The B200 GPU costs approximately $6,400 to produce and sells for $30,000-$40,000, implying chip-level gross margins of 75-80%. But this headline figure omits the $10 billion in research and development that made Blackwell possible.

If Nvidia ships 2 million B200 units in 2025 – a plausible estimate given TSMC’s CoWoS capacity constraints – the R&D cost per unit is $5,000. That nearly doubles the effective production cost from $6,400 to $11,400. At higher volumes, this per-unit burden decreases; at lower volumes, it increases substantially.
