Anthropic Stake Said to Be Worth $7B Pre-IPO

Spark Capital invested $75 million in Anthropic in 2023, and its stake is now worth $7 billion at the company’s current valuation, Bloomberg reported on 22 October 2026, citing one person. That is about 93 times the money put in, by our arithmetic. Bloomberg reported that Iconiq, which has put more than $6 billion into Anthropic, owns a stake worth approximately $17 billion based on the most recent $965 billion private market valuation, “according to people familiar with the matter.”

Bloomberg reported that Anthropic is expected to publicly file IPO paperwork in the coming days. As we read it, the report shows how much the size of a gain depends on when an investor came in: Spark’s 2023 check against Sequoia’s first check at the start of 2026.

Business Pill · CONCENTRATION

A short explainer on concentration: when a few big pieces make up most of a total. It teaches the general idea only and says nothing about any company in this piece.

The key insight: As we read it, the new element is the spread by entry date: Spark’s $75 million from 2023 is said to be worth $7 billion, about 93 times by our arithmetic, while Sequoia’s $3 billion from the start of 2026 has given it a roughly 1% stake, Bloomberg reported.

What Bloomberg Reported

Bloomberg wrote that Iconiq made its first investment in Anthropic in 2025, when the company was valued at $183 billion. It described the Anthropic deal as “the largest deal in its history” for Iconiq, and reported that the value of the investment could double if Anthropic goes public at a valuation as high as $2 trillion, as some expect.

Spark Capital is “the only venture firm known to have a board director seat at the startup,” Bloomberg wrote. It reported that the $75 million was Spark’s largest check ever. Sound Ventures, the firm started by Guy Oseary and Ashton Kutcher, invested $35 million in the same round at a $5 billion valuation and has since invested $400 million across later financings, leading to a stake worth billions of dollars, a person told Bloomberg.

Sequoia Capital cut its first check to Anthropic at the start of this year, Bloomberg reported, and the $3 billion it has put in has given it a roughly 1% stake. Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC also owns about 1% after investing north of $4.5 billion, starting last year, one person said. Bloomberg reported that Anthropic, Sequoia, Iconiq, Sound and GIC declined to comment, and that Spark did not respond.

All figures are Bloomberg’s, citing people familiar with the matter, at Anthropic’s most recent $965 billion private valuation. The last column is our arithmetic: for GIC and Sequoia, 1% of $965 billion is about $9.65 billion; where Bloomberg gives “more than” or “north of” an amount, the multiple is an upper bound.

  • About 93 times for Spark. $7 billion against $75 million is about 93 times, by our arithmetic.
  • About 3.2 times for Sequoia. Roughly 1% of $965 billion is about $9.65 billion, against $3 billion invested, by our arithmetic.
  • Below about 2.9 times for Iconiq. About $17 billion against more than $6 billion, by our arithmetic; the more Iconiq put in above $6 billion, the lower the multiple.

The Structural Read

As we read it, the late money is priced very differently: Bloomberg’s figures put Sequoia at about 3.2 times what it put in, and Iconiq and GIC below about 2.9 and 2.2 times, by our arithmetic.

As we read it, Bloomberg ties the size of the gains to the IPO price: it reports that Iconiq’s stake could double if Anthropic lists at a valuation as high as $2 trillion, as some expect.

As we read it, the gains also run to Anthropic’s suppliers: Bloomberg reports that Google, Amazon and Nvidia have invested billions in Anthropic and that those deals are set to generate substantial returns for the big tech firms.

Three Implications

FOR EARLY BACKERS Bloomberg reports that Spark’s $75 million is worth $7 billion and that Sound Ventures’ $35 million, plus $400 million in later rounds, has become a stake worth billions of dollars, citing people familiar.

FOR LATE-STAGE FUNDS Iconiq’s more than $6 billion is worth about $17 billion, Bloomberg reported; as we read it, the IPO valuation matters more for these later checks than for a 2023 one.

FOR THE IPO Bloomberg reported that Anthropic is expected to publicly file IPO paperwork in the coming days; the stake values in this piece are at the $965 billion private valuation, not an IPO price.

The Business Engineer Lens

This story maps onto the Business Engineer framework The Nine Layers of AI.

The framework puts it this way: “Every headline, every valuation move, every strategic decision in the cycle lives inside one of these nine boxes.”

As we read it, Anthropic sits in the model layer, and the stake values Bloomberg reports are a valuation move in that layer. The framework was published in May 2026 and does not discuss these investors.

What Is Not Established

All stake values are Bloomberg’s, citing people familiar with the matter; the firms declined to comment or did not respond, and we have not seen the cap table. Values are at the $965 billion private valuation, not a public market price, and the IPO valuation is not set. Bloomberg does not give GIC’s or Sequoia’s stake in dollars, only about 1% and roughly 1%; the $9.65 billion values are our arithmetic, and Bloomberg values Sound Ventures’ stake only as worth billions of dollars.

The multiples ignore fees, timing and any shares sold, and where Bloomberg gives a floor on the money invested, our multiple is an upper bound.

The Bottom Line

Bloomberg reported on 22 October 2026 that Spark Capital’s $75 million 2023 investment in Anthropic is now worth $7 billion, about 93 times, by our arithmetic, and that Iconiq’s more than $6 billion is worth about $17 billion at the $965 billion valuation. Sequoia’s $3 billion has given it a roughly 1% stake, and GIC holds about 1% after investing north of $4.5 billion, Bloomberg reported, ahead of an expected public IPO filing in the coming days.
