Which AI Alliances Turn Into Money: The Alliance Map

The answer
In our data, partnerships rarely come with a price. Of 523 company pairs that announced a partnership in our coverage since 2025, 15 (3%, our arithmetic) also have a reported dollar flow. Where alliances do turn into money, three patterns dominate. (1) Labs buying compute: Anthropic's named contracts run from $10B (Volta) to more than $160B (Broadcom, for Google chips), inside a reported total of at least $518B over a decade. (2) Chipmakers financing their own customers: Nvidia appears as investor (OpenAI $30B, CoreWeave $2B), guarantor (up to $105B for the Ohio data centre OpenAI will lease) and capacity backstop (CoreWeave $6.3B). (3) Big Tech and SoftBank funding the labs: SoftBank $64.6B cumulative in OpenAI, Amazon up to $50B. The two-way pairs (Microsoft both sells compute to and buys models from Anthropic) are where an alliance becomes a dependency.
