Yesterday, I showed you a key structural transition across the software industry by looking at where Salesforce is headed next.

Now, I want to show you what comes next, as one of the most valuable pieces of the software industry as it gets redefined.

For roughly three decades, enterprise technology organized itself around a single structural logic: whoever owned the system of record owned the customer. Salesforce built a revenue base of over $40 billion based on this principle. SAP, Oracle, Workday, ServiceNow — each claimed a domain of truth and charged per seat for the privilege of accessing it. The entire SaaS — as explored in the shift from SaaS to agentic service models — economy rested on a simple chain:

System of record → UI → apps → APIs.
